Posted .Hey there, and thanks for taking the time to let us know of your experience. While we’re glad you like this top-load washer overall, we truly hate to hear you are disappointed that the lid needs to be closed in order to start the washing process; we regret any inconvenience this may cause. The wash cycle can only be started with the lid open when you use the Bulky cycle. However, if you have already closed and locked the lid and find you need to add another item, you can press Start/Pause button. Wait until the Lid Lock indicator light disappears before attempting to open (if the washer is spinning too quickly it may take a couple minutes for the lid to unlock, for safety reasons), submerge the item around the outside of the basket, then simply close the lid and press Start. Please note that the cycle will cancel and the water will drain if the lid is left open more than 15 minutes. When cycling it begins to hit the sides of the washer and it does not drain my clothes so when the cycle is done my clothes is still dripping wet. If you’re looking to buy a new washer please look elsewhere this is not the one!

Called GE and they wanted me to wait 13 days before I got a service tech to look at it. No thank you, took them back to Best Buy and got different brand. Caution: GE is not the same as they once was
