Good game, but an average final fantasy. The RPG elements were non existent and the story in second half of the game feels rushed. The game sets all these interesting elements, but completely abandoned most of them in second half.

Missing a lot of the aspects of a final fantasy game. The game is average, story is a copy of game of thrones until it isn’t towards the end. Exploration is pointless, dialogue is very long winded.

This game would easily be a 3 because there is so much that is not very good in this game, but I'll give it a 4 because I enjoyed the main story and battles. The bad - A ton of boring fetch side quests that mean nothing until you get closer to the end of the game. Almost non existent inventory and no traditional magic spells or party customization. You literally only control the main character the entirety of the game. Horrible performance on graphics mode, virtually unplayable. Performance mode tries to hit 60 fps and does, with a lot of framerate dips in between. Unacceptable for a $500 console in 2023. Some very bad and blurry and even non existent textures in some character model clothing and weapons, distant environment backdrops. Lots of lifeless NPC's in the towns all over the world who have nothing exciting to say. Also, very empty environments with little enemy variety. Can travel on my Chocobo far distances without seeing much of anything. There simply isn't anything to do in the extremely linear world besides hunts. See a building in the distance? Nothing to do there but look at it and grab a useless treasure. One last thing. This game is about 60% cutscenes and 40% gameplay. The cinematic story cutscenes are pretty good, but the regular dialogue cutscenes can be extremely long and mundane. Now for some good and great. I enjoy the story and most of the main characters. Clyve is pretty cool and we've needed a character like him badly. Kupka was also a great character, but without spoiling anything, we just needed more of him. Barnabas is mostly boring. Cinematic style Eikon summon fights look spectacular, even though there isn't any depth to the fights themselves. Button mash 2 buttons and win. This brings me to the overly simplified combat in FF 16, which is a hit and a miss. Combat is too easy as you only need to use square to attack and can literally ignore triangle most of the time. And to use special abilities all you do is hit R2+square or triangle. And there is a dodge button. That is literally as deep as the combat goes. This is a pure action game, and role playing second. This is where a lot of fans are divided and I completely understand those who hate it. I personally don't mind it and enjoy the combat. It's fast paced and I haven't really cared about turn based combat in a long time, although I still enjoy that as well. The visuals actually are spectacular when it comes to enemy and boss and eikon battles as well. Tons of great looking ability effects that can unfortunately make you unable to see what the enemy is even doing, so you WILL get hit at some point, no matter what. Music is spectacular as well. It follows FF 15's beautiful orchestral style, with FF 16 taking it up a few notches even. It's glorious and I can't wait to listen to the full 8 disc soundtrack. I didn't hear 8 discs worth of music in the game itself so it'll be interesting to listen to it. Well, that about does it for my personal experience with the game. I certainly feel like I got my money's worth (even though I traded some old games in and basically got it for free). FF 16 is a massive departure from the traditional FF games, so it will be a hit or a miss for many and that's completely understandable. Not everyone cares for new directions in game franchises. I'm just glad I thoroughly enjoyed 55+ hours I've played.

It’s ok. The highs are high but the lows are VERY low. Outside of the Eikon battles this game is a chore and very boring. Very cutscene heavy. Metal Gear Solid 4 was mocked for being a movie game but this game is easily 3x that

So i had been anticipating this game all year, even being the prime reason I had purchased a PS5. I pre-ordered the game on the 6th of june. I patiently waited for it to arrive on the 22nd, and the preorder deals to arrive a few days later. Well the game never arrived, all it said was it had been delayed, with no tracking info aside from a label being created in GA. I contacted support, the automated system was of no use, and the person kept telling me about tracking on the steelbook. Finally after being disconnected, I went to the app and chatted with support. They were more helpful, telling me to call back in a day if nothing has changed. 2 days later i called again asking what was up, they told me they can change it to instore pickup, but wouldnt be there until the 1st, over 2 weeks after launch. Finally I called back to get a full refund and got it from Target that day with no hassel. I honestly wont be pre-ordering from Best Buy ever again.

I can't even play this because the frame rate and motion blur in both quality & performance modes give me motion sickness. no way to turn off motion blur. absolutely ridiculous this wasn't address in the day one patch. id return it and get my money back if I could.

    Amazing game, despite some repetition.

Game is fantastic. My past experiences with FF games haven't been too successful, as I didn't really care for the ones I played. Guess I'm not a huge fan of turn based games. This one, however, I decided to try due to it being more hands on and action based, and I was not disappointed. It's is super fun to play, though I will admit it feels a bit button mashy at times but the combat is so flashy I can overlook it most of the time. Story, characters, character design, writing and world are great, though there are some classic JRPG tropes I've seen before I will not spoil. Biggest problems are the game is a bit too easy, and side quests get a bit repetitive. Despite those points, super fun game and I highly recommend it for the appropriate audiences.

Every hour into it I liked it less (and I really wanted to like it). The combat and big set pieces got less and less compelling, and while the plot had some fun reveals, it couldn't overcome simply bad combat.
