Great sturdy watch!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing watch! It just needs a few seconds for the GPS to get signal. The resolution of the display is OK. I was looking for a strong and sturdy watch and the Fenix and this fenix 5x sapphire is the one.

Not even appropriate for mentally gifted!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.$600 watch that SEEMS to be able to show and monitor everything BUT requires a manual printed for Liliputians who have hours to waste. Further, it seems the watch must be plugged into your computer every 3 days or its power dies -- WITH NO WARNING! I tried to set it up to measure my workout on an elliptical machine, and it seems to show how many miles I swam! Sometimes a $25 Timex may be better

Screen issue.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this Garmin for $300 which was a great deal. Twice the screen went completely crazy. Not sure why the issue, but it went away when I hard restarted the watch. After the second time in a week, I returned it. I guess I'll stick with my Garmin HR?

Cool Watch, Lots of info
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a triathlete as well as a U.S. Army Soldier. I have been using GPS watches to track my training as well as hikes and minor navigation assistance for a long time. I upgraded from the Garmin Vivoactive to the Fenix 5X Saphire about 4 and a half months ago. The features are very cool. My battery lasts upwards of a week while monitoring 4 runs, 3 bike rides, 3 swims, and 5 strength training sessions per week. I use an external heart rate monitor some times, but not always. The running information it gives me is very nice. every year, I do a VO2 Max test with a sports medicine doctor and the Garmin Fenix 5X is within 1 of where my doctor puts me. It takes about a month of running often to get an accurate reading on the VO2 Max. The training status is very helpful. It keeps me on track with how productive my training is and when I need a recovery week. The wrist based heart-rate is great for monitoring resting heart rates, but for exercise heart rates, it's not accurate. this is the reason I didn't give the watch 5 stars. a $700 watch should have an accurate wrist-based heartrate while training. It's incredibly durable. I use my watch in the field and it goes through heck and back with me twice a month. After I get back, I rinse off the watch and it looks good as new. The BRICK/Multi-Sport feature is the first app I've ever seen on a sports watch that feeds back information for a race or a BRICK both separately, and as one event. All in all, I have the coolest watch around. I have had a couple of friends who bought the watch after seeing how I use it and how useful it is.

I wanted to love this watch but sadly it is back i
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m in my mid 50’s and pretty active, I workout 6 days a week, mixing P90x and Insanity, plus I walk 7 days a week. Normally after a very early morning workout, I walk on a treadmill at 10 degrees incline for 30 minutes at 3.8 mph. I then walk outside at night for at least another 4 miles sometimes 6. I have bicycle which I don’t ride as much as I should. I have a Fitbit charge HR since 2014 and recently upgraded to the charge hr 2, the only time this is not on my wrist is when I’m in the shower or it’s charging. The miles are off on the Fitbit, using map my walk or map my ride, the fitbit states 3.2 miles when I have done 4 miles. But its small and easy forgotten on the wrist. The HRM is off slightly, compared to my chest strap set up, when that read 176, my Fitbit reads 169, at 156 my Fitbit reads 148. If off constantly but it’s a good relative reading for intensity. I’m looking for close repeatability, if I’m at 144 then I know I need to push myself, if i’m around 165+ I know I’m good. The Fenix 5x, the HRM is off, really off, today was the final straw, I used the strength and treadmill app, only during my warm up did my heart rate climb to 156, after that it never ever went above 100, I wore my fit bit and chest strap to compare. At odd times checking my chest would read 156, my Fitbit 148 the Fenix 5x 84. It was really off, really off. On the watch face, just sitting here, it's reading 141 at the moment and my Fitbit is 85. It was great for outdoor walking yesterday, it got my miles down perfectly in tune with my my walk. However I got this for the fitness data and if it off by so much then the data is worthless. After an hour of strength training where part from the warm up it did not go about 100 bpm, the watch ted me I needed to rest 4 days?. Wow it’s going to freak it it stayed with me for the entire week. This is nice looking watch, at full MRSP it needs to be perfect, the screen is not very bright, very washed out and looks 8bit, it’s too large to wear 24/7 and the HRM is a deal breaker for me. I will return it, maybe when it goes on sale for 299 and they have fixed the HRM with firmware updates I would look at it again as a part time watch, but at full price it as too many issues for me to keep.

Apple Watch to Fenix 5X
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok really good smart watch, other than the obvious feature of GPS street and topo mapping which is only available from Garmin and is great; I actually really enjoy all the workout tracking features which i believe to be far superior to the Apple Watch Stainless I used to own. I've tried swimming and running 3x for 2 weeks and it worked great. What I love even more about it, is the 12 days battery life which is incredible because i hated having to charge my watch every night, and being unable to travel or do camping without having to constantly search for an outlet, my phone is enough of a burden I don't want my watch to be burning my portable charging cells as well, or forgetting my watch if I wake up in a hurry. It is for bigger wrist but it isn't too heavy, I don't feel the need to take it off at all. I get more notifications than my Apple Watch since everything that goes through my phone appears on the screen. On the downside I wish it had Siri so that I don't have to search for widgets, and of course it would allow me to respond to text if needed instead of just viewing it. Overall, the Apple watch is for those who really want to use their watch to respond to text or rather have a constant hd screen on their wrist and don't mind charging their watch every day even in the backcountry and while traveling. Otherwise the The Fenix 5X is for you. Oh, one more thing, even though I wish there were more apps like Apple has, just because why not, I actually never used them when I had the Apple watch and I rather have real GPS mapping.

