Great Daily Ice Maker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What a great daily home ice maker!! Got this delivered and unboxing was a snap - Only have to assemble the side tank and hose. Getting the maker ready for use was easy as well. They have you run clean water and cleaner through the machine. I followed the directions and did the process 2xtimes. I would suggest a few more as I had a slightly off taste to my first container of ice. Once the setup is complete I moved the maker to its location. It did just barely fit under my cabinet! As the maker comes in at 16 inches, I had 16.5 inches clearance. This shouldn't be a problem as most cabinets are 18 inches from the counter. But be sure to measure first! I did set up the wireless application that allows you to control the unit light, schedule, cleaning. Although, I rarely use it. I don't think I will find this app useful - as it will just be another "smart" thing LOL Be advise I had to download a different application than what is in the directions. I do love the finish - stainless steel and grey plastic with clear container/scoop. It looks right at home next to my refrigerator!! The primary feature to me of this maker is the TYPE of ice it makes - NUGGET! I love this type of ice as I do like to eat ice. And this is my preferred kind as it crushes easily!! I have it set to constantly make ice - as the ice melts - it gets processed right back into ice via the lower water container. It will make about a pound an hour and the container holds about 3-4 pounds. The container serves the family in the AM. The wife fills a large YETI for work, then I and 2 kids usually fill a glass each. This usually empties about 2/3 of the container. I find I have to fill the side container about every couple of days. Its quite easy, as it just lifts out of the holder. I do wish the unit came with a water filter(Opal Filter Capable) but for now, we just get filtered water from the fridge. Operating noise does have a drone effect. I don't think its loud but if you have it nearby I might be an annoyance. I can hear it from the other room but again it's a low noise that quickly becomes just background. I do not have an issue with it at all. Great little addition to the kitchen that provides ice that is better than the typical cube style. It looks great and performs well. Although it is IMO a little on the pricey side. So try to catch on sale! Reduced to 4 Star - Suggestion on app utilization would be nice, no filter included. It is a little pricey, although it is pretty!!! What really brings this rating down - no Hard waterline option!! This option would make the product very low touch!!!

Stay away!
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It worked great for the first month. Then the internal machinery started making awful sounds and eventually, something went so wrong inside the unit that it sheared off the metal bolt. Very poor construction. And they have a terrible warranty. I cannot stress this enough...Stay away!

Cream of the crop ice maker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The GE Profile ice maker is probably hands down one the best residential ice makers i have ever owned or used. Coming from a guy who has a wife that loves ice so much that we have personally gone through 4 different ice makers i can say this one takes the cake. But at this price point is this going to be right fit for you? Hopefully this review will help to serve in your decision making. First things first, lets talk about the basics. Out of the box you get everything you need to set it up including the instruction manual, drip tray and scoop. Set up is super easy and should really only take a couple minutes after you clean the unit. Speaking of which this unit offers a nice little helper in the way of a self cleaner. When put in to to self clean mode it will cycle the system with water assuring that everything is cleaned properly then once complete simply detach the drain hose from the back and hold it over a sink and pull the plug. Its just that easy. At first glance i was very happy with how simplistic but yet modern it looked. For example the unit contains no raised buttons on the surface. Everything is done by simple pressure touch. I love this feature on my electronics. The unit comes in at one of the biggest units i have ever owned at roughly 16 3/4 inches tall and 10 inches wide with side tank off and 13 inches with side tank attached. Luckily it was still able to fit on my counter top and slid perfectly under my cabinets. Lets get in to the function and ice production part. First i want to talk briefly about the wifi feature. Yes that's right you can download the smart HQ app and access your ice maker all via the app. I have to say im not a big fan of this feature at all and can not personally see myself using it in the future. First off set up was kind of a pain and intrusive as well. In order to use the app they want alot of personal information about you which i really didn't like. They want cell number and personal home address which i feel is very unnecessary to simply access a tiny amount of features this app service offers. What exactly does it offer? Well through the app you can turn the led light on and off, check ice maker status, turn the unit on and off and set up ice making schedules. For me this really seems pointless and useless as the unit by itself is pretty much set it and forget it. With that out of the way lets talk ice. One of the biggest issues i always had is that all the previous ice makers i have ever owned really never produced enough ice to handle my family of five. What i mean by this is that in the past my ice makers would make enough to fill two glasses of ice and then you would have to wait about 10 mins for the machine to start making more. With this unit that is not the case whatsoever. In the beginning it took about 3 hours to completely fill the tray but that's because this a big and i mean BIG tray. It makes enough ice for my family of five to fill their cups and still have plenty left over. The nice thing is once it gets going it is producing pieces of ice about every 10 seconds. Also the ice is great!!! Its not the bullet ice and its not ice cubes. They are pellet ice similar to the kind you would find at Sonics, the hospitals and certain movie theaters. For me personally i think ice is ice but my wife would say different. For her to tell me this machine makes the best ice out there really means something. Now one thing this unit does not offer is the ability to change the ice itself. What i mean is you cannot change the size or shape of the ice. What you see in the pictures is what you get, which isn't a bad thing. Here's the bottom line. This machine is one of the best ice makers in my opinion that comes in Residential grade. Is it for everyone? Absolutely not. If your a single person living by yourself then this is going to be over kill for you. However if you have a big family, lots of employees or plan on entertaining then this the perfect bit for you. Yes, its not the cheapest one out there but believe when i say you get exactly what you pay for. The unit is sleek, produces lots of ice and is quiet. There is no way you can go wrong with any GE products in my opinion. For me this is the perfect fit for my family and my picky wife.

