Garmin dropped the ball with this watch.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Garmin dropped the ball with this watch. As a triathlete, I would NOT recommend this watch. 1) It's heavy. Did you ever race? You don't want to carry anything heavy. 2) It's doesn't track very well. Cannot pick up GPS quickly. Garmin this is what you do. And you are starting to stink at it. Could it be because the watch is incredibly waterproof? 100m Is this the reason for the excess weight, and the poor GPS? I don't know maybe. Other things. Cannot access my home WiFi when the SSID is hidden. Really? That is unacceptable. Garmin should be able to program and fix this. But have they? No. Cannot access my Bluetooth headphone. What? Really? Support from Garmin said to me, buy a more expensive headphone. Really? That is their answer, after I spent $650 dollars for their watch. I have a better idea, I'll keep my cheap Blutooth head phone and return your watch instead. Coros makes a better watch than your Garmin for 1/3 the price. It's light weight, tracks GPS better, waterproof, works with hidden WiFi SSID. If you are a triathlete give Pace 2 a try.

Playing Music Was Inconsistent at Best
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I only had my Fenix 5X Plus for ten days before returning it. I've owned three other Garmin Forerunners starting with the 301 so I do like their products. My main reason for getting this watch was so I could listen to music without having to take my phone on runs. Watch set up and adding songs was relatively straight forward. However, I found I had to re-pair my Jabra Elite Active 65t earbuds every time I wanted to use the watch. Half the time, after trying for 15-20 minutes with no success, I gave up. Even when paired, songs would cut out when I wore the watch on my left wrist. Okay, I could get used to wearing it on my right wrist and put up with the occasional empty air when the watch went behind my back. Then one day the watch did not pair with my Garmin HRM-Run heart rate monitor, which it had previously been doing without problem. My old 920XT paired with it flawlessly so that was the last straw, I returned the Fenix 5X Plus. Garmin does have a list of "wireless" (not true wireless) earbuds on their website that they say work with the Fenix 5X Plus, but I wasn't prepared to spend even more money on any of those. I hope Garmin will figure out how to get their watch to work with arguably the best and one of the top rated true wireless earbuds on the market. I'm not sure what the issue was with the heartrate monitor, but if you buy this watch with the hopes of listening to music, check out Gramin's recommmended earbuds - hopefully they'll provide better performance than I experienced.

Super disappointed- multiple returns.
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wanted to like this thing. If you need gps, just get an inreach. This thing is terrible as a smart watch. This first one I got had dead pixels right out of the box. No big deal, got it exchanged. The second one I got would consistently turn itself off without explanation, and I would constantly have to re-pair the Bluetooth. Finally the Bluetooth stopped working altogether. Aside from the quality issues, this thing is awful as a smart watch. The sensor data is vague. Forget about using the pulse ox- it doesn’t work. Compared to a medical grade finger tip pulse ox meter, it’s wildly inaccurate. The barometer gives you completely random storm alerts, even if the barometric pressure doesn’t change. The menu navigation blows also. Finally, the gps takes FOREVER to connect, if it connects at all. Also, if you’re a relatively thin person and have bony wrists, it’s super uncomfortable. It rides on the bone on the outside of my wrist and leaves a red mark that gets raw after awhile. The only remedy for this is to wear the watch super tight. The only saving grace is the build quality of the chassis. It’s pretty good. The fact that people pay $600 for this is astonishing. I paid $330 and feel that is way way overvalued. You can do better garmin.

Disappointed in Product
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It has become a frequent occurrence that at any time during usage, the screen would just go blank...display lost. All information regarding performance in the event undertaken lost. This started in less than a year after purchase. This has gotten progressively worst to almost a weekly occurrence.

Does not work for Dark skinned people
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, well made watch, probably the best fitness tracker I have ever worn when its actively tracking. For some reason it never worked for me. I kept the watch for a whole month and then I read that it's a software glitch and the auto function for turning on the heart rate sensor does not work as intended for darker skin tones. It turns off when I am wearing the watch on my wrist almost as though it thinks it's not being worn and there is no way to turn it back on. However, when actively tracking like jogging outside all of its features works great and it's amazing. Sadly, I advise dark skinned folk to test first to see if it will work before leaving the store, or until garmin addresses the issue. When I have someone else with lighter skin tone wear it, it's just fine and when I wear it on the underside of my wrist which is a lighter brown, it works ok but who does that. I tried a reset, a reboot, a replacement unit, same result. Everything else about the watch worked great and I wish Garmin would allow a manual override to turn on the heartrate sensor and the Oxygen sensor since those two things control most if not all of the metrics being tracked. In any case, big kudos to Best Buy staff for helping me find a Fitbit. I would still buy it if there is a way to get it to work as intended as I liked the battery life a lot.
