Customers are saying

Customers are delighted by the 4.5 cu ft Top Load Washer's cleaning performance, large capacity, and ease of use, frequently praising its spacious tub and the inclusion of an agitator. However, a significant number of customers reported that the washer is quite loud and that the spin cycle could be improved. Some also mentioned issues with the washer's balance and occasional reliability problems. A few users expressed concerns about the lid lock feature.

    Electronics don't last

3 years old. Fills with water during spin cycle. Manufacturer keeps saying it may add small amounts of water in spin and this is normal. That's not what it does anymore. The washer spins, fills the tub completely full of water, then drains. Everything is soaking wet every cycle. Independent repair man says the control board is bad. $150 part and he says it often doesn't fix it when replaced. Great... garbage.

We returned it! A metal banging sound occurred everytime the water filled and emptied. The washing sounded like rubber forced against rubber. Geek squad took it apart and found nothing wrong with it?

POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD. STARTS ON ITS OWN

I purchased this washer 2 years ago. In the past week, my washer filled with water and would not agitate. I placed a call to a service repair man to come out. the very next day the washer began washing on its own. No one touched we woke up and it had started. So of course we cancelled the service repair. I washed 3-4 loads of clothes with no problem. No the washer will not fill. I placed another call to the service repair, who came out the same day. As he did his diagnostic tests, the washer would not fill and them began to make grinding noises. He could not figure out the problem, so he didn't charge me his normal service charge (thank goodness). He also said because of the grinding and it starting on its own I need to keep it unplugged because it may be a fire hazard. Now i have a 2 year old washer I cannot use I never post reviews but this is ridiculous.

We really liked this washer. It cleaned clothes really good, but sadly after 3 years of normal use it has a bad transmission (an almost $500 repair). We opted to replace it rather than repair. The washer I had before this one lasted 17 years. This one barely made it 3. It's sad how everything is fancy and efficient now, yet it won't last. I won't be buying a GE to replace this one because I don't want to give them the satisfaction of selling me 2 washers when the first one they sold me was crap.

I bought this machine. Didn’t get a chance to try it out. The guys broke the water valve and left with my machine after saying they’d leave it! I paid for it, it’s paid for but Best Buy took it back without my permission! This has been a very unprofessional experience. When I called the delivery guys to ask why, they hung up on me.

This washer is horrible! Doesn’t have the middle rotor inside so things just slosh around and come out just as dirty. I can hand wash better than this!

When you spend this much for a washing machine that cannot ever wash two king size sheets at the same time, you have wasted your money. Even one king size sheet can cause a problem. The machine is not off balance, it simply cannot deal with a heavy load. Sorry I bought it.

Hey there, and thanks for reaching out to us about your experience with this washer. We truly hate to hear you’ve had an issue with not being able to wash two king size sheets at once, and have even had trouble with one. We know any issue with not being able to properly wash your items would cause frustration – this certainly isn’t the great ownership experience we want for you. Whether the washer can accommodate a certain item will depend on size, thickness (especially for comforters), etc. However, we expect this model to accommodate some king and queen size comforters, 20 lb. weighted blanket covers, etc.; we therefore would generally anticipate the machine being able to wash thinner sheets. If you are using the Towels/Sheets cycle and experiencing trouble, using the Bulky Items cycle may work better. As long as the machine has been properly leveled, the items are loaded evenly and loosely around the basket, and the load is not too small or too large, the washer should be able to wash the sheets without issue. If it might help, we have information on leveling in the manual, as well as a troubleshooting section starting on page 23. The installation instructions, starting on page 18, also provides other information if you want to ensure everything is set up correctly for the washer to agitate without issue. To view that manual, simply go to our GE website and look up the model number. We hope this information is useful, but if you continue to have trouble our Service Department is available at 1-800-432-2737; a technician would be glad to help get the washer in good working order. If you have any other inquiries or concerns, we are always happy to assist! -Sarah@GEA GE_Appliances

This washing machine wrinkles clothes extremely bad.

We're sorry to hear that your clothes are becoming wrinkled from your washer. We know what a pain this can add to laundry day and would love to help. Here are some tips: avoid laundering heavy permanent press items such as work clothes with lighter permanent press items such as shirts or blouses; do not wash permanent press or delicate items with ordinary items such as towels, bed linens, jeans, etcetera; items in the wash basket must have room to move freely. Delicate loads should always be smaller than regular loads and no more than a medium load size for the best results; select the correct wash cycle based on the garment type. You can check the Owner's Manual for the specific washer model you own for wash cycle suggestions for the items you need to wash; on older models with selectable water levels, try using a full water fill for a medium load or a medium fill for a small load; the proper use of fabric softener will minimize wrinkling. Please let us know if these troubleshooting tips help. We are here for you. -Chris@GEA GE_Appliances
