I needed something to track my sleep, caloric intake, exercise activities and combine them into one tool to measure my progress toward improving my performance, health and wellness. This Fitbit did the trick. Helped me to jumpstart a total plan. Motivates me to stay on track. Love it.

    battery makes it worthless

Started out loving the unit. Then the battery wouldn't hold a charge. The battery cannot be replaced, so you have to exchange the whole thing. Don't forget to bring the charging cable when you do, they want EVERYTHING back. I have had the 'new' one for a little over a month, and now its battery is dying also. Going to exchange it .... again. Good thing I still have HALF of my 1 year warranty left. I will keep exchanging it until my warranty is over, and then I will buy someone else's product. Don't know which one, but it will NOT be another Fitbit!

Don't buy it if you seek accuracy - or - Customer

Was truly stoked to get this - worked very well for a few months. OK - the heart rate monitor isn't quite accurate ~ I'm over 60 years old living at 700' and was training with a backpack (~50#) on the local football stadium wearing an elevation mask set fro 12,000 ft. My heart rate at the top of my 6 or 7th consecutive flight was ~110!!!! Not likely at my age! Oh~ and if you count flights of stairs - that is VERY spotty as well (we have 9' ceilings in the house and very regularly it doesn't count a flight of stairs - wonder how accurate it could POSSIBLY be on a mountain!!! But much WORSE than that was when after about 7 months of traiing, logging and recording data including 5 summits (on 14ers) plus a few others - and ALL my data just disappeared! I was checking regularly and the data downloaded - but when I went to do a historical analysis - GONE! Didn't do an update - or anything just POOF. Emailed and called the "customer service' and all they told me is to "start over", download the new update, we don't even see a Surge on your profile (yet y screen clearly said "Surge" and the final nail... "That can't happen! All I was asking for is; where can I send this in to have it calibrated? (At my expense!!!) They were obnoxious and truly worse than no help at all! DON'T BUT IT! Mine is now in a drawer...never to see the light of day!

    Requires recharging every 5 hours

It's a great product for fitness trainers. However, the GPS mode I found out drains the watch every 5 hours. If you're not into using GPS tracking, it'll last a week. So be sure you're carrying your Fitbit charger with you to work and recharge it, which is inconvenient as it takes 2 hours to recharge it to 100 percent.

    Good Software // Bad Band

The Surge is a good product for fitness tracking -- the issue I continued to have is the band breaking. Every 3 months there would be a crack develop between the two screws by the watch face. Fitbit will replace at no cost but not send out a replacement to the Blaze that has replaceable bands. The Surge is all one piece so replacement bands are not possible. I bought the product in November of 2015 -- had I known the Blaze was coming out in a few months with a color face, replaceable bands and a lower price, I would have waited.

My first surge froze up after wearing 2 months. Returned it & got another one. It froze after 3 months. I am so disappointed, I really liked the surge. Has anyone else had a problem with freezing?

Typical use and this product died after 15 days of use. The re start did not work and it had no function. It was never dropped or got wet. I even bought a cover slip for it to protect it from begin scratched (wasted money). Without the warranty protection program I was only able to return with an in store credit. I do not recommend this fitness watch to anyone.

I have really enjoyed using this product!!. It does everything it said it would do and more. I haven't really tested it for running since I'm not a runner but I have used it in Spin class and for long walks.

I love my Fitbit!! It's perfect for my exercise habits. The only con is that it is bulky on my wrist. I have gotten accustom to it, but I occasionally hit it on something or sometimes gets stuck in the sleeve of a jacket, but other than that it's fantastic.

    touchscreen not working

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

After the quick updates, the touchscreen is not responsive. Once FITBITs site finally was working again, there is a community thread with lots of people having the same issue. FITBIT says to reset the device and change the clock face to resolve however that does not work. FITBIT knows about the issue and "working to resolve". I would not waste your money until they do in fact resolve. Note, you can still sync and see the results of your day via your phone/PC so right now its just an expensive step counter. https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Surge/Unable-to-swipe-between-screens/m-p/592370/highlight/false#M446

