I like the functionality. However, like most devices with heart rate monitors, it's never accurate 100% of the time. The most accurate I had was the Microsoft Band; HOWEVER, the charging function would fail often. This is THE BEST alternative I've found, and I've been through 3 different devices, including the Apple Watch (horrible heart rate monitor).

I've had the Surge for about 3 months and these are my findings. I've compared my outdoor bike and run times/distances with an app on my phone (Endomondo) with GPS enabled several times and they're within approx. 5% of each other. Pulse rate is also within 5% when measured by hand. I do not run or cycle indoors so I can't comment on those activities while wearing the watch. The few times I tested the floor climb counter and step counter and it seems fairly close. I don't recall percentages for those activities. The watch monitors sleep very well. I just have to get used to wearing one to bed. When I first got the Surge (July '15) functionality was limited but with a few software updates, accuracy has improved (to the figures stated above) and additional options added (outdoor biking and standard stopwatch). Sweat and rain doesn't seem to bother the functionality, however, it is recommended that the watch be removed and cleaned after activity. The watch has to be worn snug and slightly higher up on the arm to be accurate. I've always worn my watches this way so this is normal for me and I have never had any comfort issues with it. As for syncing, I have a Samsung Note 3 running Android 5.0 and the two communicate perfectly via Bluetooth. There isn't a lot of fluff with this device. The interface and aesthetics are simplistic by design with few bells and whistles. And that's exactly how I like it. I would recommend the Surge to anyone that loves to be active and is interested in keeping track of their stats.

My sister is a runner and wanted a watch to track her progress. First attempt was a bust... wish I had just chose this one first so I wouldn't have had to go back to the store :)

I have tried several fitness watches. Fitbit surge is by far the best fitness watch, comparable with several apps and you are able receive notices of phone call and text messages.

I'm an avid walker with a daily goal of 20,000 steps and thus seek an accurate means to count my steps. My assumption was that buying a high-end fitbit product would give me the most accurate steps possible. Thus far this has not been the case. I do like the product for sleep tracking and for step tracking when I'm actually walking, however, I do not like that the product is so sensitive that it counts steps when I'm working at my desk, riding in the car, eating food etc. simply because my arms are moving. Basically it's oversensitive which makes it inaccurate. I've made adjustments to the product including trying the dominant and nondominant settings but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I've also started taking the surge off and putting it in my pocket sometimes during the day to minimize what I call the phantom steps however I sometimes forget to put it back on and thus miss heart rate readings.

This is a great tool for keeping exercise at the front of your mind. I think my favorite part is the vibrating alert for calls and messages from your iphone. I'm hard of hearing.

This is my favorite FitBit because I enjoy running. This is the only one that actually assists in my running and does what I need it to do. Great tracker with wonderful App.

Charging receptacle on watch Wares out quickly

I purchased my fit bit surge in February 2017 six month later the receptacle on the watch used for recharging the watch is worn out and it's extremely difficult to recharge the watch you have to spend a few minutes every time moving the connector until it starts charging, and at the slightest movement would disconnect.

This started out great. My wife loved it and it worked great. However, after a little less than 2 weeks, the screen stopped working. She can still track online, but the watch face failed.

Finally one that is water resistant. I have had several fitbits, but with heavy workouts & lots of BST "blood, sweat & tears" they don't hold up. I have high hopes for this one!

She already had one but it got damaged in the trip down to see her. So we purchased a new one for her. She loved her old one so we could not replace it since we broke it.
