OK... I had the Garmin vivoactive HR great watch. Did thr job for a couple years. The step measurement was always a bit short, and the sleep tracker was meh.. But it was a great system, lasted 5 to 6 days. But I went swimming with it, and it suffered an "unrecoverable failure". So I started researching and came down on the Garmin (yeah I trust the name) Vivoactive 3 and the Instinct. Chose the instinct because it seems tougher. Light weight, durable have had it on my wrist for a week and it's awesome. I needed a way to respond to texts without grabbing the phone (for meetings etc) Been using for 5 days.. Only lost a bar in the battery.. (I despise a smart watch you have to recharge every night.. Because frequently I'm not near my charger for a couple days. Yes.. It is not connectable to the Garmin IQ... It doesn't store music or have the Garmin pay stuff.. It's a tough workhorse watch. That looks good. To be honest the cute colored watch faces were nice (this is monochrome) but I need a watch that works in the rough environment I work in. Easy to read quick to learn the operations... It's a time piece not a wrist toy. There are 6 faces you can have. The standard black with white digital gives you, time with seconds , date, steps, sunrise sunset. A couple of button pushes brings up an accurate compass, altimeter, alternate time, weather, events messages and heart rate... You cans set it up anyway you want. Its not touch screen so ya gotta work the buttons, but it feels and looks great. Looks like a real watch.

Great watch, lasts me 2 weeks on one charge! I use it to go mushroom picking so I didn't get lost. I really like it! Tracks so many things like heart rate, sleeping, stress, steps, stairs, miles and speed while I'm GPS mode, and on and on. Really cool and not that expensive.

Best watch for the money. I prefer function over appearance or fancy screens. The disply on the watch reminds me of a low-def Ti calculator screen, which I think is cool. Tou can text, email, make calls, etc. But that isnt really why I got this watch. I love the HR monitor, one of the most accurate wrist-based HRs out there. However, you can still pair this with a chest strap HR via bluetooth or ANT+. The other reason why I got this is because this also has an accurate GPS to track running and hiking on trails with a topographic map. It also has many exercise options with different training intervals and intensity cues. This watch is also rugged, and has impact, dust amd water resistant ratings that are among the best. Nothing fancy about thia watch. It just works.

Love the rugged and efficient features. Great battery life. Used the GPS feature to get back to hotels while traveling in south east Asia this year, very useful!!! Use waterproof feature to track swimming. Very good to take on hikes and for runners. Wife and I go on night hikes to take pictures of Arizona’s many national monuments, watch helps to track moon phases, we go on nights with no moon to get a better view of the night sky. I would highly recommend this watch.

With a battery life of 12 days in gps mode, this watch is all I needed. It shows me notifications and tells me the time while also being rugged enough to take a hit or two. Great basic smart watch with insane battery life so I don't have to worry about charging it.

Battery life is way better than I expected, purchased on 4-22-21, 3 weeks later I'm still running on it's 2nd charge. I thought not having a touchscreen smartwatch would suck, but this thing has exceeded all expectations. Bluetooth connectivity is great,. If i leave my phone charging as I'm doing things around the house, i still get all notifications. You can preset custom messages to reply to texts through the watch, block apps from sending your watch notifications (apps of less importance), answer and dismiss phone calls, shuffle though your phone's music, it can sort of track your workouts and remind you to move, get instant gps coordinates from it, mark waypoints, and navigate(helps in my line of work), and the screen is easy to see and read even in direct sunlight, and a bunch of other cool stuff that i don't always use. I purchased screen protectors that i haven't even used yet (i will) but this gorilla glass has kept it scratch free. Sitting here trying to come up with any cons but i can honestly say i can't think of any. Too many great things to say about this watch to fit in here.

This watch is possibly the best fitness tracker I have owned. I’ve ran since I was in high school, and I’ve never had such accurate and constructive data after a run like I have had with the Instinct. The battery life is amazing, the live tracking feature from the watch is awesome if you exercise/do activities alone and want a peace of mind so someone can know where you are! The widgets are awesome, and the music integration is awesome, especially on runs! I take it backpacking with my boyfriend, and the GPS has always been super helpful. I would recommend this to anyone, it’s an awesome watch. The only real constructive advice I can give, is that for a little bit it’s hard to remember the button functions and such, but it gets easier as time goes on!

Got it just to not have a second device to use when running or biking. It's been great as a watch and as a gps based activity meter. Display brightness/contrast even in direct sunlight is great. Gps accuracy is not top notch for sure, but still accurate enough not to be bothered by the range of variations even for 7 miles run (my guess it will be good enough for longer distances too for most people). Overall I'm happy with this model. A single feature it lacks that I definitely miss is no support for Alexa voice commands. But so far I still had no desires to look for another model (which also would be more expensive).

So far everything works perfect except the heart monitor, which is slightly inaccurate.. unfortunately that’s why I am giving it four stars. It’s a beautiful watch! It grabs a lot of compliments and looks super sporty and stylish. I love the alarm option which really wakes me up!! It’s a must have watch if you don’t worry about the heart monitor option. GPS is accurate and steps as well. The battery life is way better than most other smart watches in the same range.

