This game has pros and cons, and while I liked the story, the game play was a bit too linear and not as open world as I would have liked. As I said, the story is a good one, if a bit rehashed from other games. Prince leaves kingdom, kingdom is attacked, prince must reclaim throne and stop end of the world. There's more too it, but that is the spoiler free edition. The overall game play is good as well, but the game is too linear in my opinion. Yes you have some freedom, much more than Final Fantasy XIII, but still not a lot since you are restricted based on story progress. That means some areas are unavailable early on, but become accessible later on, but once you reach Chapter 9, it's totally linear game play and everything outside of what you are doing is locked. No side quests, no deviation from the main story quest at all. The only upside to this is after you beat the game in Chapter 14, you unlock a feature that lets you "go back in time" and lets you do the things you couldn't do after Chapter 9. Like several other JRPG's and RPG's out there, there are mini-games to be had in this game. Chocobo racing and a monster arena where you bet on one team to win are just two of the mini games. Sadly, the monster arena is fairly easy to predict the winner and they cap the max bet at only 9999 medals, so you have to spend a lot of time to be able to purchase the highest valued prizes, as the payouts are usually only 1.2 to like 4 times the base bet. So if you bet 9999 you lose 9999 but then get like 11999 back. The chocobo racing has a trick that if you don't know it's nearly impossible to finish first after the first race, and even knowing it is still difficult in like the 5th race on. Another mini game that has limited use is fishing. You fish, you catch a fish and you get a fillet of the fish you caught. It can be used for cooking if you know, or learn, the recipe. There is an achievement for the first time you fish, and when you max it out at level 10. Getting to level 10 can take a long time as you can only fish in certain places, and then you have to have the right lures to get the fish in those spots. You have 3 modes of transportation in the game, there is a secret 4th one that you can unlock once you beat the game, but I won't discuss that. The first is the classic by foot. There are very rare random encounters on foot during the day, and very few places you run into monsters directly so your experience is most likely going to be quest related. At night, or when your squad mates mention hearing magitek motors, you will get random encounters. The second mode of transportation you unlock is the Regalia, your car. It's nice but it definitely needs maintenance. A cool feature of it is that you can upgrade the car so it uses less gas, is less likely to get dirty, and can go faster. Like walking you don't usually have encounters, unless it's night. And of course, the car has two modes, auto and manual. Auto means your squad mate Ignis drives, while manual the main character is behind the wheel and you control acceleration and turns. The third mode, and a bit into the story, is the Chocobo. Friendly birds that are faster than you are walking, they make travelling to do side quests much easier. As far as character development goes, it's mixed. Unless you spend a ton of time playing and have certain skills already developed, you won't likely get enough AP to use the Ascension menu to level up all of your skills. There are several different menus under Ascension, and each has it's own set of skills and abilities that they unlock. Ascension and the character development is important to survival in this game, so is leveling. Which brings me back to the issue of experience. The game does not instantly give your character their experience upon completing a quest or winning a battle, instead what it does is banks it. When you rest, you get the experience with a multiplier depending on where you sleep. Regular campgrounds, x1, Trailers x1.2, Motels x1.5, a certain hotel x2, and the best, but hardest to get to and most expensive...

If you loved the past final fantasy games you will love this one. They improved the fighting style by taking away the turn base system and used the KH fighting system. The graphics are great and the story is amazing.

This is a must buy if you like Final Fantasy games and RPGs in general. The new combat system is awesome and character depth is pretty solid. Great open areas that will allow you to play the game for tons of hours.

Despite the lack of polish (in some ways) that you would expect from a Final Fantasy game, Final Fantasy XV has so much heart, and characters that you will connect to on a deep level. This game contains a very emotional journey through a gorgeous world.

The game looks beautiful and the story line is engaging. The side missions have not become boring and grinding isn't necessary to gain appropriate levels to be successful but definitely needed to 100% the game.

I've been waiting for FFVX ever since it was announced back in 2006. Finally, the release date was in sight in 2016. Let me firstly say that you don't have to have played the others games to remotely understand this installment. It's a gorgeous game and the play mechanics are smooth once you learn them. However, despite the great visuals, solid voice acting that might seem a tad over the top, the story feels disjointed. There is A LOT going on with the plot. In fact, I would highly suggest watching the companion movie to this game, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV since the movie deepens the events that transpire in the game. But even with the movie, there are parts of the game that happen off camera leaving the player feeling robbed of certain events. I can't give an example since that's spoiler territory. This game is fun at the end of the day and it is rich. You won't be overly disappointed.

I just want to get this out of the way - I've never played a FF game before FFXV. But after playing this game, I definitely want to try some of the older games! All of the characters are just so memorable, and the voice acting is just superb. It really brings the characters to life, and their individual tics just show really well through the animation and character models. It's just so much fun to play through the sidequests and listen to the Chocobros bicker and poke fun at each another. I'm also a fan of the action combat because I don't exactly like the wait style combat of previous FF games. So for me, it's a definite plus. I'm desperately hoping for the Chocobos to make an appearance in KH3!!!

This game is a good, not great RPG with fun action based game play and a beautiful world to play in. There are a lot of hours of game play built-in, but you will find some parts repetitive. The story is not on par with other RPGs (The Witcher series for example).

This game by far is great and very addicting but it has its shortcomings. The are a lot of things to like about this game. Graphics are beautiful, Gameplay is very open to what you can do its no longer constricting, also to fans of final fantasy they added a wait mode its similar to past games but it will vary on you some fans enjoy it. For 2/3 of the game it's open world and the rest is linear. As of today There are to 2 shortcomings 1 is loading rarely sometimes something doesn't load but it can be fixed by saving and loading the game the other one is that concerned many people was the story it seem people were confused at the end and for that square enix is fixing that by adding more story plot and cutsences very soon (for free because its going to be a patch not dlc also fixing any leftover bugs the game has since every game comes with them now). In all i recommend you pick it when possible.

I hadn't really liked a game in the series after FF IX, but this one has won me over. Great gameplay and story, I enjoy the action RPG style battle mechanics. I hope they make some more like this.

I put in about 45 hours in to the game now and I have been loving it. Different from other final fantasy games, kind more similar to kingdom hearts with the combat but not really. Pretty good story so far.

I haven't been this invested in a FF game since FFX-2 and that's 17yrs ago. Love the new mechanics and it looks absolutely beautiful. FF open world? Who would have known it would work so well. 5 Stars
