After 10 long years Final Fantasy is back and it is simply AMAZING!

My first playthrough of FFXV left me content with the game, despite a few flaws. The characters were enjoyable and the ending was touching and the world had a sense of adventure for the first half as you explore through the region, visit towns, and find things to do. The second half of the game grows weaker as the openness transitions to a series of enclosed areas with no choices for exploration and none of the earlier variety of things to complete. If Final Fantasy XIII was a series of hallways with an open area at the end, FFXV offers the reverse, likely due to development crunches requiring sections to be trimmed down or cut entirely. Some of the more compelling complexities of the story are buried away or found outside the game rather than in the main narrative as well. Combat, like a great many action RPGs, devolves largely into button mashing without any real need for strategizing. Enough healing items and you can just button smash through most anything. The worst of it is the amount of DLC that's been added to flesh out the game, requiring launch buyers to replay the entire game or wait 2 years to come near a complete story (though more character story DLCs are still coming, so 2 years might be selling it short). All the elements of a truly amazing Final Fantasy are here, but they don't quite come together to deliver what could have been a top title in the series. As it is, it's an enjoyable game to play through, but one you likely won't look back on as fondly in a few years' time, especially if you start to analyze it more deeply.

It was a really fun game with a lot of content. Highly recommended.

Not sure if the deluxe version is worth it. Adds a few things but nothing major. personally save your money and get the standard version.
