Great idea just not executed. Needs work and a good antena.

I have one of the last Panasonic Plasma TV's and I have to say the compression that the Fire Recast does to the video is noticeable. I had to return it. I might give it a try once Amazon updates it and adds full quality instead of the 720p compression.

Frequently records the wrong TV shows. You can't select which channel to record a series on, so if you get signals for more than one of the same network, it records duplicates and takes up the tuners so other shows don't record. Playback choppy.

The salesman told me he did the same thing as a fire stick and it gave you memory to save movies. He was wrong (as usual) I don’t need what I bought and haven’t used it to store movies but on the fire stick.

I could only get 35 channels. i bought an HD antenna and the service would still be chopy. Returned it not worth the price.

No written instructions and couldn't download online instruction'-- had to return I hope to purchase Tablo Quad 1TB when available

Recast for me isn't worth it. Probably will return it. Picture is poor and only receives 2 channels we watch. My opinion.

I am a basic person, I like easy stuff and this is easy, Thank You..... The Amazon FireTV RECAST is an amazing device... As of right now, 2019, I consider it to be the "gold standard" DVR device for true cordcutters. There are several good DVR's out there for OTA (over-the-air) televison, but I only used Tivo. However, what sets this product apart from the rest is that there are no recurring monthly fees or costs associated with the DVR after you own it. You set it up, and that's it... free OTA for life, with the ability to record directly to your own DVR. Amazon FireTV Recast has made the 14 day channel guide & DVR functionality completely FREE. The others charge a small monthly subscription fee to get the 14 day channel guide, and use the DVR functionality. The ultimate goal of cordcutting is to avoid extra service fees & costs, and SAVE MONEY. Since over-the-air (OTA) television is free, then why should I pay to watch and record it? With Amazon FireTV Recast, it's all included when you buy the device... the channel guide looks like what you would expect a typical on-screen TV guide to look like. It's easy to search for your favorite programs and record them. Plus since this is a streaming device, you can "cast" the OTA television from your antenna to all the devices in your home. If you want to watch it on your phone, you just download the Amazon FireTV app. I should mention that you do still need a FireTV stick for your television, IN ADDITION TO the Recast. The Recast simply takes your antenna signal and sends it to all the FireTV sticks in your house. But the real beauty of this product is the DVR functionality (without any DVR service fees) and the 14 day channel guide which Amazon provides free of charge. I highly recommend this device... I was told this product just needed to be plugged into the cable box and it would record shows. Not even close. So angry. Won't buy any more products from you given your own reps don't know the products you sell. I need to return it. Please tell me how to do so.

Multiple people have tried to get this device to connect. Using you tube videos and directions with device. Sad to say expensive paper weight.

This device had problems with syncing of voice and picture of over the air stations. Playback of recordings would drop out and require restarting. Almost frustrating enough to go back to cable.

The hardest product I have tried to install. Can't connect it to my internet. I would like to return it but from what I was told it's out of the 15 day electronic window. This will be my last BB purchase.

I returned this as I recorded a few football games and the playback stuttered. Maybe a software update has fixed these issues since but I had bad luck with this.

Stared working fine but now is not receiving antenna signal but tivo and my others t.v.s are.

If I could give this a lower rating I would certainly do that . I have never experienced the rosey and/or stellar performances described. My experience in owning the Fire TV Recast has been nothing short of a nightmare. It has never consistently lived up to the hype and performance expectations. The Fire TV Recast is fantastic when it does work, but this is very short-lived. The only remedy in addition to factory resets and total unit replacement has been restarting the device. That is a problem in itself because I am constantly restarting the device. When the unit works, it does the job well. There have been so many software updates many of the small niceties such as being able to watch a program and surf for another have disappeared. There are times when trying to record a series is no longer possible. The Recast has been a very good idea in concept, but poorly executed. Other devices such as the Tablo have done a far better job. This is a waste of money! After much frustration and back and forth with Amazon tech support, we have performed a factory reset five times over 3 years. This means you lose all recordings which happened to be successful. I have been through 3 different devics. I was told it was my internet, my equipment, including antenna. I have replaced them all with stellar components. I ended up paying for technicians from Xfinity cable because they found no fault with my internet or Wi-Fi connections contributing to the problem. I am not alone in this.

I could not get acceptable playback of recorded shows so I returned my unit. Playback on my TV using the Fire TV Stick was frequently slightly to severely pixilated. Playback on my iPhone was clear. Amazon help says that poor video quality is due to poor network and they recommend using ethernet instead of WiFi. I purchased the Amazon ethernet adaptor for my Fire TV Stick. The Recast was connected by gigabyte ethernet. Video playback did not improve using ethernet. I found a review that said Amazon is aware of the video playback issue but the reviewer did not know when Amazon might fix it. Most of my recordings were 1080i. I learned that the Recast converts this to 720P for playback. Playback might be better if the original broadcast is 720P or 480i. Picture quality for live TV was excellent. I got excellent Dolby Digital sound for live and recorded programs. The guide often only had programming information for two days. I expected programming information for 14 days. My system froze several times and required restarting the Fire TV Stick. I also did a factory reset on my Fire TV Stick and Recast but no improvement. I hope that Amazon supports 1080i playback and fixes the many bugs in fgutre Recast devices.

Been using this for 3 years now. It been fine. Starting to have problems now. But overall its been good

Casting or playback, the picture looks horrible. It's like looking at a 480i video on a 1080p monitor. Went back to hooking up the antenna straight to the TV. Maybe it's just me but I'm surprised that not many reviewers see this as a problem. I don't have the box it came in so I'll have to keep this as a doorstop. Maybe I'll take it apart and reuse the hard drive. The Fire TV app needs work too. You can't search for channels. You have to scroll to find channels. The channel labels don't help and can't sort by channel numbers either.
