Always wanted to get into final fantasy games but this not what I expected. Terrible graphics and story plot.

This is a much more political and violent Final Fantasy than most of the rest of the series. Since it's originally a PSP game, there are some outdated and low res textures here and there but the HD version looks quite nice for the most part. There was a patch to fix some of the motion blur and camera issues, but the camera still isn't perfect to control.

I have been waiting for Type-0 since it was originally a PSP game, but sadly Square dumbly decided not to bring it over here. When they announced Type-0 was coming to the US as a upgraded HD version for PS4, I was in. I was even more on board when they announced the Final Fantasy XV demo would come with it and be available day 1. Type-0 HD has a fantastic combat system, which has flashes of Crisis Core and is a much more simplified version of what is happening in Final Fantasy XV. Setting up the academy and student angle makes this feel very Persona-y, which is a great thing. The music is amazing too.

Its a good game and an easy platinum trophy if you're into that, but the game itself relies on a bit of grinding that can be easily avoided. Thankfully the grinding itself is fairly optional and can as stated is easily avoided by abusing a mechanic introduced fairly early on. Its an ARPG with 14 characters to play as, but realistically you'll use 3 at best and the others will be used when you have little to no choice. The game itself is made well enough so you can play as any of them easily, but one of them, Deuce, is obviously not meant for the player to control as she lacks combat abilities outside of magic, of which she is above par but not the best: She is a support.

My experience with this game is quite mixed. I enjoyed the experience thoroughly but being a Vita owner this game stirs some negative emotions as this game obviously was meant for the Vita. However, despite my feelings I really did love the combat and difficulty and I really enjoyed the dark atmosphere this game provided to the franchise.

I honestly bought this game for the FF15 demo but I had also heard good things about type-0 and I'm happy that I gave it a shot! It is really fun and the combat is something different for a FF game. I would recommend giving it a shot that's for sure.
