I have been using another brand of smartwatch and was happy with it. I received the Fossil Smartwatch and have been very happy with it. It took a little while to get used to some of the features, but I really like the slightly larger face and the way the notifications come up. I was a little disappointed with the number of faces available, but have started to settle on one or two that seem to do what I like. The watch feels very good on my wrist, with just the right amount of mass. I had a bit of a time getting the band resized, the pins took much more force than other bands I have worked with and the arrows pointing in both directions didn't help direct my efforts! I did finally get it done after grinding a punch down to the right size. In the end, I have it adjusted and it feels very comfortable. I am still getting used to the buttons and features, but I am very happy with the watch and it stays connected all the time, unlike my old watch. It seems like everything about the watch is customizable, with so many ways to configure everything. Just when I think I have it set the way I want, I find another little tweak I can make that makes it even better! I have heard of the Fossil brand for some time, but never thought I would have one myself. I was afraid they might be over-rated like so many things are these days, but I am very happy with the quality and detail of this watch. I would have no problem recommending this watch to anyone who wants a really nice tool that pairs with a phone really well. I find it allows me to keep my phone stashed much more often than I used to with its easy to read display and other features.

Looks nice, functions terribly with iPhone

Aesthetically this is a really nice looking watch. However the performance is still sub par, at best, which is quite disappointing. I own a Gen 4 Apple Watch as well as this Fossil Gen 5 watch. The Apple watch is pretty much spot on in every aspect. It syncs well, great battery life, and syncs with everything on my iPhone (as it naturally should). Pretty hard to beat so I wasn’t expecting too much from this Fossil watch….and I wasn’t disappointed. I really dig the look of this watch without question. Its smoke tint offers a really nice aesthetic to the watch. The only thing I don’t really like about my Apple watch is that it doesn’t really look like a watch. I prefer the circular look of a watch and this Fossil watch is spot on in that respect. So +1 to the Fossil for visual appeal. Unfortunately, that’s pretty much where the praise stops. As far as syncing, it does basic syncing with my iPhone. However, it doesn’t always work. For instance, I will get a notification that I received a text on the watch. If there is a quick follow up text afterwards, I may/may not get the notification. The lag when swiping on the watch is down right irritating. Sometimes it’ll work, other times it’ll tell me to swipe again or in another direction. Sometimes, when pressing icons, it’ll lag and then I’ll hit another icon and the first icon I pressed will launch. Battery life is meh. I can get about 2 days on my Apple watch without recharging whereas this Fossil watch might get about 10-12 hours. Considering this is a 5th gen device, one would think they would’ve worked out all the kinks in WearOS but clearly this is not the case. Granted, I am pairing this WearOS watch with my iPhone so there may be something to that. Perhaps this watch would work better with an Android watch. If that’s the case then this should really be marketed for Android devices and not “compatible with iOS”. I’m hoping that there will be an update in the near future that will address some of these issues however, having been a previous Android phone user, I’m not holding my breath. For now, this watch looks pretty cool however its functionality could use a HUGE boost in consistency.

I was worried the watch would get hot on my wrist, but it's very comfortable. The face is big enough to read but not big enough to type. The microphone is very sensitive, which is good. The speaker could stand to be louder, but it's not a big deal. It's not like the primary means of phone calls is going through the watch. The face of the watches suggests changes with the seasons, which is cool. I like the different generic faces I can select from. I had to go to a watch store to get the watch fitted to my wrist. Easy to pair with my phone and Google Assistant/Google Pay NFC built-in.

First off this is great looking watch for professional or formal events. I really like it. Still getting use to the apps on the watch but works well. Battery life last about 2 days for me normal usage. (pretty standard for all smart watches) There are options to extend the battery but I have used it yet. I can’t see myself working out or being active with this watch on. I feel like the metal band will scratch.

