To check for updates, open settings, select device, then updates, and check for any software updates. I also recommend clearing out any apps that may be running in the background. Select the square button at the bottom of the screen and swipe up to close any apps running in the background. You should also ensure you have a strong Wi-Fi connection, as this can also cause lag with the device.
