Very solid watch. Considering it is running the Google Wear OS, the majority of the underpinnings are the same across the board. You will have some slight appearance tweaks and minor proprietary things here and there between the different offerings, but for the most part a Goggle/Android watch is running similar software. In that regard it is great. Google Wear (and it's constantly being updated) is a great OS. This will also pair with Apple, but it definitely a Google/Android meant device. The physical watch itself is a quality piece and feels pretty close to it's $249.99 msrp asking price. The only thing that isn't all that great in this regard is the band/strap. These rubberized straps should not be commanding an identical asking price to the alternatives. Luckily (even though it does cost more money) there are plenty of offerings from 3rd parties (and Fossil themselves) if you want something that is a different color/pattern/material. This is exactly what I did, and it makes the whole watch feel so much nicer, all for ~$10 more. To sum up what I've seen other reviews state on the positives and that of my own experience; this is a great watch that performs and does what you want/need it to do. So why only 3 stars? BATTERY! I have had nearly a dozen smartwatches over the last 5-6 years. Some are more catered towards running others casual wear, and others hiking/outdoor activities. All, even those that are multiple years old, have a *much* better battery life than this does. Expect to charge it every single night at a minimal if you wear it and do activity logging every day. I searched high and low and found multiple posts/forums online where wearers have tried tweaking their settings to improve battery life. Some are able to, most are not. I followed the settings used by others and have yet to find the perfect combination of notification/audio/brightness/etc etc etc to achieve 24-36+ hour battery life. If you are OK with this fact and can find it on sale, go ahead and snag it, it really is a good watch that looks just different enough if you have a petite wrist and want something that is going to do just about everything you could ask for in a modern smartwatch. If you want something that you put on your wrist and it stays there only to be taken off once/twice a week for charging; look elsewhere. This won't even come close to those numbers. Having said all that, still going to recommend it, but only with a strong asterisk on that battery complaint.

The Fossil Gen 5E Smartwatch is a great watch. Here’s what it can do…EVERYTHING. - Tracks: Step tracker, sleep tracker, heartrate monitor - Notifications: provide notifications for both text and emails and can read both on the phone. - Built in speaker for phone calls. I spoke into the speaker with a normal voice and had a conversion and was able to hear the call through the speaker as well. - Four different battery options to adjust how much battery is used during the day. - Fully charged in about an hour on the charger. Now, while it does all these great things, here are my gripes: - While the watch connects to an iPhone, it does appear as if the watch is more setup for an Android phone, or if you use Google. Google Pay is the only paying system the watch can use. - The battery is still too short despite the battery settings. Also, when you put on watch on the charger, the watch constantly lost connection with the iPhone and had to be synced each time after charging. - The watch only allows you to add five apps, so you have to choose with five apps you think you’ll use the most on the watch, or you will have to swap apps on and off at times. In addition to that, using the apps does eat into the battery life. Basically…first world problems. So yes, I do recommend the Fossil Smartwatch. It looks great and it does a lot. Just mentally be prepared for first world inconveniences.

First, the physical. I got the woman's watch which has a pink wristband. It is a pale pink and blends well with my skin tone so it looks more flesh color when I wear it. It matched everything I wore. The face is very pretty and you can change the background to match your mood. While I usually keep it simple, I did change it a few times to reflect life at the moment. It was fun. The face is big, which is needed, just as any sport watch is, That's taken me some time to get used to but except for a few times, it was fine. I have a big wrist bone so figured I may have to get a different watchband but this one fit without being uncomfortable. So the overall appearance is one where it will adapt to the occasion - workout, work or evening out. I figure most reviews will focus on the sport side of things so I thought I'd focus on something different. This watch has a speaker and will beep notifications to you when you sync it to your phone. The volume is adjustable and the sound is adequate. I'd prefer if it was louder but I have old ears though, on high, I had no problem hearing it. It will find your phone which is a great feature for those who tend to put down their phone and forget where they put it. The heart rate monitor is great. While most would probably use it to be sure they are exercising optimally, I found it useful to be sure I don't overdo it and know when it is time to take a break. My favorite feature though, is the breathing app. I had my child use it when they started having an anxiety attack and it brought her down, helping her to regulate her breathing and start to do the exercises she's been taught. Needless to say, Santa will be picking one up for her this Christmas. I'm very impressed with this watch and I'm still learning more about it every day.

Solid Wear OS, good value SmartWatch

This Fossil watch is here to prove that you don't need an apple watch to have a worthwhile smartwatch experience. Running Google's Wear OS, the software has apparently improved a bunch in the last 2 years and if we're treating apple's WatchOS like the gold standard, then this is getting very very close. This watch feels well made, but the band is not necessarily my favorite. This is one area where the ubiquity of the apple watch comes into play - there are replacement bands for the fossil, but neither are they as cheap, or as easy to swap. At least you have the option, however. This watch also seemed just a tag laggy at times, perhaps struggling to keep up with Wear OS. Most of the rest of the experience is dependent upon the software itself and that delivers. Lots of options for widgets, watch face displays, and alert options. I found the app for connecting to my watch quite easy to navigate. Most of the customization is done on the watch itself using the app store. Overall this is a well-made alternative to other smartwatches with decent battery life and construction. If you're anti apple or just looking to stand out, this is for you.

You don't think you need a smart watch til you try one. It is so nice to be able to see your notifications quick, right on your wrist. This watch is nice and snappy, haven't noticed any lag yet. It's very nice having the amoled screen, looks amazing, nice and sharp. That said, it is small. The actual screen size to watch size is odd. There is a big black border around the screen that shouldn't be there. My old watch had edge to edge screen I miss very much. There are usually sensors there but not on this watch. It really needs a light sensor. Having to adjust it all the time is inconvenient. Also way too bright at night. Battery life is pretty lacking also. If you have it set to use full functionality(why wouldn't you) I get about 14 hours. Make sure you charge it around dinner time if you want it to track your sleep. At least it does charge in a little over an hour, however I do prefer the wireless charging of my old watch. I like that it has a speaker built in but it doesn't get very loud. The NFC is nice so you don't have to dig out your phone. (I wish more places would accept the Google pay.) I wouldn't consider the 249 price in the affordable arena, especially with all this watch lacks. This is a nice watch, I'm just not overly impressed with it.