Good looking watch. Bought it because of the metal band and modest look. Not flashy. Has numerous functions but definitely not a smart watch like apple or samsung. Disappointed that the battery stopped holding a charge right after the 2 year geek squad warranty

So I purchased this Fossil Gen 5 44mm Smoke Stainless Steel version, The watch has Ware OS integrated by Google I really like it if you have a Stock Google Phone it works really Nice, I gave it a 4 Star Because of the Battery, My only drawback was the Battery, you have to charge it daily when using every feature enable, but you have the choice to change the battery power option, the good thing is that it charges very fast from 15% to 80% like in 40 minutes. And if you have NEST Camera you will get still images photos on your wearable device unlike Samsung Active 2, I have both Smartwatch both smartwatch have their good and Bad. This Fossil Gen 5 is very stylish when you are dressed up, and Galaxy is more sport mode. Also I think I prefer Google Play Store, and the Built in Keyboard.

I purchased this watch as an upgrade to a previous generation Android WearOS smartwatch, and I am very disappointed. I cannot call it an upgrade, but just a future proof increase of hardware and software for the time being. The screen size is abysmal compared to the body, especially since you loose a few mm for the ring around the screen. The brightness is much less than other smartwatches and the auto-brightness feature is overly conservative, even in direct sunlight. The battery life is ok at best. you can get 1 day out of it with the custom battery mode, but by the next morning it will need a recharge (again, previous gen Android WearOS smartwatch with always on display had better battery life). The charging is ok, somtimes it gets stuck at 99% and only shows 100% when you take it off the charger. The worst part however is after only 2 months of normal use, it died. Will not charge, will not power on, no response at all.

I love my Fossil smartwatch. It's stylish and works great. There are also lots of accessories available for it both 1st and 3rd party ones. I only wish there was an easier way to create custom watch faces.

Wear OS a let down, watch strap too small

The last smartwatch I had was the Samsung Gear Live in 2014 with Android Wear. In the 6 years that have passed Google hasn't made any meaningful upgrades to their platform. It is still slow, buggy, and struggling to find a solid use case on my wrist. Setting up the watch took about 15 minutes, but waiting for it to update all of the apps I never asked for and install system updates took the better part of 4 hours because even though I had turned on WiFi it was still trying to use Bluetooth from my phone to slowly acquire everything. A Reddit post finally pointed me towards disabling Bluetooth and restarting the watch and wouldn't you know, it finally used WiFi and took a little under 10 minutes finish the rest. By then the watch had been drained from 100% to under 20% just from its initial setup. After charging for another hour to get back to 100% I could finally see what all the fuss was about and I was not impressed. I bought the watch with three use cases in mind: one; get Google Authenticator codes faster, two; use Google Pay, and three; start my music from my wrist without touching my phone while driving. Google Pay was cumbersome and took me nearly 20 minutes from start to finish to add 2 cards. Google Assistant is a joke and is utterly imbecilic. It utterly failed at launching music from my phone because I don't use one of the apps in the Google walled-garden and Assistant has no idea how to help me. Even when it might have a chance at figuring it out it often failed to connect to Google's servers to process my voice input and recognize what I said. The only thing that worked well was Google Authenticator. I thought I was going to give this a go for a week to see if I liked it but I am so utterly disappointed in Wear OS after just one day that I'm calling it quits and returning it. As for the Fossil branding and styling, it was a really well designed watch with a thin watch body and nice materials. However, the watch band was very tight and barely fit my wrist using the last notch on the band. I know the watch straps are easy to replace, but after my disappointment with the OS it just isn't worth the hassle of paying any more money to fix it.

I thought I was just not used to the interface at first, but after using this watch for two weeks I've concluded it doesn't hold up to my needs. The goal was to record exercises and navigate easier/safer while biking. However, I constantly forget to check if the GPS is turned on (depends on battery settings) before starting my activity. If not turned on, no data is recorded. Also, it requires quite many steps to turn it on manually if wrong battery setting is on. I also found out that navigation only works if paired with an Android phone. I have an iPhone... Built-in stuff (sleep monitoring, step counter, and heart rate stuff) that I wasn't looking for but could make up for the loss of the features I wanted don't work well either. The watch says I've been awake half the night when I've slept well and as soon as I move too quickly it stops measuring the heart rate. If I could I would return this watch. I thought I'd done my research before buying this, but apparently not well enough.

On the plus side, this is one of the more stylish/traditional watch style smart watches I have seen - the positives, however, stop there. I found the battery life to be atrocious and Wear OS feels laggy and disjointed (especially coming from an Apple Watch). Perhaps I received a bad unit, but I would have a hard time recommending this watch to anyone.
