Neat, but more of a collector's item

A neat, well-built device with some fun nostalgia. I think it makes more sense as a collector's piece than an actual value - there are so many ways to play Super Mario Bros 1 and Lost Levels, including on Switch Online or the virtual consoles of any number of Nintendo's past offerings. I also think a big opportunity was missed to include the actual Super Mario Bros Game & Watch game - which in many ways was the most ambitious and most impressive Game & Watch title - rather than the reskinned version of Ball that is included. The presentation and packaging is very nice, but it feels a few steps away from being as neat as it could have been for Game & Watch fans.

An neat little thing. Feels premium, with a solid build and packaging that oozes charm. The games are stretched to 4:3 and that can't be adjusted, which I don't like, but the picture quality itself is good enough that it's not an issue at all. It's nice and crisp. But it should be noted that it's a collectible first and a way to play games second. It doesn't hold its value if you look at it as a portable gaming console, but as a novelty for Mario enthusiasts it's great. The lack of a stand is a bit disappointing as well but it's a minor issue all things considered.

Amazing piece of nostalgia in looks but smoothly plays Super Mario bros, from the packaging to the device itself is excellent. The feel of the device itself is well built and solid, it brings back memories of the original device I had. The gameplay is very smooth and I can see everything on the screen, its a portable device so you buy it accepting the screen size.

A fantastic recreation of the Game & Watch handhelds, right down to the cardboard packaging and manual! The included games are great selections and they play beautifully on the full-color LCD screen. True to the Game & Watch legacy, there is also a functional clock which is themed very cleverly to Super Mario Bros. Definitely a fantastic item (with great value) for any Nintendo fan!

You get Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Bros 2 (Japan version). Lots of fun to be able to pick up and play quick. Screen is vibrant and clear. Screen is small if you are used to playing 3DS or Switch in hand held mode, but you get used to it quick. Light weight and fits in your pocket better than your phone. A little pricey, but that’s Nintendo for you.

This product was very small, a cellphone has a bigger screen. I do think it was overpriced because its old school Mario. With that being said, my daughter loves it and it’s easy to bring everywhere. She also has a 3ds but I think this is low maintenance so it stays charged longer. I only give it 5 stars because we do get plenty of use from it.

The Game and Watch: Super Mario Bros system was made to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the Super Mario Bros game on NES. But I feel they also tried to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Game and Watch with this release as well. The console includes the NES versions of Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels (Known as Super Mario Bros 2 in Japan and on this Game and Watch system) as well as a version of the first ever Game and Watch game, Ball, with Mario as the player character. The Game and Watch also functions as a clock, and the clock feature has 35 secrets to find. The games also have little secrets as well, such as a new Infinite Lives mode in Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Bros 2 (The Lost Levels) and a way to play as Luigi in Ball. Overall the system is a neat collectible but isn’t necessary to own for the average fan of Mario. You can play Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Bros 2 (The Lost Levels) on Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo Switch Online service. It’s also a little pricy at $50.

It's pretty cool to have this old school like device in my hands. A little pricey but definitely a collectors item. Long battery life and very small size that easily fits in your pocket. I found it best used for when having down time for a few minutes since it saves your place during gameplay.

    Truly A Blast-From-The-Past

OVERALL DESCRIPTION: Fantastic recreation of the original console, is fun to use, and a fantastic time killer. I recommend it for anybody who wants to experience one of Mario's first adventures on Nintendo's first handheld. THE GOOD (THINGS I LIKE): - Great Screen Quality: The screen is very clear, is bright enough, and has vibrant colors. Who could ask for anything more? - Great Emulation: The games are emulated very well. It genuinely feels like I am playing on an NES. - Easy To Use: All the buttons are clearly labeled, making it easy to navigate the device. - Suspending Games: I love how you can suspend any mode and return to it at any time. - Battery: The console has a great battery as far as I can tell. I was able to play the console for about an hour and a half without even using 1/4 of the battery. THE BAD (THINGS I DON'T LIKE): - Bad Speaker Placement: The speaker hole is located on the left side of the console, and I constantly find myself accidentally covering it up during gameplay. - Short Charging Cable: The charging cable is very, very short (I'd say about 3"), which is very inconvenient if you use a charging brick to charge the console. THE UGLY (THINGS I DON'T LIKE, BUT I FEEL SHOULDN'T BE HELD AGAINST THE CONSOLE): - No Kickstand: I never owned an original Game and Watch, but from what I've heard, the originals have kickstands. I feel this is a missed opportunity for this console, as this console is a way better clock than any previous model. - Doesn't Sleep While Charging: I accidentally left the console on all night because it doesn't go into sleep mode while charging, which might cause screen burn-in if you left the console on a pause menu. (It is still possible to manually power off the device after plugging it in using the power button on the side of the console.)

An effective homage to Mario and the Game & Watch.

The Mario 35th Anniversary Game & Watch is effectively a compact yet bountiful homage to the original Game & Watch system. The device is a lot smaller than the photos suggest, yet it does not hinder the enjoyment of the device. The LED screen looks very nice, the speaker plays loudly and accurately, and the controls feel very clean. This device has many hidden features and Easter eggs too. As a hint: If you hold the ‘A’ button down for 5 seconds when starting a play session on the original Super Mario game, you will obtain infinite lives. These kinds of details are what draws Nintendo fans like me to relish in their rich history throughout gaming. For any fan looking to add to their collection, here is your gateway drug. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

One of the nicest collectibles for those wanting some nostalgia for the original Super Mario Bros. Well built and love the fact that you charge it via type c. Screen is super clear. I guess my only complaint would be that it's fairly small for someone with big hands.

As soon as I saw this was announced from Nintendo, I knew that I had to have it because I am a long time fan and also had 1-2 Game & Watches growing up. This modern version ditches the button cell batteries for a rechargeable one via USB-C. The speaker is loud and crisp and the display is quite nice to display the 8 bit graphics we are all fond of. The D-pad feels as good as you would expect from the company and for the form factor, and overall the device has a solid build quality. It feels good in your hand and is fairly easy to handle and play. Only downside is that there are a small set of games included; I feel that this device would have been worth the price of admission had they included SMB3. That would have completed the package in my opinion, but otherwise this is a great collectible for all Nintendo fans!

Is smaller and lighter than I expected. Is pretty convenient if you're just needing to play a classic game on the go. Includes a clock. After March 2021, it stops shipping to stores so get it now while you still can.

Nintendo channels it's legacy with a perfect stocking stuffer. You can be assured of high quality product here along with amazing packaging. It comes with 3 games and has manual options for volume and screen brightness. It also uses USB-C for recharging the unit and has a battery indicator on the screen. The clock itself has Easter eggs that many Nintendo fans will enjoy. In addition, there is a secret on the clocks menu, where if you hold the A button, you will be taken to the "Drawing Mario Song", from Flipnote Studio 2010. The only thing missing was the kickstand like the original G&W had. Highly recommended and a good get for collectors.

I grew up borrowing Game & Watches from friends and played Super Mario Bros. with our first Nintendo System. This device had me nostalgic twice over in a single device. I guess Nintendo fans would purchase this as a collector's item (as I did). It doesn't offer much gaming wise. Build quality is good, sound can be loud (and annoying in Watch mode). Controls are small and uncomfortable after playing long hours. The screen is really small though -- but better compared to playing Lode Runner on an iPod Nano screen. If only Nintendo would offer uploading of other 8-bit games then this device would be a steal for its price.
