||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was in the store and the salesman tried to sell me a more expensive devise. I asked about this garmin and had other garmin products I thought for the big price differance I would try it because I did not even know if I would use it. I am glad I went with my instincts, I LOVE IT. Would buy again.

Not a great pedometer but gets the job done
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great pedometer if you are looking only for steps count. It doesn't have the flights count or the heart reading. One of the nice things is you won't have to worry about charging the pedometer every other day

Doesn't Really Do Anything
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Seems to track steps, kind of, but other than that it doesn't really do anything. From what I can tell, if you don't remember to sync, it adds the steps starting from your last sync to your current sync even if it was two different days. Yesterday I only took 1000 steps (not even close) but by first thing in the morning I've already taken over 4000 steps (again, not even close). I exercise on an elliptical 30 minutes twice a day and the "active calories" never goes above 10. Well, that is not really helpful now is it? It also doesn't really track sleep. It's weird that it guesses that I start sleeping shortly after my evening exercise when I'm obviously up for another couple of hours but it does a pretty good job of guessing when I wake up. The unit syncs every time you press the button but I'd be embarrassed to use the social media functionality because it looks like I don't exercise and I sleep for 10+ hours a day. The app is pretty weak but given that the unit doesn't really do a good job tracking activity, it probably doesn't need much more functionality. In all, it looks like they didn't even really try to make an activity tracker, they just tried to make something that looks like an activity tracker.

Posted .We appreciate your review, and would like to address some of the issues you mentioned.
Please keep in mind, like most activity/step trackers, vívofit relies on sensors that are designed to track repetitive walking or running motion as steps.
For this reason, there are circumstances when an activity may be performed but step data may not increase, like the elliptical instance you mentioned.
This is because either enough movement has not been detected by the sensors to record a step or the movement that is detected is irregular. The distance recorded is based upon steps taken.
Examples of other circumstances that may prevent step data from accumulating may include:
* Walking while holding a stroller or shopping cart
* Holding the safety handle of a treadmill while walking
* Riding a bike
If an adequate amount of movement is not detected, the device will not record a step. It is also possible for the device to record steps due to inaccurate detection of movement that may mimic walking. It is recommended to wear the device on your non-dominant hand.
As far as 'Active Calories', they will appear in your account in one of two ways:
* When an activity recorded by your device is uploaded to your account. (The vívofit will record an activity when paired with a heart rate monitor)
* When active or highly active step data such as a run, is synced to your account
The vívofit likely had trouble detecting steps while using the elliptical machine. It can be paired with an optional heart rate monitor, which during activities like your elliptical workout, would use that heart rate information and upload to your account as an activity, with a more accurate active calorie count.
The Sleep Graph bases your sleep time on your lowest period of activity or during the times you set up in your Garmin Connect account. When you initially set up your device, you would have been prompted to enter your normal sleep time. It will use this information to determine sleep time for the graph in the Sleep Widget, or full sleep page. This means if your set time is 10:00 PM, but you weren't actually asleep until midnight, the sleep graph will begin to record sleep information at 10:00 PM, unless you change it. In addition to sleep times, the Sleep graph can be useful in tracking durations of movement and restful sleep, light and deep sleep periods.
Garmin Activity Trackers like vívofit are intended to be tools to provide you with information to encourage an active and healthy lifestyle. The data and information provided by these devices is intended to be a close estimation of your activity, including step, sleep, distance, calorie and heart rate data, but may not always be completely accurate. They rely on both sensors to detect your movement, as well as information entered into your Garmin Connect profile (Gender, Age, Height, Weight, and Activity level) to calculate data.
They remind you when it's time to get up and move, and assign an attainable personal daily goal. As you meet your milestones, vívofit adjusts your goal for the next day, gradually nudging you toward a more active lifestyle.
In your situation, a GPS enabled tracker like the vívoactive, may be a better fit.
We value your feedback. Thank you. *CG
