    The slowest e-mount lens

The autofocus on this lens does not unleash the speedy and accurate power of my A6000 and A7. It is annoyingly loud, inaccurate and continually seeks too far beyond a sharp focus leaving you waiting for the next pass. The image quality is OK but not great and there is still too much vignetting to be acceptable. Bokeh is adequate but not beautiful in any way. I would never trust this lens for an important shoot because of the inaccuracy. Forget using it for video as well because it is noisy and fails to lock a sharp focus and will often go way beyond before dialing back to your subject. It's just awful.

Super noisy and super slow! If you are on a budget, it's good enough. Best thing I can say about it really.

This is a decent all-around lens. Doesn't do well of creating depth of field, but that is typical for any 50mm. Overall, this would be a great casual vacation lens if space is limited and functional needs are diverse.

The performance isn't up to today's standards. I apply latest updates to the camera to see if it's performance will improve but it didn't. I would love to have a standard 50mm Sony at this price.

Spend the extra $50 for the OSS model

The customer rep accidentally handed me this lens. Noticed it right away after I got home and started using it. The focus is slow and feels cheap. I strongly recommend spending the extra $50 for the OSS model if doing video.

    Fair lens with some problems

Picture quality is not so bad, but the real problems with this lens are (i) focusing speed is too slow and (ii) it's a bit noisy when focusing. So this lens is not good for video capturing.

I asked for a lens that would be good for video recording and vlogging. This is not a good lens for it at all. The lens Zooms in and only good for portraits.

I wondered why it was so cheap compared to every other full frame lens, now I know. The auto focus is terrible, it’s slow, loud and fails 9 times out of 10. I have the same lens for my asp-c camera and it’s great but this one is trash.

This lens did not work on my NEX 7

This lens did not work on my nex 7. It focused ok, but I could not change the aperture. Changing the program changed the aperture to varied, but fixed openings. It seems to be a good lens, but the one I received- from Best Buy was defective. Get this, when I returned it Best Buy still charged a re-stocking fee, plus I paid to ship it back. I am very reluctant to buy from Best Buy.

I didn't end up keeping this lens, not because it disappointed me, only because I opted to spend the extra $50 for the 50mm APS-C lens which has built in OSS

The focus is slow and often misses but it’s ok. You would be better off getting the 35mm or 85mm 1.4

Evidently it was the only lens they could sell me while my defective one went out for repair. I expected it to be closer to what I had to send away. Being on vacation put me in a box and I wad left with no options. I am not pleased.

    Super Light and Good Enough

You can spend hours watching YouTube videos and written reviews comparing this the $900 FE 55 and the $1400 FE 50 1.4. Pro's buy those, and maybe I will as well one day (I do have G-Master lenses so I value the quality.) But all that matters not.....not for $199.00 it does. You should buy this lens because it is so ridiculously LIGHT.....many times lighter than the others. Having this lens on my A7Riii makes it a grab-and-go camera. The other reviews are accurate....it makes noises and occasionally hunts, but, honestly it's the price of a single night out at a restaurant that goes into the toilet the next morning. Buy it because it's light...I mean REALLY light. Yes, it does take very nice pictures.
