Great graphics, a must have for anyone who loves Final Fantasy

The last few Final Fantasy games have really felt VERY limited. Rather than giving you a massive world to explore, they have taken you on a strictly guided tour of a largely empty world. This game changes that. Once more you are allowed to explore and grow at your own pace. It was greatly reminiscent of the classics like Final Fantasy 7/8/9.

It is generally a fun experience, but often frustrating, both from a gameplay perspective and from an objective critical standpoint (there are a lot of moments where you watch a story bit and just think 'who the heck decided that should be in the game?'). It's a game that doesn't quite know what it wants to be. It's a game where you're told that your dad's dead one minute, and the next minute the music turns into Japanese muzak and your buddy's telling you to go fishing. It's a game that makes me wish there was an open-world game that was just brave enough to forget about story. If this game were JUST about four buddies on a road trip thru a Final Fantasy-ish world, beating up monsters and cooking out and helping strangers, then it would be a blast. But it also JUST HAD to have this story shoehorned in which barely makes sense and which the game itself barely seems to care about. The backstory of Ardyn *seems* to be very interesting ... and the game just kind of farts it out as it walks past you. So, often, you just kind of feel like the game is wasting your time.

Not exactly FFVII, but a very good experience none the less.

There are some marvelous things about this game, the combat is pretty simple and easy but is beautiful to watch, Nomura's character design isn't everyone's cup of tea but I personally like it. The story is pretty awful and shoe string, which is unfortunate. Worth the purchase but not the best in the series. At least it finally got released!

If you like Final Fantyasy games you will like this one. Gameplay is different than the others.
