||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this based on the reviews, however, coming from an Apple watch and trying out a watch to pair with my Pixel, this is more or less total garbage. The interface is painfully slow, the notifications for 2FA, etc require interaction with the phone as well. Battery life was ok... Watch often crashed and was a pain to setup. Unfortunately, wearOS has a LONG way to go, and the snapdragon processor is so far behind Apple's own Silicon, this is almost a joke. Despite being the best in an area of aweful smart watches, this is still total garbage.

||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Difficulty charging, more than half the time I put it on the charger it doesn't connect properly so it isn't charged when I need it. Even when it clicks in place it still doesn't charge sometimes! The circular sensors on the watch also pop out.

Disappointing purchase
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Broke after 21 days, just would not come on at all. It was almost as if it had never been charged or the battery died but the battery can’t be changed, it’s a part of the device. Looks great and made from great material worked perfectly but then died. Extremely disappointing!

Very stylish, feature rich watch!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The watch not only looks great but functions great too!The watch band is light, but still feels pretty strong. The metal itself doesn't twist or warp, when bending or pushing on the wrist band, but the links provide just enough maneuverability for everything to feel comfortable. The band can easily be removed from the watch, with the quick release pins located at both ends of the band. They are hidden well enough, so as they are not accidentally hit. Yet can easily be pinched together, to detach the band. There are a lot of different options through BestBuy or Fossil, for watch straps, and metal bands, if you wanted it to be more of a matching accessory for outfits. To shorten or lengthen the band, it is a little more difficult. The best option is to either take it to a watch repair store, or order a watch link removal kit. Otherwise it can be a pain in the buns to find the right width piece of metal to gently hammer through the links without slipping and damaging something. The link pins can be removed from either side, and re-assemble much easier than it is to get them out. Just as a side note, after the pin is removed, there is a tiny sleeve that will also fall out of the links, so make sure you keep track of both pieces. If you do decide to buy additional straps or bands, the watch faces can be changed by the included settings, or by downloading any watch face app from the google store.Because this watch is universal for both Android and iPhone, some additional apps may be needed to customize the features for looks, or functionality.I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 8, that most everything worked perfectly out of the box, except for my phone's alarm clock notifications. It just would not give me the option to cancel or snooze the alarms from my watch. After checking several different settings on the watch, and my phone, I confirmed that all the possible permissions were allowed, leaving no reason this should not work. However, it still did not work. The fix for this was simple enough, I had to download to my Note 8 the "Alarm Clock, by Google Inc.", once I did, and re-entered my alarms, everything worked perfectly. This smartwatch has pretty much every feature available, except a camera. It has it's own built in GPS, WIFI card, Bluetooth, speaker, microphone, heart beat sensor, fit tracker and high definition display. The watch is water resistant to about 30 meters (3 ATM), so it should be fine for light swimming, and washing. One of the cooler features of the watch is it's NFC technology, giving you Google Pay, directly from your wrist. This watch pretty much does it all, giving you almost no reason to ever take your phone out of your pocket. Google assistant can be triggered easily through the microphone or one of the buttons. You can send texts and call contacts directly from the assistant, as well as search google for anything you need. The touch screen is pretty accurate and responsive. The watch face glass itself is a mineral crystal like most traditional watches. While mineral crystal is fairly good with impacts, it is still pretty easy to scratch, so one more recommendation would be to get a good screen protector (44mm).During my use, I kept the always on display (active), and set the heart beat tracker to activate every 5 minutes. On a full charge the watch was able to last all day. It even has three built in battery saver modes, that could extend the life of the watch for a few days. It will even fast charge to 80% in an hour, if you forget to plug it in before you go to bed.The music controls work pretty good, especially with Spotify, Pandora, Soundcloud, Google Play, iTunes or Apple Music. Plus, the watch even has it's own storage(8GB), for downloading music, or other data. The watch can be used to make calls, directly from the dial, using it's built in speakers and microphone. The audio actually comes through very clear on both ends of the call. I have been able to use the watch's speakers for calls that I make or answer directly from the watch dial, but so far, not from the phone. I have been unable to transfer the audio to the watch after using the actual phone to initiate or answer calls, I'm not sure if this a Samsung issue, or not, but it would be nice to see this feature in an upcoming software upgrade. So far the watch has been very fun, and extremely convenient to use. I love reading and answering all my texts, from my wrist. It's also another huge plus, to have a hands free speakerphone for calls available all the time. Google assistant helps fill in some of the blanks while using the watch. The keyboard works well on the watch, but I do have man hands, and sometimes press the wrong letters. With the assistant, you can dictate what you would like typed instead of actually typing it. Google Assistant also makes it easier to find contacts, dial numbers , get directions, set alarms, reminders, and calendar events.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This watch was not compitable with my phone. It overheated and wouldnt connet to my phone. Classy, customizable hardware buttons, Google Pay.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The good: - The build quality on this excellent. - The watch looks and feels so classy. - Beautiful display, - The in-watch speaker is surprisingly loud and clear -- I was impressed. - Two customizable hardware buttons. - Easily customizable software links on the default watch face. - Supports Google Pay. - Cardiogram reports, and Noonlight personal safety software. The not so good: - Watches like this should include a simple tool for removing links to adjust the size. I ended up being able to do so with a very small nail and a pair of pliers but it was more of a hassle than it should’ve been. - In common outdoor lighting notification text is washed-out and can be a challenge to read. Highlights: - The watch needed several updates out of the box, I’d advise installing ALL updates first before doing any customization to the watch. This may be why I initially had some clock/alarm sync issues the first couple of days (see last point) - I’m replacing an older 1st Gen Huawei Watch and this Fossil Gen 5 Carlyle makes a really nice upgrade. The watch face is large and easy to read almost everywhere except outdoors in some cases. I love the Google Pay integration, that I can often pay without even taking my phone out of my pocket. - There are 2 customizable hardware buttons that can be set to pretty much any application to which you want speedy access. I personally set one to Google Pay and the other to Flashlight as those are the things I found myself wanting to get to in a pinch without having to fiddle with any other menus. - The only issue I had is that for the first 2-days this watch was out of sync with my phone alarms. Meaning, the alarm I set on my phone (default Google Clock, nothing special) would go off but the watch didn’t react at all, so I had to keep reaching for my phone to snooze/dismiss alarms. All other apps were triggering on the watch as expected, just not Clock (even though it was notification-enabled). I can’t be certain exactly what fixed it but the steps I took were (on the watch) to clear the Clock app data and cache, and (on my phone) I toggled Clock notifications off/on in Wear OS, and deleted/recreated all my alarms in Clock. At some point on the 3rd day the watch finally started triggering alongside the phone alarms so that I could snooze/dismiss them from either device.

