When it works its great, but sometimes after starting my car, my garmin will not turn ON if its already plug in. So i have to disconnect the 12v power supply and re-plug. Shame that someone almost hit me and only to realize that my garmin dash cam is off. I wish i could return this unit. Unplugging the system for 5 seconds and reconnecting 12v power always turns ON the system but its a shame i have to do it if it doesnt turn ON automatically after engine ignition.

No Audio? Garmin, what were you thinking?!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I'd ordered this directly from Garmin, and was happy to see it when it arrived. The mount is much improved. First of all, its much smaller than the suction cup mount you're used to, plus it's adhesive, so it won't be falling off if installed properly (they recommend letting the adhesive bind 24 hours before you place the camera). Day and night video are superb quality. Like its predecessors, it will automatically protect the video file if an impact is detected, and a manual file protection is also available if there's something you want to save but doesn't activate the G-sensor. The forward-collision warning is a fantastic addition, especially for someone I know who has a habit of following too closely. For the above: 5 stars.... However... Who decided there shouldn't be audio recording? Say you are making a turn, put your turn signal on, slow down, and get hit from behind. With no audio, it's still your word (that the blinker was on) against the other driver (who will say it wasn't). Audio recording should pick up the click from the turn signal. Was your kid distracted: singing along with her latest favorite song? Talking on the cell phone? Who knows? After a wreck, did the other driver run up and apologize and make a statement like "Sorry, it was all my fault... I should have... "? Disrespectful to the officer who pulled him over, jeopardizing his safety? No way to prove he was or wasn't. Garmin says the microphone was not included on the US version, but is available on the European version. Why, oh why? You really blew it with this, Garmin.

FIRST DAY AND I Am super impressed.

After reading mostly bad reviews on all the dash cams out there I was going to buy a GO pro hero 4 instead. Last minute i changed my mind and decided to try this new version of the Garmin after reviewing the Video, here are the PRos for my first day, picture quality is HD which you can clearly see license plates and street signs, amazingly easy setup takes less than a minute, it has crash detection warning very usefull and also mph and date. The only bad thing about this cam is the fact that it has no audio. I will be buying a second one and will update my review for long term use.

    No Audio???

Great picture quality even at night but there is no audio!!! Never heard of a dash cam with no audio. They should let you know that up front. The Garmin software to view the video downloaded easily onto windows 7 and worked well. However who wants a cash cam with no audio sound? It goes back to Best Buy tomorrow, and the hunt for decent dash cam will continue. ,

    Sweet camera

This is a nice camera. The 3" LCD screen is just the right size. It is packed with some nice features too. I especially like having the front collision warning. If I had to find a negative . It would be the fact that the "crosshairs" in the middle of the screen do not go away. Maybe they actually do and I haven't figured out how to make them go away. I find them very annoying after awhile.

    Works Great, Good Features

The settings are easy to change using the buttons on the camera as well as with the app using my iMac. The initial warning screens at power up are displayed for at least 15 seconds during which time the camera will not record any video. The crosshairs for aiming are unobtrusive and very helpful for properly aiming the camera. The 1080HD videos contain satellite coordinates, date, time and speed at the bottom which are clearly visible when viewed on a computer but are not so legible on the 3" display. While it is true that there is no sound recording on the videos there is no claim on the packaging that makes the assertion that it records sound. The videos can be viewed on a computer in 60 second segments or in 15 minute or longer segments. Knowing the time that an event occurred makes it easy to use a computer to isolate the segment containing the event to be viewed. The proximity warning screen and associated tone are a good reminder that one is following too closely and video is still being recorded during the warning display. I have not had an event involving the G force sensor. The only feature about the system that I do not like, and it is a minor one to me, is the mounting bracket. I do not like that it is mounted to the windshield with an adhesive but I expect it to stay reliably in place and not detach the way suction cups do. The unit come with a 4GB microSDHC card and is easily upgradable to a maximum of 64GB which will record 80 minutes of 1080HD video. The video continuously records while the vehicle is in motion and will record over the oldest video when the memory card is full. The most recent video is always available. Think of it as FIFO-first in, first out. I am very pleased with the simplicity of set up, operation and quality of the videos. I gave the unit 4 stars for the adhesive mounting bracket only. I highly recommend this unit.

