Not the watch it could be.

I Have never written a product review, but after having this watch for several months I have to voice my disappointment. I had the Garmin vivoactive hr and loved it, great battery life, good fitness tracker the new watch has none of these. This one is none of those things, I keep the watch on at all times unless charging. I find that the screen is too sensitive, a water droplet on the screen can either make it difficult to operate or it actually interacts with the watch. running water can change the screen and navigate to different screens. I have woken up to the watch having a different watch face. also the battery does not last as long as the previous watch. The fitness tracking is also poor, as an example on my drive home from work if I drive on a bumpy road it clears the move alert on the watch. so it picks up the bumps in the road as steps. I wish I could have kept my old Garmin. I don't know if I would purchase a Garmin watch in the future.

    Not a great smartwatch

Battery life is poor. Stair, stress and sleep tracking are ridiculous i.e. nowhere close to reality. Heart rate is all over the place. No GPS tracking for swimming outdoors, it simply counts laps. If you stop swimming you have to hit pause or it thinks you started another lap. Watch faces are tiny and hard to read without enough data. I'd like to be able to see the date without reading glasses. For the price, it isn't worth it.

I had great luck with the Garmin Vivosmart HR, despite the band coming off and not having a quality replacement. This watch has a good display, and is responsive, and tracks steps well, but that's about it. I would receive error messages when trying to look at notifications half the time. The Bluetooth range to stay connected to my phone was very restrictive (7-8 feet when I measured). It would randomly track me going up stairs when I hadn't been near any that day. Heart rate is innacurate; my heart rate was 70bpm higher than the watch was reading during my run, so it recorded about 1/2 the calories I was actually burning. I couldn't accept these flaws and pay $270 for basically an overpriced pedometer so I returned it. Garmin had really slacked off with this one. I'll look around and see if any other brand has actually put some effort behind their designs.

    Heart rate incorrect

I asked for this watch for my birthday present. My Garmin chest strap had gone bad and wasn't connecting to my Edge 510, so I figured why not get a watch and use that instead. The stats for this watch says that it has ant+ output so it would connect to my cycling computer. I tried it once and got past the warning that the ant+ output would reduce battery life. After riding about 5 minutes it disconnected, I went through the menu items to start it again and the same thing happened after about 5 minutes. Certainly not suitable for a 3 hour bike ride. The other problem is that as I was well into my ride, the watch was showing my heart rate at only 60-70 bpm, should have been around 120. Even if it was connected to my computer the inaccurate results would be worthless to me. I just don't get why it's so far off and why, apparently to save battery life, it will only output the ant+ signal for a few minutes. My chest strap which also puts out the ant+ signal uses a little 2032 battery and lasts for about 150 hours of riding. I ended up ordering a new Garmin chest strap and went to return the watch to Best Buy. I was told that I'm a couple days outside of their 15 day return window and can not return or exchange it. It was a present that I didn't purchase myself so I didn't notice that on the receipt. 15 days! Be aware of that if you want to shop at Best Buy. So now I have this $260 piece of junk sitting around to remind me of why I'll never shop at Best Buy again.

    Screen is from 1989

The watch as a whole is ok. The screen is unacceptably abysmal. In 2018, you have to do better than this. If you don't mind a prehistoric screen, then go for it, you may like it, otherwise, you are better off steering clear of Garmin

    Can't read the watch face

I have to admit that I couldn't get on with this at all. Photos of the Vivoactive tend to show the watch face backlit, in which case the hands stand out against the background. However, to save battery life, the default is for the backlighting to be turned off. As there are also three dials on the watch face, I found myself having to peer closely to be able to tell the time. I also found the battery life a bit short. I went on a three and a half hour hike during the 48 hours I owned the watch/tracker -- the watch was fully charged when I left, yet by late afternoon it needed to be recharged. I want to thank Best Buy for its straightforward and courteous returns procedure. I will buy there in future and hopefully it will be a more successful purchase.

Vivoactive 3 continues to exhibit software bugs

I have had my Vivoactive 3 in service for about 4 weeks now, and it no long tracks my sleep movements. For the first few weeks, the watch effectively tracked my movements, but it stopped several evenings ago. I have had numerous conversations and they have told me that is the way it is. Being outside of BB's 14 day return window, I am now stuck with a $270 smartwatch that no longer tracks sleep. No more Garmin products for me.

Bought the Vivoactive 3 back in September 2017 and loved the watch but unfortunately the past couple weeks I've started having issues with the button functioning properly....Now the button is not working at all!! I couldn't even stop a run I had started today. I am very disappointed that I'm already having these issues. Hopefully I will be able to return the device.