Great appliance that works fast!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.GE Profile - Opal 24-lb. Portable Ice maker with Nugget Ice Production and WiFi - Stainless steel Summary: A robust, sleek workhorse that produces chewable nugget-styled ice fast. Pros: * Fast. The unit starts producing ice pretty quickly. The size of the nuggets helps it accomplish this. * Unique Ice. If you like the ice that chills your limades from your favorite drive-in restaurant, you'll love this unit. * Sleek. This unit has a pleasing ratio of plastic moulding/trim and stainless steel. * Easy to use. The touch controls are easy to use and easy to keep clean. * Cool lighting. I didn't think an ice machine could look cool because of lighting. But it can. This unit offers three modes: Bright, Medium, Off. * Compact. I know the dimensions seemed offputting, but I am pleased to confirm that the footprint for this machine is counter friendly. * Additional Side Tank. The side tank makes keeping this unit continuously producing ice a little bit easier. * Built-in Reservoir. The build-in reservoir is clever. It sits below the collection chamber/tray. It also collects water from ice that melts to be recycled into the Circle-of-Ice. * Included Scoop. The included scoop scoops just the right amount of ice and is easy to use. I don't leave mine inside, however. * Smart. This is a "smart" appliance and allows for app connectivity via Bluetooth. I'm not sure how I'll use this feature, but z-wave/zigbee would have been more helpful for true "smart" capabilities. Cons: * Skirt. The provided skirt is appreciated, but I would have loved one that was retractable. I suppose the provided unit does make it easier to clean, however. * Tray/Bin. The bin/tray is convenient and easy to remove. But, without phalanges to prevent run-off, pulling it out to get some ice will allow condensation/moisture that collects on the bottom to run down towards the front of the bin. This in turns ends up on the skirt and on the front of the unit. This is easy to clean, but it is something to note. You'll want to keep a rag nearby. * Plumb-In Option. Not readily able to be plumbed in. Use: I got this ice maker because I wanted to have something more readily on hand and better suited to preparing drinks. We also use a lot of ice through out the day. Rather than use it exclusively for entertaining, it has a home next to the fridge where we now use it for *all* chilled beverages. The texture and size of the ice means less volume of drinkable liquid, but it does a great job keeping that liquid chilled without an effect of quickly watering down a beverage. The ice is also easily chewable. I love it!

Almost Perfect - but the cleaning, geez.
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start by saying I love this product overall. The ice is just like your grandma used to make, if your grandmother owned a Sonic or Chick-fil-a. We have a family of 5 and when I bought it, some of them thought I was crazy. Guess who uses the most ice now, huh? Actually, it's me, but they use a lot of it, too. The side tank is great because I don't have to take the ice tray out to pour water into it. Get it. The only downside is that it starts flashing for you to clean it like a week after you get it. I live in a place where some people may or may not have died from a bacteria that lives in cold temperatures, so now I'm paranoid that if I don't clean it when it tells me to, I'm going to be responsible for the deaths of my family and friends. Funny thing is, I've never once cleaned the ice maker in my freezer, so now I'm confused. I guess if you can live with cleaning it regularly and love to crunch on ice, you should get this machine. Also, if you're not willing to clean it every few weeks, but like living on the edge - like, you can make someone deathly ill type of edge - you should also get this machine. But if they ever make one you don't have to clean regularly, you should buy that one. Unless it costs thousands of dollars, like the built-in ones. Then I guess take your chances. What I'm saying is, this thing makes really, really good ice and is mostly easy to use. Except for the cleaning thing.