Stainless Steel Smart Watch That Does What You Wan
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Fossil Gen 5 smart watch is a watch that serves whatever purpose you need from a smart watch. You can get notifications from emails to text messages. Receive phone calls. Track activity and heart rate. You can even tell time with it with it's always on display. Right out of the box I knew I had to make an adjustment to the band. I had a small precision driver kit that I used to remove some links. All in all, I took out 5 links which wasn’t hard to do as long as you have something small enough to punch out the pins. After putting it back together the watch fits perfectly. Setup was quick and with little effort. I, like many, already had a google account so that made things a bit easier and syncing to my iPhone through the WearOS app was painless. Just a few swipes and allowing access to contacts and apps on my phone, I was in. The software is mostly based on swiping and the use of the crown. I didn’t find myself really using the other two buttons that often, although they can be assigned to open apps you use frequently. The touch controls are pretty easy to use and get used to. The screen colors are bright and sharp enough to see in bright daylight. Notifications work really well on this device. I noticed they were very timely and easy to see at a glance. A few lines of an email or text message gave me just enough information to decide whether I needed to pull my phone out a for a full-blown conversation, or if it needed to wait until a more appropriate setting to respond. One of my favorite things about the watch is the power modes you can choose from. If your going out and you just want a stylish time piece, you can turn on the time only power mode where the watch will only show the time when you press the digital crown. The battery life on the time only mode is easily a couple days and I use more often on the weekends when I’m more social and just want a nice-looking watch when going out. The few downsides to this device are battery life when using the full suite of features and Bluetooth interference when making phone calls. I noticed when using my headset in the car I get a lot of interference and static sound when I’m wearing the Fossil watch and it’s connected to my phone. When I place the watch in airplane mode, the interference goes away. This could be just my unique setup or headset that has this issue but may cause a problem for some. Also, the battery life is nearly all day when using all the features on the phone such as sound, notifications, heart rate monitor, always on display, etc. Switching to extended battery, time only, or custom settings is easy enough, and I do feel like it “Should” be low on battery by the end of the day, I do find myself throwing it on time only mode towards the end of the day just to keep it from going dead. All in all, the Fossil Gen 5 is a very nice looking smart watch. If you like google assistant, tracking heart rate and work outs, getting notifications and phone calls, or just enjoy a nice looking wrist piece that tells time, this checks all the boxes and does it while looking like a luxury item and not an electronic. You may just need to keep the charger close by if you plan on wearing it all day and being out late.

