I don’t really like the way you have to manipulate the letters to make words.

Great for practice on spelling

And all I can say is that he absolutely loves this thing! And of course it is clearly helping him. You can see the improvements daily! Well worth the money!

Too cumbersome to use as a tool for writing

To get a word in focus for your child to practice writing... you have to do a fair amount of sliding letters up and down and around to get the right ones together. As a magnetic drawing board to use for fun... the board isn't big enough. As a tool for helping your child learn to write... it's way too much work to get a word in focus. You'd be better off buying a standard writing workbook.