So far this has been the best Christmas gift my boyfriend and I have gotten for each other. The sleep and stress monitors are particularly helpful especially because I can track throughout my day what had my heart rate up. It also details the quality of sleep you are getting and how that effects you battery charge and activity level over the next day which was pretty enlightening. We haven’t used the GPS functions yet, but we are stoked to try out the trails and the compass is awesome. Also, the weather helps us immensely because it includes the wind speed and direction which is great for deciding weather we surf or paddleboard/kayak. We also love the shared challenges we can set up in the Garmin app to make sure we are holding each other accountable for our daily activity goals.

I left the I-watch because of the constant battery charging. This watch held its first charge for over two weeks. It has GPS and all the health features I care for. Got it on the 1st and it’s on its second charge 27 days later.

This watch is amazing!!!, GPS, HR, Altitude, sunrise and sunset, calories burned, weather, stop wach, date, multi sport tracking, text messages...they though of everything. It’s water proof, shock proof and has lap feature when training. The weight lifting feature is even intuitive enough to count your reps and knows what exercise you are doing. This is the perfect watch for the multi-sport athlete. The battery life is amazing. When using the watch for normal daily features the battery will last up to 2 weeks. With the GPS on, I can get a couple days before having to recharge. Make sure to down load the user manual after purchase to learn how to use all the features. Some of the reviews were inaccurate about the text messages and other apps that I think people just didn’t learn how to use correctly. The only negative comment I would say is the boring color with few options (which I love) and this watch does not have a touch screen. Again learn how to use all the buttons and this is not a problem. In fact, with my last Garmin watch my touch screen cracked and was unusable during my first climb when my wrist hit a rock. After a month with this watch I barely even see a scratch. I would highly recommend this watch to all outdoor sports enthusiasts.

I've been using the Garmin Instinct Rugged Outdoor Watch with GPS (Model 010-02064-00) for about a month now, and I'm really impressed with it. It's made with a durable polymer case and a scratch-resistant display, and it's water-resistant to 100 meters. It also meets U.S. Military Standard 810G for thermal, shock, and water resistance. The Instinct has a built-in GPS, so you can track your runs, hikes, and other activities. It also has a heart rate monitor, so you can track your fitness levels. And it has a variety of other features, including a compass, altimeter, barometer, and weather forecast. I've been using the Instinct for a variety of activities, and it's been great. It's accurate, easy to use, and it's very durable. I highly recommend it to anyone who's looking for a great outdoor watch. I do a lot of hiking/camping, general outdoors type of stuff. I‘be never been a huge “watch guy”. I’ve owned a couple over the years but never actually set out to intentionally to get one. Until now. I knew I wanted something with ABC, weather, and tracking abilities. It also was gonna need to take a beating. You get all that plus a ton more. It’s pretty rugged. I’ve already put it through it’s paces and it’s held up nicely. No scratches to speak of and the screen has taken a couple direct hits. There are a ton of personalization abilities throughout the screen options. It’s easy to maneuver through the settings as well. I didn’t set out for a smart watch but I’m finding the ability to glance down to see what just came through, be it email or text, etc, is a nice feature I never knew I’d enjoy. No you cannot answer messages directly from the watch but again, that’s not what I want in a watch. Again, not really being a big watch guy, I find I leave this on day and night until it needs charging. I’m getting about 8-9 days out of a charge using the gos almost everyday to track hikes/walks. The app seems to work well and provides way more info than I’ll ever need but super cool at the same time, if that’s your thing. The face is kind of big but not ridiculous. I’ve seen way bigger. I like the simple layout of the screen as well, which as previously mentioned, is easily personalized to see what you want to see on each screen during use. There are a bunch of features I haven’t even gotten a chance to mess with yet. Overall it’s a pretty cut and dry watch. If you’re looking for a rugged, well thought out timepiece, with a ton of great and very user friendly features, this is probably for you. If you’re looking to keep up with the Joneses or want a small, thin watch to count steps, answer texts etc, get an Apple Watch. Great watch, even for a guy who doesn’t like watches.

PROS: GPS, on-screen options for compass, pace and mileage tracking, Activity Tracking, heart rate, Smartphone features (call and message notifications, weather, music controls), Excellent battery life in smart watch mode, durable, waterproof, great for outdoor use, trail backtrack feature, compatibility with garmin connect and map apps. CONS: Very large face, black and white display I REALLY wish this had a color display, but this was the first GPS watch I was buying, and the price was unbeatable, so I decided to go for it. Aside from that, I love this watch. The controls did take a bit of getting used, as it is not a touch screen like my previous smart watch, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy to use. I love that it has the most important features to me in a smart watch (notifications/calls/music controls/weather/time), but also has awesome GPS and activity tracking features. I use this watch for horseback riding, mileage and pace tracking on trail rides and on competitive rides. I was able to purchase a band in my preferred color from the garmin website. While in smartwatch mode, the battery lasts forever! My previous smartwatch had to be charged every couple of days. I only have to charge once every 10 days or so, except when I'm using the GPS, and understandably, it does need charged much more frequently when GPS is on. If you're looking for a starter GPS watch that's a great price and has great features, and are willing to try a black and white display, I'd definitely recommend this watch!
