Not sure if it is doing this just to test the air temperature or not. I've noticed however that if not using the remote sense it will not cool the room as well. With the AC set to 69, the remote was still reading 78 only about 5 feet away. Turning on remote sense it instantly started cooling again. Overall it is mainly used for the bedroom and will certainly make it cold if the remote is left on the opposite side of the room.
