    The wrong paragon of quality

It concerns me that this game is receiving the praise it is. Final Fantasy XV is another victim of a long development cycle, that emerges after 10 years of development feeling slapped together with no sense of what makes Final Fantasy great in the first place. When the series is in desperate need of a back-to-basics approach, Square Enix's answer is apparently a game that has no problem wasting your time with endless traversal. Instead of keeping you engaged in a world that makes sense to explore, you have the mandatory option of watching your NPC party member drive a car while the playable protagonist sits motionless in the backseat, insisting you don't touch the controller. And when you do have the opportunity to drive, you hold down the R2 trigger to accelerate as the car automatically steers with the bends in the road. I've never seen a game as big as this to be totally okay with asking you for as little participation as possible. The benefit to this is anyone's guess. Familiar mechanics return in ways that are convoluted. Worst of all, under the facade of character relationships and story building, Square Enix presents you with protagonists whose actors have clearly recorded their lines separately, with pieced-together conversations that are nothing if not awkward. Combat starts out fun but quickly dissolves into extra features that are muddy when executed. A real-time battle system is welcome to Final Fantasy but when button prompts don't seem to matter and holding the Square button down to constantly dodge almost guarantees you victory, you wonder why bother with a fighting system that isn't turn-based. Final Fantasy XV is the wrong paragon of quality. It's entirely too big to get around anywhere in a fun manner. It's a slop of mechanics and ideas that don't mesh together well. It's arguably the least likable group of Final Fantasy protagonists. It's a mess. It's a hard pass.

Good game, great storyline, not so sure on the brotrip aspect, miss the rotating permanent party members. No permanent female party members kinda ruins it for me. Messing with the dynamic feels like an excuse on the developers part.

This game is excellent. Some may miss the old turn based mechanics of previous titles but it makes up for it in many other ways. If you like Kingdom Hearts' gameplay then FFXV's should suit you just fine.

A Classic Series Fallen so Far

Final Fantasy has had a hard run in recent decades. Formerly THE premier JRPG, they are now a punchline. Final Fantasy XV doesn't so much remedy this as it does cement it. Unfinished, missing huge stretches of story and content, and what there is seems hardly worth the time anyway. Not only that but the entire prologue is a movie that isn't even included. On the plus side, banter between the party is actually engaging (even if character designs are greatly lacking), and the game looks amazing even on a base PS4.

I bought this game as a birthday present for my wife and we were FFX (FF10) players. I have to admit the new control takes time for us to adapt but overall the experience of the game has been good.

I'm not a Final Fantasy fan but the production quality of this game and all of the surrounding alternate media (movie, web-series) really enhances the experience. You should definitely watch Kingsguard prior to playing. It adds depth to the game story.

Fans of the series will no doubt be familiar with the long development process for this game. It's amazing that after such a troubled development process the game would turn out as well as it has.

Totally new to the FF series and heard that this is great for someone out of the loop; it is. I’ve been having so much fun with the game and it offers a decent sound track that makes cruising enjoyable aside from the action the game offers.

This has been my favorite FF game since X. The only thing i don't like is the action rpg aspect of it but thats just modern rpgs unfortunately. They don't make turn based rpgs like they used to.

This isn't like the Final Fantacies of old, and that's alright. Here you get a faster pace but with some of the classic elements returning that so many fans were sad to see leave when Final Fantasy XIII came out. Sit down, dig in, and enjoy!

The game was pretty good for the first 2/3 of the way through from the combat to the questing mechanics. It was the final arc that really soured the taste bringing it down to a 3 out of 5.

I wanted to like this game, but the storyline didn't grab me. I think if I wasn't a 50 year old, I'd like it better. There are too many sequences I am supposed to remember and there is too much equipment managing and spell crafting etc.

I bought this game thinking it would be just like the other Final Fantasy games. It is not. They finally introduced a fight system that makes sense. So far it is a lot more immersive than any other Final Fantasy I've played

Big fan of the series. I have been waiting for months on this. I was super excited to see that my store had copies left on the first day. I was a bit worried, since I did not pre-order.

The game is self described as love letter to fans and first-timers. This game is interesting in the sense that you can play it in spurts at a time and come back to it. I'm not much for binge gaming anymore so rather enjoy that aspect.

Big time Final Fantasy fan, and this game was worth the wait! It's different than older Final Fantasy installments but still a ton of fun. Definitely recommend people should play this!
