Didn't work
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Can't say much about this unit. Badly needed air as mine stopped working. Purchased, picked up and installed by my brother-one-law. Knew to wait for compressor to work I if conditioner was jiggled during installation. Middle of night turned on. Fan worked great, however, cold air never came on. It was 87 outside. 90 inside. Needless to say it was returned the next day.

First impression: Excellent!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just installed this A/C. I immediately liked the way the box comes apart so you don't have to try to lift the unit out of the box. It was easy to install and it seems to work very well. I have noticed that in Economy mode (the only mode I've tried so far), when I set the A/C to 72, it cut off when my indoor thermometer read 74, and when I lowered the setting to 70, it cuts off when my thermometer reads between 71.5 and 72. That's not a deal breaker for me, as long as it is consistent. Also, the Energy Star label that came with it says Canada at the top instead of U.S. (FWIW). I think it's great that the unit comes with the side "accordion" panels for window installation, as well as an insulation kit to keep outside air from leaking in. I noticed that the product description says "Auto-fan feature - Enables continuous air circulation, so the room doesn't feel stuffy or stale." I don't think that's accurate. The auto-fan feature controls the fan speed, so when the room is really warm, it starts the fan at the high setting, and after it has cooled off and the unit is maintaining the temperature, the fan switches to a lower speed setting. When the unit is not cooling the room, the fan shuts off. It does not make the fan run continuously as the product listing would have you believe. I hope my opinion of this A/C does not change over time but my first impression is that it is excellent.

Good Value & Features
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Small extra features that you may not think that important when shopping, but do add up to a lot of convenience oriented things that you would miss once you have had them. 3 fan speeds that can be manually picked, or "auto" which adjusts the fan speed according to temperature and function. Select Fan, Cool, or Econ Cool which will turn fan off when compressor shuts off, and then every 10 minutes runs long enough to sample the air temp and decide whether to run the fan and compressor together. You can recycle room air, vent, or get fresh air. A little remote unit duplicates all function controls and also can be used as a remote temp. sensor away from the unit. The timer can be set to turn the unit on before you get home, or to let it run for a period of time and then shut off. A little light that will come on to remind you to clean the filter. But the best, small detail is the provision of foamcore panels that you can cut to size for your installation, to cover up the ugly accordion side panels that fill in the window on each side of the A/C. Provides insulation, provides a seal and looks so much better. Only quibble is the level of sound generated, but it is no louder than comparable units, and in fact on the low side (still too much for me). Time will tell how it holds up (I have been unlucky, with about a 3 year cycle before units reduce or stop cooling). So far, highly pleased with this feature rich, efficient unit.

Leary of reviews
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read reviews but take them with a grain of salt and this is the first time writing one. I bought this unit 24 hours ago to cool a living room/dining room area about 500 sq.ft. We have picture windows with narrow double hungs on either side in both rooms. My opening is 19 1/4". The AC is 19". I decided to chance it figuring I could install it without the side accordions. Well it just made it and I sealed it with temporary weatherstrip caulking that comes on a roll (Mortite). Peels off when you are done. Previously, because the windows were too narrow for a large enough unit we had one of those portable stand up units that ducted out the window. It helped but the noise was far too much to deal with because the whole unit sits in the house instead of outside the window. This unit puts that one to shame. We are in a heat wave like most right now (Southeast New England - 85 - 94 - near the water) with high humidity. I felt like I was taking a gamble whether or not this would handle the area. It is longer than wide and the AC is at the far end away from the living room and TV. I am very surprised and very comfortable with the comfortably cooling this unit is providing. Others complained about high ceilings and noise. I have normal 8' ceilings and sitting about 20 feet away from the unit - comfortable as can be in jeans. This is well worth what I consider the cheap price considering I spent over $500.00 for the portable that is now retired. Well done Frigidaire!