The best Android Wear SmartWatch there is.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is quite a step or maybe leap forward for Fossil. My old watch which I still have is a QR Explorist and there’s nothing wrong with and it still works well, but the new Carlyle HR builds upon it. In my 10 days or so with the watch, I can say it improves on every aspect of the Explorist. The biggest thing I want to touch on for this review is battery life. This was something the Explorist did just okay with. Always on was a feature on that watch, but if enabled, battery life was largely reduced. You might see say, 4-6 hours of life which isn’t near enough for a work day or let alone one and a workout after or before. Without that Always On feature you could expect about 8-10 hours which is just good enough. That said, the Carlyle HR surpasses this by a light year. I’ve not tested it with the Always On mode off, but if you have it off, I would guess you can get a solid day 12-18 hours maybe even more in between charges. With Always On mode enabled, I’m seeing coming off an overnight charge around 12 hours with around 60-70% battery remaining. That’s quite astonishing and puts it right up there with another non-Android based competitor. Now performance wise, again, this surpasses my old watch. Everything is so smooth and there’s little to no lag at all. With my old one it would get laggy switching from screen to screen. That’s not an issue here at all. Everything is snappy and fluid. I’ve not tested the calls on it, this can reduce battery life according to the prompt so I’ve kept it off. Google Assistant does work well on it and the volume is adequate. The Display is much improved. It’s brighter and I’m not entirely certain of the resolution compared to the Explorist, but everything is definitely sharper and cleaner looking. There’s plenty of information that can fit on the screen at any given time which is incredibly helpful, especially compared to the limited space on the Explorist. The watch faces are neat and some are very informative with little bits of info such as heart rate and daily activity. One of the nicest things I appreciate about the Always On mode is that it works with your chosen watch face. As soon as you tap it, everything reappears with the hour marks and clock hands. It’s really one of those little things that makes a big impact in usability. Ironically given that this watch is 1mm smaller, 44mm versus the 45mm Explorist, it’s a lot lighter and seems larger. The watch band is about a link smaller than my previous one but it’s not tight, it’s almost a perfect fit. The watch body itself is much sleeker, less sporty and classier which I’m really liking. I think Fossil really nailed it with the design. If you’re in the market for a new Android Wear based Smart Watch, this is arguably the best one you can buy right now. You’re getting a lot for the price and really, you’re going to be hard pressed to find something better right now for everyday use that doesn’t look or feel cheap. These remind me of the old Moto 360 watches but more refined and with modern features. Just go get one, you won’t regret it.