Good Dash Cam for the price

Overall, this is a decent Dash Cam. It does exactly what it's supposed to do. Biggest issue is the mount. normally mounts are an issue when getting them to stay in place. This one has the opposite problem. The adhesive is so strong it pretty much makes the Dash Cam a one-vehicle Dash Cam. If you're looking to use this in more than one vehicle be careful.

Good device but there are a few "buts"

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Does what it says it does. Essentially once set up, it just works. If you're looking for a device that just works, it's the device for you. The "Buts": 1: It has no audio. None. Owners manual says it does but per a call to Garmin only the overseas units do. 2: it saves the video in 1 minute clips. You can assemble them with their player software but only with the device hooked to USB. And it's not easy to remove the unit from the windshield AND you have to realign when installing 3: Resolution is good, but not sharp enough to read a license plate even when enhanced unless the car is sitting still. 4: Power cord is cig lighter plug. Can't use USB to power because unit then starts in mass storage mode. 5: Traffic camera data is a trial, not as it's implied "free". Not a bad unit, good Garmin quality, American company. That's why a middle of the road review.

    The Garmin Dashcam

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This Garmin dashcam just did not work for me, forcing me to always enter date and time everytime the recorder is started it's onboard battery just does not keep the settings. And if you want to start recording it is not automatic, you must reach up and look at the very small screen and make a choice, this just gave me fits, if you don't see the little red light on the dashcam it's not recording, you drive off and you get nothing. Sometimes it just starts when you just touch a button on it's side, like when installing it on windshield or the computer, you get a recording of your feet or the wall maybe your hand. That is so bad. And those 30 second recording files and no way to make them longer, that is a real bummer as you end up with so many files it just is not something that is helpful in my case. And using the Garmin non vacuum mounting post, that is really worthless, and even trying to use one of Garmins GPS vacuum mounting posts they block 30% of the camera lens and you have a spot in your recordings that you see a black blob, that is really bad. And trying to use it on a computer is not always going to work well, sometimes after plugging the USB from computer to the Garmin dashscam, the dashcam does not turn on, maybe trying the replugging a few more time gets it done, not something i want to go through each time. Anyway i returned the Garmin dashcam to BestBuy and am happy they took it back. Now i have to find another dashcam that will just start recording when i want it to.

We like Garmin products and this is no exception and we would get it again. The only weakness is the adhesive mount. We needed a portable one so we can use it in rental cars. As it turns out, it works great with the friction mount we already had and use with our Garmin GPS. It is Garmin Model 010-10908-02.

The video quality is not worth the money you are paying for this unit. The software is so behind the times. Map function, everything is not worth it. No audio recording. If this was half the cost, it would be worth looking at. Very disappointed in the unit. Returning it after one day of use.

Out of the box, mounting was an issue. Included adhesive mount states it should above 70 degF to mount. (Not a good Christmas present in NJ). Garmin suction mount (separate purchase) didn't hold. Unit died after 6 months. Won't power on anymore. Won't reset.

When a device won’t power on a soft reset often resolves the issue. Connect the device to a power source with a USB cable, vehicle power cable, or an AC adapter. Press and hold the power button for 10 to 15 seconds. Once the device powers on I would suggest fully charging the battery. Here is a Garmin Product Support article that gives all of the charging details:  http://bit.ly/2mUqF0t

If you’re unable to get the device powered on, Garmin Product Support would be happy to offer additional assistance. Our contact information, including telephone number and hours of operation, can be found on at: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/ Thanks, James Garmin

    Not loving it

The one piece Charger/cable is to way short. Plan on having it drape down your windshield unless you want to buy a longer one from Garmin for $25. Very little customization compared to others. (unable to change packet size adjust color etc...) traffic lights and headlights appear as blobs. Clarity is very poor. Unable to read most large signs. Forget reading license plates. This compares to most $50 dash cams only lists for 4 times as much.
