Decent fitness tracker, but known band issue

The Fitbit Charge HR is a decent fitness tracker in this era of health-consciousness. It allows users to customize displays on the tracker itself, (i.e., clock style, order of stats, stats displayed, and movement/gesture functions) as well as within the associated Fitbit app. The app is available on multiple devices, however, there is a lack of seamless syncing between devices running said app. For example: if you have the app on your desktop pc, laptop, tablet, and smartphone, they all seem to run independent of one another. If you sync your tracker with the app on your phone, and then open the app on your desktop, the phone's app will contain your most recent data, but the desktop will not. Do bear in mind that this pertains to those who opt to conserve tracker battery life by turning off the "all day sync" option within the app, and those who do not sync their tracker with multiple devices simultaneously (e.g., within the same physical space). The step calculations can be thrown off by certain user gestures that produce a hard shaking of the tracker (akin to a step's impact). Take your daily count with a grain of salt. For those travelling between time zones, be sure to sync the tracker with a device running the app in your most recent time zone, as automatic changes in location/time zone are not detected. This can impact the calculations gathered by the tracker, however. The tracker runs from midnight to midnight, so those up past 0000 will find that their stats reset to 0, even though their period of being awake has not ended. If you're looking for a tracker that follows you throughout your "day," (when you actually wake and then go to bed again later on) this is not the device for you. This Fitbit operates on a set schedule of the typical 24-hour day, and while it will record your activity, it will draw a hard line between days at 0000 without fail. The battery life of this tracker is decent, with a charge lasting around five days. Ensure that you have a wall adapter with a USB port available if you wish to charge it directly from an outlet. The wall adapter is not included with your purchase. A typical charging session with a 1.0 amp adapter takes around an hour. Keep in mind that you cannot wear the tracker while it is charging, so any activity completed during that time will go unrecorded (though the app does allow for "dormant" entries to be made). While the device holds up fairly well under sweaty conditions, as the information from Fitbit states, do not get it wet beyond a little rain. For best results, don't expose it to heavy rain, and immediately dry the tracker when/if it's exposed to water. For those avid swimmers, this device cannot be submerged, nor could it accurately track swimming movement/stats. Personally, this was a drawback, but for the price, it's understandable that it lacks this capability. (This purchase was made 11/2015 before the introduction of the Charge 2, which caused a drop in HR prices.) Despite extremely careful handling and diligent care, my initial tracker developed a bubble underneath the wristband (size small, colour black) that caused separation from the main display unit. When the problem seemed to be spreading, I contacted Fitbit support, and because my tracker fell under their one-year limited warranty, I was sent a replacement at no cost to me. Five months after receiving that replacement, I found a separation occurring at the upper left-hand corner of the band at the display unit housing. This was the same side of the band that my first HR experienced the bubbling issue with. After approximately a week, the small lift became a large separation that stretched 3/4 of the way across the band. Fitbit will only replace with the same model or offer a 30% maximum discount on a new purchase, so the Charge 2 may be a better option for those looking to avoid this issue altogether. (It was not an option at the time of my initial purchase, nor at the time of the first replacement. Given that this issue arose again, I have since opted to give the Charge 2 a try.) Overall, this is a decent tracker with a few, noted drawbacks. If you're looking for more capabilities functions, either go with one of Fitbit's more expensive options (Surge, Blaze, Charge 2, etc.) or find a different company entirely. If you want a midrange tracker at a somewhat inflated but not completely ridiculous price, this is probably the device for you. Always keep in mind that these devices have their glitches and will inevitably have some inaccuracies, and that the Charge HR does have a known issue with its band. They are also never a replacement for trained/monitored medical treatment. Give it a shot, and if you're unsatisfied and fall within the window of returns, return it and invest the funds elsewhere. As an alternative, the trackers themselves don't store personal data, so you can always regift your tracker to someone else. All they'll need to do is download the Fitbit app and connect the device to it (make sure to include the wireless dongle if they'll be connecting it to a pc or laptop). Your stats for the day will be erased, and the device will begin anew with another owner. (Caveat: this is also a reason not to lose your device, as anyone will be able to use it provided they have a charger, dongle, and/or Bluetooth.) Thanks for reading this, and happy tracking. *My non-recommendation for this product stems from the inevitable failure of the tracker's band. Given that the Fitbit family of products has greatly expanded since I made my initial purchase, I would now suggest a different tracker in their line. For the current price point, however, I would still say that those on a budget/first time buyers may be satisfied with this particular model.

I bought the Fitbit Charge HR so that I could track how many calories I am burning. It seems to be quite accurate and I use it along with myfitnesspal to lose weight. I haven't had any issues with it and it is helping me quite a bit to maintain a calorie deficit for weight loss. I also love the detailed logs such as for sleep. I've had it for over a month with no issues and am very glad I got it!

I was looking for a tracker to replace my pedometer and heart rate monitor, and this does it. Plus It seamlessly interfaces with My Fitness Pal. The HRM function is not as accurate as my Polar monitor (chest strap) but is within 5 BPM. Close enough for my needs and much more comfortable.

Got this to upgrade my previous fitbit. I was waiting for the Apple watch, but decided to get this instead. Battery life is pretty good, lasting almost a week. I really like that this model pairs with my phone and displays incoming calls. As most of the time, my phone is on my desk on silent and I miss calls at times. With this, that is no longer an issue. The heart rate monitor works pretty good. I'm not an expert at working out, but from what I can tell, the heart rate function on this awesome!

I love the Fitbit Charge HR! It is supreme compared to the other Fitbit products. It's very accurate with steps, heart rate, calories burned and distance walked. I wear it instead of my watch and charge it every 5 days. You can set an alarm to vibrate gently when it goes off. If you have a smart phone it lets you know when you have an incoming phone call by vibrating and scrolling the name of the caller on fitbit. It keeps me motivated to get in my steps each day! It was worth the money!!!

This is a great product. Bought this and used it and lost 20 lbs so far in six weeks! And that is because this product lets you track your exercise, track your caloric intake, and most importantly, keeps you motivated to meet your personalized fitness goals! Best fitness investment I ever made! I wear it religiously. It has become a part of my daily routine. Will not leave home without it.

Not having a clue how far I walk, or anything else, I used this to compile a baseline of my starting positions, then started on new goals based on this data. Better plan than just basing performance on the 'suggested guidelines', like 10000 steps... Data collected is presented in a nice weekly summary, as well as individual daily stats, and the unit resets each night at midnight for the new day. Just be careful to look into the sizing charts, as each FitBit bracelet fits differently.

I purchased this to replace a FitBit Flex since I wanted a tracker that would display time as well as steps counted on the device. (The Flex does not display time and you must sync it with either a smart phone or do it on line in order to see step count.) I thought the heart rate monitor was a great bonus with the Charge. After using the tracker for a few days, I found it to be a disappointment from what I expected it to be, especially for the price I paid. Yes, it displays time, but only for a few seconds after you push a button. Yes, it displays steps taken, but again, for only a few seconds (as opposed to "real time" monitoring). It records a heart rate but each time I manually took my pulse to compare to the tracker, manual findings were MUCH more accurate than the reading on the tracker. (The readout display is also almost unreadable in sunlight.) Also, unlike the Flex--which is pretty much waterproof and is recommended to wear even in the shower (although not for swimming)--the Charge is much more "delicate" and you MUST remove it for a minimum of an hour each day to let it completely dry out after workouts and sweat sessions and it must not be worn in the shower. The myriad of warnings about not wearing it too tightly or too loosely was also a concern, as well as the warnings of possible rash occurring with use.
