This door open and close spring mechanism is notably louder on this new unit although the actual operating sound is comparable to the old. It seems that the new design does not take into consideration the sound of metal on metal, and vibration of glass platten. Rubber coating on selected elements would surely dampen the sound of opening and closing the door. Functionality of the new microwave is very acceptable considering the price point of approximately $100.