    Not accurate

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased as a gift for my wife on Mother's Day. The main let down and concern was that the steps taken were completely inaccurate. She literally had the watch on while I configured the computer "dashboard" setting- it would show that she took 20 steps when she didn't even move her arms or feet at that. There is no way to reset or clear the number of steps taken. The sleep monitor would say she slept 2 hours at night when she had a full 6 hours of sleep. We both were so bummed out and she tried to make it work but the only accurate thing about the fitbit surge was the actual time/watch feature. $249 for a black non stylish watch is nothing to make our decision on wanting to keep this "watch". We returned it in before our 15 day return policy expired. We had purchased about 1 year previously the regular fit bit band again to use for the step- pedometer feature and was not satisfied again by the inconsistent reading. We returned that back then and we were hoping that the surge would of been more accurate due to the price but we were wrong- again. It's so surprising how this brand is still on the market and even more surprising on the positive reviews fit bit gets.

    Fitbit Surge

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This product - the Surge - is a wonderful concept but very very poor in performance. The features that the device has are impressive, but as one begins to use them one finds that they are flawed. When the data produced by this device is compared to other sources it is sometimes OK and other times very lacking in accuracy. But, the most glaring fault is in the HRM feature. It plainly does not work. It is on sometimes and off sometimes. I have tried to work with the company's support and that is a terribly, awful experience. They took along time to get back to me and then only gave partial or no answers. So, a word to the wise. BUYER BEWARE!!! When you couple a flawed product (that is expensive) with a terrible support system it is a recipe for endless hours of frustration and disappointment. DO NOT buy this product.

Good watch to monitor your activity

Liked this watch for all the activities it monitors unfortunately it only lasts one year! The band falls apart either peeling or tearing. Fitbit replaced the first Surge Watch but the 2nd one they just sent me a $25.00 coupon. Thanks but no thanks! This issue also happened to one of my co-workers so it seems like it’s an issue! Fitbit needs to make better watches if it wants to keep its customers. I’m use to having a watch last for years not just one!

I wish that Fitbit would stop trying to make smart watches and just focus on exercise watches. I bought this watch back when it was $250. Now, Best Buy has lowered the price to $179 and for good reason. I'm fresh out of the hospital off of a heart attack so I wasn't sweating that much at the time. As matter fact, all I was doing was walking on the treadmill because that's all I could do. After about 2 months, it started to get condensation on the inside. Mind you, I took this watch off even when I washed my hands.

EXTREMELY DIM!!! Annoying chest band monitor!!!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought it thinking this would be a great activity tracking watch. It's hard to track when it's hard to see. I only had it for a day and when I went outside to see, I could barely see anything even with backlight on. I did some research and change the brightness isn't an option. You may download different watch faces which is cool but still the brightness is a problem. The Connect IQ app that goes with it is great. I will give it credit but you also have to wear the chest band for heart monitor. Even that was iffy at best. I am going to return it and get one with the heart monitor built into the band vs having to wear one across my chest. Uncomfortable!!

    Surge won't last a year!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I am on my 3rd surge in a year and a half! I purchased my fitbit surge in April 2015 and it lasted 5 months before the band cracked around the screws located on the back. The face of the watch was compromised by perspiration leaking through the crack. I called customer service and they sent me a new one...all good right? Wrong! 5 months later the same thing! Again I called and they sent me a new one:) 6 months later it happened again and this time the battery won't hold a charge and the floor counts are way off. A third call to customer service was met by..."the one year warranty has expired". No new watch!!! SORRY there is nothing we can do. Now, if I have had 3 watches fail in a year and a half do you trust spending $250 for 1??? I would say not.

The functions and features are great. The Fitbit community is great. The water resistance is a joke! I barely found it sweat resistant. The charging cable is terrible. The band fell apart over the course of six months. You can't replace the band. After 6 months I went to a Fitbit Zip and forgot about this device. I now use a Garmin Edge 1000 to track my biking and the Fitbit Zip only for tracking steps.
