It's Hyrule Warriors, basically.

This game is basically Hyrule Warriors, but with a few extra mechanics. The major improvement is the weapon triangle - some weapons are inherently better against other weapons, so you want to factor that in when you're planning a battle. The other big improvements come from the relationship mechanic that's essentially a carryover from the Fire Emblem games. I don't think it affects the game much, but I'm only a few hours in.
If you liked Hyrule Warriors and wanted more of the same..then Fire Emblem Warriors is what you've been looking for.

Hi everyone, I'm back with another review...this time it's a spinoff to one of my favorite Nintendo franchises, Fire Emblem! Before I begin, let me state that this game ONLY works on the "New" Nintendo 3DS line (New 3DS, New 2DS and their XL counterparts) family, so those of you that own a standard 3DS, XL, or 2DS, this game isn't supported. Also, the game only display's in 2d and not 3d, regardless of the system. Okay, now that that's been cleared up, let's begin, shall we? Fire Emblem Warriors released on the New 3DS line and the Switch back in October of 2017. As a big Fire Emblem fan, I purchased it on the Switch on release day, but this isn't about the Switch version, now is it? I've own a New 3DS XL for a almost a month, and this was the very first game I purchased for it.
If you've play any of the Dynasty Warriors and their many spinoffs, (Warriors Orochi, Pirate Warriors, Samurai Warriors etc. and Nintendo's own Hyrule Warriors (Zelda's take on the franchise) then you're right at home. If not, the game plays like a hack'n slash mixed in with Fire Emblem's stable tactical gameplay that the series is known for. In story mode, you chose between two young lord characters as you try the save their kingdom, which is on the brink of destruction. Along the way, you'll come across numerous Fire Emblem heroes from previous games who will lend you their strength and aid you in battle as yours to control. The weapon triangle, a Fire Emblem stable is in full effect, so planning carefully is key. Like in Fire Emblem, you can command your forces on the battlefield and give them orders, such as pair up (a mechanic that debuted in Fire Emblem Awakening), guarding, duel strike, healing, and more. One mistake can make or break you.
As you play through the game's story mode, you'll unlock a variety of modes, including History Mode, the coliseum, training grounds, forging and shopping and more. On note, I'd like to mention that the game does have dlc, so if you run out of things to do, check it out. It's great! All in all, the game serves as nice spinoff the the series and is a nice way to get newcomers into the series alongside its mobile sister, Fire Emblem Heroes, which I highly recommend. I'm still playing through, and probably will for a long while. Take care everyone!

So obviously if you played the Switch version, that's the better version to play, but if you're still on the 3DS, there is a lot to like. For one, if you've played Hyrule Warriors, you'll love that the insane amount of lag has been mostly corrected. The map strategy feature is great to keep you micromanaging your characters as you play a stage. Tons of weapons, good performance for a 3DS game, and overall I got to say I am satisfied with this game. Being an old Dynasty Warriors fan, this scratches the itch, especially on the go.

I bought the Switch version of FEW and it's essentially a dedicated portable version of the same game. Lacks the same visual fidelity (naturally) but still the same great, fun game for both Fire Emblem and Warriors/musou fans.

FEW is a decent game that follows the traditional 'Warriors' formula. It is your traditional hack n' slash gameplay with the Fire Emblem characters. Not much has been added to differentiate this game from many others. Still fun though.

Bought this for my son (Christmas) who has the previous games and has finished/enjoyed them all. You will need the newest 3DS in order to play this one.

As expected between a switch release and a 3DS release, the hardware is weaker for the 3DS so temper expectations accordingly. With that in mind, I thought it was fun enough for what it was. Musou is a well-known formula already and the new twists made it interesting.

Fire Emblem Warriors benefits from being a New 3DS-exclusive game because that system's stronger horsepower enables it to run much more smoothly than Hyrule Warriors Legends, which was playable across all 3DS models but felt like a hot mess compared to its Wii U and Switch counterparts and just wasn't fun to play. This game runs much more smoothly and is a lot more fun, and holds up surprisingly strongly compared to its HD version for the Switch. It isn't necessary to own both versions unless you're just that big a fan of the game (or don't have a Switch), but it gets the job done admirably. My only gripe would be that it can't be played in 3D, which I think would've looked really great if they could've pulled it off.

note: this is for the 3DS version of the game not everything said in this review reflects the switch version.
fire emblem warriors is easily one of the best warriors games for the system, the game runs at a solid 60 frames per second and the audio is pretty good too, It's actually kind of surprising how well this game runs, though at the cost of the characters looking like models made of clay and every victory, and boss intro being pre rendered. It should also be noted that this game only works on the new 3DS and new 2DS xl.