One of the best activity recording watches
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I owned several GPS enabled watched in the past which includes the Nike GPS watch (2013), Polar 400 (a really nice watch), and a couple of smart watches (Huawei and Samsung). The Fenix 5x is definitely in a different class based on the quality, accuracy, and reliability. I purchased this watch back in September 2017 at full price. The best features are the GPS locks in within seconds of activating, it records a ridiculous number of physical activities, and it is not a touch screen. The latter feature is very important to me because I sweat a lot. This was a huge problem with my smartwatches because it was a hassle to start and stop my smartwatches when my face and hands were full of sweat. The downsides are the weight (this watch is relatively heavy), the watch band wears out fairly quick (I had to replace after a year), and the outside metal bezel stratches/dents fairly easily. Not a dealbreaker but for a watch at this price point, I expected a little better quality. Overall, I am happy with this watch and plan to continue using this to record my activities for years to come. Garmin constantly provides software updates which helps improve it's performance. I would easily recommend this watch to all active individuals!

Fitness tracker with GPS navigation done well
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The true power of this watch is only fully realized once you download and use Garmin Connect. The amount of free features and apps that it adds is amazing. The battery life so far has been great, it uses very little power when you are not navigating. I haven't tested it on a long hike but I'm sure it will perform well. I was a little worried when I saw the seemingly flimsy band, but so far it has held up and I'm happy with it now.

MUST OWN... Bottom Line
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can't imagine any possible scenario where someone would regret purchasing this watch. Extremely accurate in nearly every setting it has. I hike, I climb, I ice climb, I cave, and mountaineer. This this thing is an absolute must have in all scenarios. Unrelated: LOOKS AWESOME.

Great watch for outdoors. Run, hike, crossFit +
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had suuntos (ambit, core and more), had the Fenix 3hr (loved that watch)....wanted latest and greatest for all the sports we do. Compete in elite and competitive as well as elite masters in spartan, epic, CrossFit... The Fenix 5x is my go to watch hands down.... Does everything I need and more I have a app for motorcross in desert , cross fit and we run, swim, dive, mtb...we do a lot...this watch fits the bill...functions are easy, accuracy on GPS is great, programs, support and all else make the Fenix 5x a valuable tool.... Wife and I used my last Fenix to get unlost while in mountains running...took a wrong turn and we were 2 miles out in a different canyon. Looked up my tracks and we followed it back made our turn and got back to car..... LOVE THIS WATCH... Wife is taking her iwatch 2 off and getting a Fenix 5s. She loves the overall look and tracking...it's a sports watch before a smart watch.

I really wanted to love this watch!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wanted to love this watch but unfortunately going back to store!! pros it has a great battery life which u should expect from a watch only shows who calls u and texts you so it is not trying to get info from your phone all the time!!and with that kinda screen u should give me something which what u got is a great battery life!! well I had hard time understanding idea behind this watch it has a great look to it ,but heart rate is definitely off by couple hundred numbers everytime, when I tried this watch I tried compare with other watches etc.garmin watch reads 72 after 30 min of running other 3 I tried including one with chest piece minimum read 122 which it was off ,like really off, here is the kicker, garmin has few apps that will tell your heart rate ,they don't even match how that's possible and these apps are by garmin, strength app will read 79,back up heart monitor will read 62,most of the apps have horrible reiews,I wasnt expecting to get perfect heart rate but wasnt expecting to be this much off either...so at the end u got a great looking Casio that u need to charge.unless u are planning to get lost in the wild

Smart watch that’s not smart
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.4K steps while driving? Altimeter off by 1000 feet? Compass direction same while rotating. I tried calibration, I tried factory reset. It would work then fail hours or a day later. Battery life excellent, mapping excellent, the rest is poor. 700.00 for something that didn’t work? Had to return.

Worst Display I Have Ever Seen!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to like this watch, i really did, but i just couldn't get past the disaster of a display. I thought the watch was defective at first because all the pictures online show such as gorgeous detailed display. Beware, once you turn this thing on its like you were transported back to 1985. The functionality is awful, clunky and confusing. The maps load slow and are "jerky". About the only time i could see the display somewhat OK was when i was in direct sunlight. I suppose if you only swam in the ocean this would be a OK device. I mean if you get a message or notification it takes 4-6 button presses to read them. Oh, i forgot, you want to respond to a notification or message, forget it, won't happen. I think ill spend $700 on something else. Avoid this like the plague.

No music?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.this problem is not garmins problem, but the people at best buy told me that the fenix 5 had music. Well, brought it home and realized it DOESN't have music. So disappointed. I checked the box for music on their website and it said it had music. Guess I'll be taking this nice looking watch back tomorrow. So sad, i knew it had to be to good to be true.
