    Amazing GPS fitness smartwatch

The apps available through the Garmin Connect app give this device smartwatch like abilities. I bought mine second hand from a family member. The battery life is what really makes this a keeper. I'm a cyclist so I use the gps function to record all, but my longest rides. It is waterproof, but due to its fast charge time, I recharge it while I'm in the shower. Also I have skinny wrists, but it still fits nice and snug. The only thing I would change about this model would be to put a USB type C port on the side. That way I only need one cable/charger while traveling.

I spent more than one year planning and searching which activity tracking device i should have bought. After receiving it and testing each component, everything was working and connecting perfectly, and i was really happy and enthusiastic. But, passed less than 2 months, the product presented defect, the active button and its bluetooh stopped working, in other words it became useless. The worst part is that i'm from Brazil and probably won't be able to fix it from here, and if i fixed i will lose the warranty. I sincerely don't advise anyone to buy this watch.

Best Battery Life on the market!

Everyone is worried about the most features or the best looking screen but they seem to over look battery life! No one wants to recharge a watch every night! This fitness smart watch has amazing battery life and still as a ton of great features! Is it the best smart watch? No. Is it the best fitness tracker? No. But it is the best of both for the price? YES! The screen is dim in a dark room but it's still easily visible and watches have had a push button back light for years. The screen does have a lag between you swiping and the screen moving but it's a small delay and doesn't bother me a bit. It's super light and super thin and does everything I want! I would choose this over any android wear or the apple watch! Battery life is king! And it's a watch people, it's not meant to replace your phone or tablet but to compliment it and tell the time haha

    Excellent product

I had previously owned the Fitbit Force (and got a rash) and 3 Vivosmarts (original replaced due to product defects). Garmin upgraded me to the Vivoactive free of charge after my last Vivosmart started going downhill. I was hesitant because I did not want a "watch" but was swayed because of the capabilities that this offered. Wow. Very happy I took the upgrade. Obviously customer service was fantastic for the offer but this product does everything it advertised. Love that it is waterproof, has a built in gps and excellent battery life. I seriously considered the Apple Watch but the lack of sleep tracking, no built in gps, and only water resistance, didn't make a case for me to shell out the $ for it. Granted, this is NOT the Apple Watch but it does what I WANT it to do and not a lot of things I don't NEED it to do. I have used it primarily for running and smartphone notifications but cannot wait to use the golf gps as soon as spring comes around. My only real negative for this is that it's not exactly pretty for us ladies and hopefully they add some more female friendly watch faces.

    Excellent device!

My sole purpose for purchasing the Vivoactive was for running. I enjoy all kinds of runs from short ones to marathons. All I wanted was to have a GPS watch that could connect to the satellites quickly, track my runs, give me my pace, time, and distance. This watch knocks all of those out of the park. Excellent battery life. Very comfortable. Very accurate. Sure, the display is a little dim but it's not terrible--plus, it likely adds to the battery life! I did not buy a chest strap because I don't care to know what my heart rate is but I am sure it would work flawlessly with this watch. I would highly recommend this GPS running watch. Of course, it does a ton more as well but I keep it pretty simple in life, LOL. : )

    Good Fitness Watch

I bought this fitness tracker after using the Vivofit for a year plus. I bought this watch because I wanted a dedicated fitness watch that also had the ability to push text, email, and calendar notifications. This device does just that while still maintaining its fitness purpose. I also bought this device anticipating that I could switch between the watch like Vivoactive and the slim Vivofit between different styles of activities. But be warned, it is not that simple. You cannot do this on the same day; pick one watch to wear a day or you will lose your tracking data. This is apparently a known flaw but I have learned to live with it and love my Vivoactive; it just feels weird to wear it in water. It also is more sensitive compared to the Vivofit. For example on long drives (8 hours) the Vivofit would track about 1000 steps, whereas the Vivoactive senses 10,000 steps. All I have to say to that is understand what your regular "step" activity is and compare it to that and not the distance. If you are so concerned about distance then use GPS but otherwise it is just a pedometer.

    So close to perfect

I need my watch to do three things. Tell me the time, keep track of how far I run, and show me my heart rate. The Vivoactive does all of these things. However, I do have a couple of quibbles - first, the custom watch faces are great, but finding one I like is impossible. Second, this same problem translates over to the default faces for working out. I think they could have shown more info by default rather than making me search for a face which works. Overall I love this watch for daily use and running. I'm 6'1", 175lb and it looks great on my wrist. It looks a little big on my wife's wrist.

I bought this with a few uncertainties. I saw reviews about how it would disconnect and the screen was really laggy. I have had no problems with my watch so far. Just went on a run with it and it is impressive how much it can do such as map your exact route and tell you your stride length. Definitely would recommend this to any fitness/triathlete/runner. The smart notifications are pretty darn sweet too!

I tried the gear S2 (disappointed) tried the fitbit surge (disappointed) then I got the Vivoactive, it works great, all the features work as advertised. The batter life is excellent, I'm on day 3 since I charged it with a walk and 2 runs with it and it's only at 75% The Gear S2 wouldn't last 12 hours. The only thing that I would like to see improved on the the display is not real bright.

Love this watch, just enough APPs for the normal fitness activist. Best perk is that charge last 7+ days. None of this daily charging like most other smart devices (phones & watches).

Very disappointed. The box and sticker on the watch face showed a bright and highly visible display. The actual watch muted the images and text so much that they were hard to see. This is a misrepresentation from my perspective. The CS at Best Buy tried another Vivoactive and it too was hard to see. I really liked the look, feel and how the watch felt on my wrist, but I had to return it.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear your vívoactive's screen was not bright enough for you to see images and texts. For future reference, you may manually turn the back the backlight on by pressing the action button/key and adjust the timeout duration by pressing the action key and selecting System > System > Backlight > Timeout. There you will find an option in the Backlight settings to keep the backlight always on, however, keep in mind this will impact the battery charge.

Visit www.garmin.com/support to reach out to Garmin Customer Care if you have any questions about the vívoactive.

Again, thank you for your review. {CW} Garmin

I wanted to love this watch......

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

But I really really dont. I upgraded from a vivofit which is also from Garmin. I liked th ewatch for basic activity tracking and the fact that it graphed my HRM BUT in order to keep the HRM on you had to constantly have the watch in motion. I also have a misfit (not a good tracker) and a Polar FT4 which I love for HR tracking but it doesn't allow uploading. I figured this would be the perfect in between. Boy was I wrong. Other items I've purchased online I was allowed to return in store but of course this watch I have to send back via UPS then WAIT until they process it before they will send me an email asking if I want a refund or a replacement..... then however long after that to get something new. So what don't I like? The heart rate is nearly impossible to get to show up in the software. The proprietary HR app doesn't even work properly and it takes forever for this thing to lock onto GPS. In fact, most of the time it only locks on if its connected to the phone so what is the purpose of an onboard GPS chip if it's basically useless unless it can connect to my phone? You can't do squat on it without the connect and half of the apps and datafields DO NOT WORK on the VIVOACTIVE. That's a little tidbit no one seems to mention in their reviews. It's like buying a Vizio Smart TV and expecting there to be an abundance of apps. Keep dreaming. And this literally costs as much as a TV. No thanks.

I have used a simple Garmin watch and an UP band to monitor and motivate me to move. I bike, hike, run, and x-country ski. While running my phone would vibrate and I would think...should I check to see if it's important? Not anymore. Easy to set up, easy to use, easy to see even in bright sunlight. I'm so glad I finally switched from 2 different tracking devices to this one.
