One of the down sides to cord cutting is missing out on local channels and sports. With this device and a reasonable antenna, you can keep those channels (for free) to supplement paid services like Netflix or use this to alongside Kodi. Great Amazon integration and interface! One of the reasons I went with Amazon is that they will work on supporting and improving their products. You can count on updates. This is a smooth transition for anyone familiar with or currently owning a Fire Stick or Fire TV product. It's just another "tab" or app. I was willing to pay more up front on this because it comes with storage so you don't have to buy additional devices AND unlike most OTA DVRs, you don't have to pay for the channel guides! You can also watch your recording when you travel, as it will stream from your DVR at home. Catch it on sale for $170 or $180. Honestly if you are using it as a cord cutting transition, just consider it an up front cost to get rid of your outrageous cable bill! My inlaws saved $150 a month and my wife and I saved $175 a month! You'll want decent internet and a good router. The antenna plug into the Recast and then it is streamed to Fire TV devices or devices with apps.

FireTV is the perfect choice for OTA DVR, if you already have a FireStick. Originally I purchased Tablo, but it had connectivity issues, plus had to pay a fee for channel guide. FireTV has built in storage and allows me to watch OTA channels directly from FireStick. I don’t have to change the input on my TV. It also allows me to access OTA channels and DVR from multiple TVs in the house, with only 1 antenna. No monthly fee for the channel guide is a big savings! Also you can scroll through the guide while still watching the current channel selection! I highly recommend Amazon FireTV Recast!

My original review was going to be negative - because the Fire TV Recast did not work with the Fire Cube. But a few days after my purchase I guess Amazon updated things and now everything works together extremely well. This also fixed two other concerns for me - I wanted my antenna to be away from my TV (just needs to be near the Fire TV Recast) and I did not have a turner in my TV for the antenna - which is now not necessary since the antenna plugs into the Recast. This was the last step in 'cutting the cord' with cable, and things are going very well.

Simple setup (wifi connection allows for garage placement), antenna directional is very helpful and seamless connection to Fire Stick. Would be 5 stars except that I have only owned it briefly so far so insufficient track record to give top rating. Would recommend and purchase again.

This all depends on where your HD antenna is placed and if your location isn't too far from the broadcasters to pick up the channels that you want to watch. After using testing it out for a month or two, it is collecting dust. For my situation, I need an outdoor antenna instead of an indoor one with 30 miles range. I liked that it integrated with my FireStick TV.

This is a great way to record broadcasts from your antenna and also to be able to view live or recorded shows on any of your tv's that are equipped with a FireTV stick! No physical connection is necessary between your antenna and your tv's, only between the antenna and the Recast.

The Amazon Fire TV Recast has revolutionized how we watch TV. Becoming a cord cutter and ditching Satellite TV for IP based streaming services, there was still one remaining local channel that couldn’t be found from any streaming provider. While the local channel is available with an antenna, it is quite difficult to switch TV inputs to switch over to an antenna input and then select a channel – I wanted everything to be accessible right from within the Fire Stick 4K menu. This solved it. The Amazon Fire TV Recast works perfect tucked away in a basement mechanical room connected to an over the air antenna and the internet. Now, any local channel is right there on the Fire Stick 4K environment and multiple Fire Stick 4K's in the house can all stream from the Recast. I couldn’t be happier.

If you want to cut your cable bill, get an OTA antenna, some Fire Sticks, and this baby here. Get all the local channels plus all the additional digital changes they broadcast. Plug the antenna wore into this box and steam live TV too your Fire TV sticks without additional wires. Plus it lets you watch on your phone or tablet when you're not at home. What am incredible device!

I wanted to cut the cable cord, but my biggest hesitation was that everything seemed to need hard wiring to the over the air antenna. The Recast actually solved my issue! I was able to set up my antenna in the best window for reception, and plug that right into the Recast. Simple as that, Any live TV I get can be streamed through my wifi to any FireTV capable TV in my house. I didn't have to run wires. I just had to log in with either a FireTV or a FireStick. I'm delighted.

Good if you're have a good antenna over your roof not sure how it will work with a window antenna but from my experience a very good antenna on your roof facing your Tv towers will get your great results. Love it so far i'm able to watch live local Tv on my phone with the firetv app away from my house, you can also pause live Tv and resume in another room. You must have an antenna for your live local stations.

A must have purchase for cord cutters.... you need an external indoor or attic or even rooftop antenna for this. But over the air channels come in extreme high definition, they look even better than the cable channels. My only complaint is when you play the recordings back, you have to use your Wi-Fi. But other than that this thing gets five stars all the way.

Great to record free tv and cut the cable. Must get a high mile antenna .

Works well once you get your antenna in the right place to pick up the available channels. Haven't used it away from home yet, so will have to wait and see how that goes.

Bought this to couple with Playstation Vue. I have Amazon FireTV Sticks and Cubes throughout the house. This allows me to use a single antenna for multiple TV's in the house.

Finally got rid of cable and now am able to get my local channels on three tvs with one antenna

Great alternative to paying cable company for DVR access. Plus one antenna takes care of getting local channels to all my TV’s in the house.
