    Loved it..... At first

In the beginning I loved this watch. I bought it as an upgrade to my Fitbit I previously owned. After using this watch daily for just about 6 months it stopped working properly. It would not turn on after removing it from the charger. Since it was after 6 months of use I couldn't return it, so basically it was a waste of $300. I will never buy this brand again, I ended up going back to my fitbit.

If all you're looking for is a watch with so so battery life, this might be for you. If you're looking for a smart watch that you can actually use as a smart watch, you might want to look elsewhere. I returned this and added the money to buy the Galaxy Watch 46.

Good for multiple activities, poor battery

    Posted .

Summary: A good tracker for multiple activities with limited battery life. Activity Tracking: The activity and GPS tracking is very good for most activities. GPS and HR are very accurate during running, biking, and strength training. The sleep tracking is also solid, though the device is a bit big to wear all night every night. The only activities I have issues with are the treadmill and elliptical, which are both generally inconsistent and ‘less than’ my actual distance. I have also had the device reboot/reload a couple of times, during which my activities in progress resumed with no significant loss of data, which is reassuring since the device is less than 100% stable; I’ve experienced 4 instances of reload/reboot in approximately 1 month of use. Battery Observations: If you do not use the GPS/tracking functions often you may get a few days out of a charge. If you are tracking any meaningful activities you are likely charging this daily along with your phone or other paired device. I’ve found that I can get close to a full charge in about an hour, so once you get used to the charging routine. That being said the device is more than capable of tracking activities for a full day. I have tracked up to 4 activities in a single day, running and biking, with GPS in use for approximately 10 hours on a single charge. Note that it did track for 10 hours, BARELY - it was at 2% when I was done for the day, back at the charger just in time. I have had apps for Hue light controls and Smart things installed - the presence and use of those did not seem to make a significant difference in battery drain, as the most significant factors impacting battery life appear to be GPS, display brightness, and activity tracking in general. While I do trust this device to run a 10K or spend the afternoon on trails I would not trust it to run a marathon or provide reliable tracking for a multi-day outdoor excursion. Connect App: More of a Garmin thing than the vívoactive; the Connect app really makes this device shine. It puts the data in various formats that are easy to interpret and understand. Many devices gather information, but few put it all together in a format that is as easy to digest as Garmin Connect. Syncing with other apps works well - MFP, Pros: - Lightweight - Accurate GPS - Charges quickly - Well built, durable - Not too big or bulky - Watch face is easily customized - Stress level tracking is interesting - Nice balance/mix of style and tech - Home screen is easy to scroll and interpret - Heart rate monitor is on par with chest straps - Recovers/resumes activity tracking after reload/reboot - Device reboots/reloads are quick and require no interaction - Connect app is very stable and provides good information and insights - Decent screen/brightness adjustment (at expense of already limited battery life) - Notifications are basic and effective - I consider this a plus as this is a fitness tracker, not a ‘smartwatch’, no need to ding the device for not trying to be something it is not! Anyone buying this hoping/expecting it does everything their Apple or Samsung smartwatch did should stop reading this and look elsewhere. Cons: - BATTERY LIFE! BATTERY LIFE! BATTERY LIFE! - Screen colors are a bit faded, washed out - GPS connection time can be long, >1min on occasion under a clear sky - Randomly reboots on occasion for no apparent reason - Proprietary charging cable that requires physical connection - Single button gets in the way of accessories, specifically gloves - no way to lock this out during workouts, which can be annoying for rest/lap/reps/etc.… Could be better: - The stock band is not bad, room for improvement there - Display resolution is acceptable, but it is reasonable to expect more from a $300 device that consumes this much battery/power - Connect IQ store apps - some are better than others, it’s the wild, wild IoT so proceed with caution - A bit big [for some] to wear all day every day - Partner app support My device at the time of this review: vívoactive 3 Running: SW Version 2.60 GPS Version 4.30 TSC Version 2.10 Sensor Version 5.10 WHR Version 20.03.24 on Android 8.0.0 (Oreo) Final comment: "Would Recommend: YES", but only if the individual asking was clear about their requirements and expectations of the device. Its a good device with good balance if you do not expect it to do all things perfectly all the time.

Hello MJLSr, Thank you for taking time to post a detailed review of the vivoactive 3. We wanted to take an opportunity address the battery life concern that you are seeing. If you are getting lower than expected battery life, we would recommend powering the device off, waiting about 10 seconds, and then power the unit back on. If this does not improve the battery life that you are seeing we would love to speak with you directly. Please send an email to [email protected]. We would also be happy to discuss any other concerns that you have, specifically any reboots that you experience. Thanks again for posting a review. -JFH Garmin

Purchased in February and is now only 3 months old. The battery life is minimal and is drained before the end of EVERY day. I used to only have to charge it every couple of days. No longer impressed or excited about this watch.

I wore this watch for month and found it to be hard to navigate, hard to use, and the heart rate monitor was inaccurate. I spent quit a bit of time online trying to set it up make it work for what I was hoping to capture with regards to numbers (hear rate, sleep, calories...etc) Unfortunately I never go there and returned the watch. Best Buy was unwilling to return my money even though I was at 21days. The manager was rude and didn't care. So, pay attention to the small print!! I'll never buy a device like this from Best Buy again!!
