Very easy to set up and the best for the price. Really like the heart rate monitor and the fact that works when at rest or doing a workout. I already owned a Garmin fenix 3 multi sport watch and love it too. But I like to use the vivoactive hr for work and sleep. And now Garmin made it easier for people that owned two Garmin devices they never loose your data when switching them, the data gets combined. Garmin Keeps getting better and always adding new features with updates even on my older Fenix 3.

I love my new Garmin. I read the reviews and compared it to other fitness watches before purchasing. I used to have a Fitbit Surge and really liked it. I had planned on replacing it with another Fitbit, but I ended up purchasing the Garmin. I am very happy with it and am glad I purchased this one. The band is a little big but I can “tighten”it for the perfect fit. Very comfortable to wear while awake and while asleep. The changeable watch faces is an awesome feature as well—I can change the display to make it look “different”. Right now I’m using one that has a flower growing as I get closer to my goals of the day. A quick glance let’s me know if I need to “step it up” or if I’ve already met my goal.

Great device b/c of following: waterproof, measures and graphs heart rate, sleep patterns, exercise distance, and calories burned. Allows user to choose and track a myriad of exercises, like skiing, swimming, running, biking, golf, walking, and rowing. Start/stop buttons allow tracking details of workouts, including making a GPS map of your route. Can save your routes in memory, look up map, and see distance and how long it takes you to complete. Linkage to phone app gives many useful graphs and metrics about entire day and specific workout for the day. Charging is very fast and the charge lasts days. Good looking, easy to read, strong, and comfortable. Engineers and designers thought of everything.

It is holding up great so far. The customization is pretty good. I only give it 4 due to the apps on the watch not always working or syncing.

I bought this to wear while running only, but I find myself wearing it all the time. The battery lasts a week or more. It seems to be accurate with distance and heart rate. The linked phone app has a lot of features regarding health stats. It's a good size for women or a small wrist. The only negative is the backlight is not very bright. Bottom line: good bang for the buck,

I've been wearing the Garmin pretty much everyday for 6 months and it's paired with my iPhone 6s. I read a ton of reviews on multiple devices before I settled on this one. It does a good job of tracking during physical activity. The GPS and Heart Rate seem very accurate during mountain bike rides and hikes, the stats seem legitimate, too. It's pretty rugged and has a real watch like grip (I don't worry about it falling off in the ocean). It pairs easily with various diet apps to monitor your intake/output. I would like more compatibility with my iPhone, though. I can't customize which notifications I receive; in my case, I'd like to have it show text messages only, but the Garmin shows every notification you set on your iPhone (all or nothing). The screen itself is a little dull, definitely not HD and does not show images (no emojis, photos, gifs, videos, etc.). The downloadable watch faces are much better than the default faces that come pre-installed. Lastly, you cannot reply to your notifications from the Garmin itself, you can only view them (then whip out your phone to reply). The Garmin Vivoactive HR is ideal for physically active people who want to track their progress and record their times for the sports advertised. This is not for the "techy" person looking for a smartwatch.

Great fitness watch if you plan to go in the water and like to charge no more often that once every 5-7 days. Definitely not a smart watch, but does a lot of the things you might expect from one. Better and more accurate heart rate information than I got from my Fitbit Surge (which I had to throw away after the band broke-bands are replaceable on the Garmin!).

Before getting this I had the samsung gear fit 2 which I loved as well but the band would unloosen and twice I found it outside. This watch does everything. I haven't tried the swim feature yet but its pretty cool considering it works. The band is sturdy and the watch is easy to use. Only downside, the screen is not bright. Other than that, no complaints.

I found a Best Buy with these in stock prior to the official release and based on all the reviews and the Garmin website, had to make the plunge. I previously had the Fitbit HR, which was lousy at keeping an accurate distance and step count. This has GPS and so many other features that I love. The app blows any other activity tracker out of the water. This is a watch/activity tracker. The battery life is phenomenal as well. Glad I stepped up to the Vivoactive HR.

