Does not track steps when doing a workout. I was hopeful it would count steps and heart rate reliably but it does not and won't count any steps in any indoor activity

Love this!! I have always used Fitbit. Went with the Garmin when I was having issues with Fitbit. LOVE THIS. I get more notifications. To me it is an Apple watch in Garmin form with a longer battery life. Love this watch.

Bought from Garmin 0n 12/12/2019 Good: - Easy to connect to the phone - Like custom made faces. - Sleep stats is good. - Like Pulse OX and respiration data during the sleep. - The watch is not large and is not heavy. It is comfortable to wear during the sleep. Much better than Galaxy. Bad: - SpO2 is always 3-4 points lower than finger Oximeter on the same hand. I don't have any tattoos or a lot of hairs. My skin is pretty much average for the white male. And wear watch tight enough (I know, somebody will ask this question). - When you wake up in the middle of the night and read a book, watch doesn't recognize it and treat as a light sleep. By the way, Samsung Galaxy watch didn't recognize it too... Although Fitbit Versa is much better about it. - Custom faces could of contain more than 4 data tabs. - Connect IQ contains small choice of watch faces and only few support 'always on' display. To my liking had to create my own custom face. Ugly: - Did not use anything else, but treadmill activity heart rate detection is plain TERRIBLE!!! Compared to the chest strap/treadmill number (I am using this chest strap for more than 5 years) . After 15 minutes of incline walking watch shows heart rate of 97 when chest strap/treadmill shows 130. Due to my age, my normal exercise rate should be between 120 and 130. If I were walking till watch shows 120, I should of probably call ambulance... When I turned off the activity, the difference in the heart rate difference was not that substantial - 110 vs 120. My rating includes hope that the Garmin will address the issues in the future software updates. Especially the issue with activity heart rate because it might become dangerous to people who rely on it.

I've been using this device for a few days and I have to say that I love the long battery life and the various stats on your health, particularly the sleep tracking + oxygen level monitoring. I do find that some of the features work pretty well, like the body battery and stress levels. I do hope the watch gets a few more actual quality apps and existing apps get some good upgrades. The Spotify app for example/music controller, with my Pixel 4 XL all it does is enable local play, it doesn't control the phone or Spotify at all, in the same manner it works with other systems like WearOS. In the end, I am satisfied with my purchase thanks to the battery life, good screen and the various health tracking features, which was the goal when I got the watch.

    Distance, where art thou?

I was chomping at the bit for this watch. Waited and waited for the blue version. Eventually bought it somewhere else. I had the Vivo HR and Vivoactive before and I can say, distance wise, they are top notch. I was excited about this watch. Then I tried to display distance in the "My day" widget. Nothing, nada. Ok...so maybe in the Steps widget. Nothing. WHAT? A fitness watch that doesn't have distance? Me: "Hey, I ran a 10451 step race today". My friend: "You ran a what?" Me: "Yeah, I can't tell you the distance, only the steps." So, I did find out that you can see the distance in the step widget after swiping forever. You see it in graph form with tiny little letters. I was frustrated and furious. Distance is universal and standard, steps are not. So please Garmin, go add the distance to "My Day". You have the information, just add it, please. I was about to return the watch when I started experimenting with the downloadable watch faces. Some are super cool and YES, many have distance information. After my big shock about the distance omission, I like the watch a lot. I haven't really "tested" the accuracy of it yet, but in general I love the features. Also, it is bright enough for sunlight, but just a little dimmer than my vivosport, I would say.

If a run activity was recorded properly on the Venu there would be a window at the top of the My Day page showing the distance of the activity. Please go to support.garmin.com and reach out directly to a product support associate who can assist you with your My Day information.

    Sleep tracking is abysmal

Bought the watch yesterday as my Apple Watch is being sent out again for batter issues. I figured I’d try something with a longer battery life and more fitness options. From what I saw it was a very capable watch or had the potential. Woke up this morning and saw the sleep function was woefully inadequate and incorrect. Turns out from many reviews, this is a known issue with Garmin. If it’s not important to you than I think Garmin would be great. The sleep tracking is important to me. Yes technically AW doesn’t officially track sleep but I downloaded AutoSleep and it’s amazingly accurate. I returned the Garmin watch today. For me that’s a deal breaker.

Garmin’s customer service is an even greater disap

What good is a fitness device with inaccurate heart bpm? Perhaps most of the other +++++ reviews are paid? Over the past 10 yrs, this is my 8th and last device from Garmin. A total disappointment with its gross lack of accuracy, hardware failure (within the past 48 hours it froze twice, could only correct it by letting the watch battery drain completely and then recharge it). Software design and options are mediocre, annoying at times and inefficient. To make matters worse, Garmin’s customer service is an even greater disappointment with its gross lack of professionalism, incompetency and no respect for Garmin patrons (durring all my 12 encounters and 7 hours I’ve wasted with them)!

    Disappointed

This watch is controlled by two buttons positioned on the right side of the watch face. The top button is used to log activities and is basically useless. Entering in that information on a device like this will take just as much time as the workout itself. Secondly, in the two plus weeks I’ve had this watch it has had issues connecting to my iPhone which has caused me to turn the watch off and back on to get it to synchronize to my phone. When I’ve had to do this the phone looses data like steps and sleep history. This has happened twice during the past three days. I do not recommend this product.