I can tolerate the basement now
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Connecticut Summers=HHH. Hazy, Hot and Humid. Divorced and living in a basement was coming 'home' to something even worse than my previous living situation. Luckily, this AC made the entire living space 24x40 livable. Installed just in time for yesterdays afternoon thunderstorm and inevitable steam bath. After cursing the day I was born when I first got it home and found it wouldnt fit in my brand new window (only a 13" opening vertically) I realized I could pop out the lower pane of the double hung and squeeze this bad boy in. Measure your window openings!! Within about 10 minutes, I was kicking back, enjoying the evening in a nice cool, dry, sanctuary. It is a little loud, but it really pushes the air far into the dark corners of my cave and cools it off.

Does the job well...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very happy with this model. I may be asking a bit much of it to cool down, in effect 3 rooms (open floor plan), but it does a decent job of providing relief during these muggy NYC heat waves. Runs a bit on the loud side. Also, the dimensions provided don't seem to take into account the side flaps, so be sure to measure a few extra inches on both sides. I did appreciate the insulation material that came with the unit.

Real good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Almost bought the 15k btu unit but would've had to have it shipped. So happy I bought this instead, saved some cash and works great. Installed it on a horizontal window which costed about 40$ for wood and plexi glass but I live in a very safe area. Great ac cooled my house from 82 to 70 within an hour. I have a bi level and bottom floor is about 550 sq ft, works great for the bottom floor. We will see when Michigan July hits with about 95, pretty confident it can handle it. Not super loud for owning a basic sound bar but definitely has noise compared to central air.

Less than a 40 year old AC unit
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am using my 40 year old window AC unit of 6K BTU that this 12K unit replaces as a comparison. The fan is noisy, even on low. The little circular left & right direction vanes are ornate, but useless (It still blows straight ahead). In Eco Mode: The temperature at which it is set can be off as much as 5 degrees (set 72, it varies between 74-77 degrees. Used 3 same reading thermometers to confirm). Cool Mode (in MI): Can increase the humidity 2%, and decrease the temperature 1 degree (approximate ratio), compared to the Eco Mode. Overall, in Eco Mode it can cool as well as the old unit did before it failed. The bottom of the unit is not flat, making contact on support brackets marginal without modification. There are no drain holes in the side, so water often accumulates and is splashed by the fan, making an annoying sound. The outside vents are large and open, not louvered, and will overflow the inside when it rains. Also, I did not have small flying insects getting into my house before this unit was installed. The remote is handy and works well.

fits smaller window
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In addition to all the other positives, this unit will nicely fit a 21 inch wide opening with a slight modification. You need to detach the inside edge of the "accordion" material from the plastic frame, which is easily done by hand. This will allow the side frames to close far enough to fit the unit into a 21 inch window opening and still use the side frame to help seal the unit in the window opening. This was perfect for my installation into a nominal 24 inch wide aluminum window. If you eliminate using the side frame, it will go down to 19 1/2 inches wide. I suggest picking one up at Best Buy rather than having it delivered. Our first unit was ordered on line for free delivery. It arrived damaged, so we returned it to our local store. They replaced it and even gave us a better price as it had just gone on sale.

The customer reviews help me to decide.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a very large living room and kitchen.. This 12,000 BTU air conditioner cools the entire area with no problem on medium speed. During the heat wave days I truly was impressed with this unit on high. , It was actually cold ! Thumbs up Frigidaire !

Cools good, is very loud!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this unit a month ago. It seems to cool okay for the few times that I have used it. My complaint is that it is very loud compared to my old Panasonic A/C. Even on low fan speed, it seem extremely loud. There isn't much difference in the decibel level between high and low fan speeds. Had I known about this, I may have considered another, quieter brand.

Brrrrrrrr! Baby it's cold inside!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am totally happy with the cooling power of this model. It cools both the dining and living rooms even though a partial wall separates both rooms. In fact, it's too cold at the lowest setting so I keep it at 67, give or take. The remote is line of site, so I don't use it, would have been nice if it was RF but at least I am no longer opressed by heat and humidity.