The battery life of this is great. You can easily go 5 to 6 days before having to charge it. I've owned fit bit trackers before and this seems to be much more accurate. Pairs easily with your phone and doesn't lose the connection. The phone finder setting comes in handy at times as long as your within range. All in all a good buy

I bought this for my hubby for Father's Day. He's an avid runner and likes to watch his heart rate and mileage. He loves this watch. It's very accurate and he loves the fact that it connects to his phone. He didn't love having to wear a chest strap with the other watches. This watch is very easy to use! The battery life is impressive..7-8 days!! This is, by far, the best fitness watch he has owned. He would highly recommend this watch!

    Good hardware but quirky software

This is a very good fitness watch. It is highly configurable in alerts and workout recording. It has a rather good HR monitor but it does seem to cut out under the current firmware (2.60 as of this writing). However, reading the forums indicates that the upcoming firmware (currently in beta) fixes many issues with the HR monitor and watch reliability. The band is also much more comfortable and breathes better than the watch this replaced (Fitbit Surge) and is a lot better in almost every respect than anything Fitbit offers in this price range. However there is some caveats that should be noted: 1. Garmin's support channels are slow to respond (72 hours per email/phone call [not just the first one]). Additionally they are lacking in knowledge of basic computer software and I've caught them in outright lies regarding the functionality of Apple Health (I'm a 20-year veteran software developer BTW). 2. Their software doesn't actually "sync" activity data. It really should be called copying since it is only one-direction; therefore, if the watch is force-restarted, it resets things like steps and active minutes and they don't get updated from what is already recorded in the application on the next "sync" operation. Again, support failed to understand the subtle differences in how this behavior differs from things like a Fitbit (which will update the watch from the app if this scenario happens). 3. Their Apple Health integration has some pretty serious design flaws and will require user intervention to correct the recording of the data. There is a forum link on the GCM HealthKit issues and it took me and several other users almost 3 weeks to get support to acknowledge them (in the forum mind you, never through email support). Essentially their HK flaws are as follows: a. Steps don't get recorded until the first "sync" operation on the following day. b. Active / Resting Energy and Walking + Running Distance entries from prior day is overwritten with current day's readings and time. So it looks like they pull the last record, change the date/time and data then save it back, this has the appearance of deleting past entries. c. Workout data is an order of magnitude off on the calories burned in the Apple Health (correct in app and other 3rd party connections). For example if you burned 550 kcal it would show in Apple Health's Workout card as 0.55 kcal. Don't mistake this review. Even with these issues the watch is a solid performer and has a lot of potential once they work out the kinks. The biggest concern I have is the lousy support channel and I'm not the only one on their forums complaining about it. DC Rainmaker has a much better review of this watch and also has an article on his website which I invite you to go read it to make your own determination. I would still recommend this watch over the Fitbit Surge and Microsoft Band as it has a lot going for it in terms of the amount of data it records during your workouts. But if Garmin were to fix the issues here I would certainly say it easily would be 5 star instead of 3.

The tracker is large, took up my whole wrist, I wish Garmin would make this just a little smaller for a woman. Having said that, I was able to compare this to the Vivosmart HR+ as well as the Forerunner 235, out of the thee the Vivoactive HR was the most accurate, and easiest to use, tracks multiple sport activities, GPS, heart rate, sleep.

Overall, I am pleased with the many features and apps to track and monitor progress. However, I am a little disappointed with the fact the number of steps tracked and counted is based on arm movement, not actual steps. I use a treadmill set at the highest incline level to burn more calories when fast pace walking and running. As a result, it is necessary for me to hold onto the handrails to maintain my balance. Unfortunately in doing so, the Vivoactive HR device does not track the number of steps taken when worn on my left wrist, per product instructions. I contacted Garmin International and was told the following: "The way steps are determined is the internal accelerometer counts the swings of your arm. If you are holding onto the treadmill there is no way for the accelerometer to tell you are walking, since it cannot detect any movement. This is how most activity trackers work." This assumes arm movement is always linked to walking and is necessary. However, when I strap the device to my left ankle it actually tracks the steps taken, while holding onto the handrail. I wish there was a model for smaller wrists, but I am getting use to the size and look.
