Heart Rate Monitor does not work during Pool Swim

I tried two different fenix 5x's and neither was able to track my heart rate during a pool swim. SInce this is my primary method of exercise, I decided to return it. I was very much hoping it would work.

This is just flat out bad. I've owned several devices which were 1/3 of the cost and were far better. The data is often inaccurate. Garmin effort to address issues is slow to non existent . This is still one of their flagship devices and support has nearly disappeared. Don't believe me? Join the Garmin forums. There's a few fan boys in there who would defend it to the end and mostly a bunch of issues that get entered and ignored until they fall off the screen. If you just want data to make you go ooooohhhh ahhhhhh. you'll be fine - it randomizes data nicely and draws pretty pictures. If you expect it to be accurate from one day to the next ....rolling on the floor, laughing my you know what off! I'm not talking a slight variance. I'm talking about registering a heart rate of 98 when the actual is 160.

Until Garmin can make a watch that doesn't increase your steps as you ride in a vehicle it's too much money.

      Hello,

Thank you for your review and sorry to hear about your issue of increased steps when driving. Garmin Activity Trackers are designed to track repetitive walking motion as steps. As your arm swings, the internal 3-axis accelerometer of the device will measure and record each complete swing as two steps. Occasionally, during certain activities, your arm may swing enough resulting in a small number of steps to accumulate. Examples include:

Driving a vehicle (usually due to rough terrain)
      Taking a shower
      A restless night of sleep
      Brushing your teeth
On the other hand there are instances where a lack of arm movement may result in a loss of steps while you are walking. Examples include:

Pushing a stroller or shopping cart
      Mowing the lawn
Carrying a bag of groceries or child
The overall accuracy of your daily step trends and goals should not be significantly affected by the above scenarios.

      Thanks
      Chris Garmin