Posted .Hi - thanks so much for your enthusiastic review! It’s delightful to hear how much you love your Opal and that it’s brought so much joy to your friends and family. Your feedback on the cleaning is much appreciated, and we will certainly share your insights with our product development team for future improvements. However, you can rest assured that as long as you are using potable (safe to drink) water, the Opal has been rigorously tested for safety. In fact, some owners may choose to use only distilled water in their Opal. If using only distilled water, we recommend cleaning monthly and you will most likely not need to remove mineral deposits. We hope this is helpful and are confident that your ice maker will remain a favorite in your home for years to come. Stay cool! Lauren@GEAppliances

Awesome, but noisy RIGHT AFTER warranty expires
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great ice machine if you are a true lover and believer in “nugget ice”, “the good ice”, or “hospital ice”. Relatively easy to use, only issue seems to be that it developed a “screeching noise” when making ice. It appears to be a common problem. There are several documented cases on “YouTube”, just look for the name of the product and noise and sure enough, it’s there. Im currently seeking information on warranty as this seems to be an ongoing issue. For $600; this needs to be addressed or at least fixed for free/replaced. It’s not a bad idea to buy the extended warranty BUT that could take this units price up another $100 or more. It’s “the good ice”, but for the pain and price, it may be cheaper to take a few 2 gallon ziplock bags to a chicken place that sounds similar to “braising cranes” and fill up there. Not endorsing this action, just what I’ve hear is an alternative for paying $600 for a countertop ice maker. Lastly, cleaning is a bit of a pain. Yes, it can be done but no only do you have to clean it regularly (please be near a sink or the mess will be huge); great thing the unit tells you it needs to be cleaned. However you still must “descale” the unit and there is no indication other than the manual/instruction book when you first set it up.

A Game-Changer in Ice Making - GE Profile Opal 2.0
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having owned the GE Profile Opal 2.0 Ice Maker for about 1.5 years, I can confidently say that it has significantly outperformed other ice makers I've used in the past. Its efficiency and speed in ice production are commendable, making it a reliable appliance in my kitchen. One of the most impressive aspects is the quality of the ice. The nuggets are consistently great, which is a testament to the machine's superior functionality. When it comes to design, it's a winner. The sleek stainless steel finish complements my kitchen's aesthetics, and its size fits perfectly on our countertop without taking up unnecessary space. User-friendliness is another feature where this ice maker shines. The WiFi function, which allows for automatic turning on and off, is a feature I find particularly useful. It's a smart addition that elevates my user experience by offering convenience and efficiency. In terms of noise, the machine operates at an acceptable sound level. It's not disruptive, which is a relief compared to other noisy appliances. Maintenance, a crucial factor for any kitchen appliance, is hassle-free. Cleaning the Opal 2.0 is more straightforward than other ice makers I've owned, making it less of a chore and more of a simple routine task. Overall, my experience with the GE Profile Opal 2.0 Ice Maker has been overwhelmingly positive. It's an excellent investment for anyone who values efficiency, design, and ease of use in a kitchen appliance. I highly recommend it to those in search of a top-notch ice maker that delivers on its promises.

Nugget Ice is the Best
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I couldn't wait to get this this is the BEST ICE around. No more going to Sonic and buying bags of ice. This is the perfect ice maker to have. So we have had it for a week now and that is the only ice we use we no longer use the ice from the Fridge. This is great to have you don't have to hook it up to any water lines all you do is fill the container that holds 5 cups of water and then fill the side water container that hold 96oz of water and you are good to go. Fits on the countertop and under the cabnet perfect size all you need to do is make sure there is a plug near by. it makes ice in about 45 min and runs until it gets full that is around 3lbs of ice. It wont over fill and wont spill you don't have to worry about melting ice it runs right back into the water reservoir and it makes it back to ice again. Now this isn't the hard ice you really can't use it to fill s cooler with and keep it in that all day. This is soft ice great for drinks and if you like chewing on ice it wont hurt your teeth. We have had people over and they all love it. So when it is running it can be a little loud you will hear the motor working but if you are home you can just power it off and run it when you got to sleep or leave. I have tuned it out if you put it next to a cabnet it might cut some of the noise out. But overall it not that loud. This is a great ICE MAKER and we have enjoyed it.

Nugget Ice for FUN, Parties, & Grandkids' Treats
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow! What a versatile ice machine. I never knew that I needed an Ice Machine until I was fortunate enough to review this GE Profile Opal 2.0 24-lb Portable Ice Maker with Nugget Ice Production and WiFi in exchange for the actual product. Now, I am wondering how I ever did without it. It is pricey folks, but ”You get what you pay for”. It is mostly made of Stainless Steel. General Electric has been making appliances for over a century. Their reputation for innovation and reliability is stellar. This particular Nugget Ice Maker is designed to be a portable, counter top appliance in your kitchen, or, where ever you want to place it for convenience. I have it on top of my beverage/wine cooler for convenience so I can add a scoop or two of nuggets to my drink. My Grandkids love this Nugget Ice Machine because the ice is so chewable and Grandma adds flavored syrup to this Summer-Cooling Treat (see pic)! WooHoo! Why do I love this GE Profile Opal Nugget Ice Maker: ** EASY INSTALLATION & SET UP – Out of the box I had this Nugget Ice Maker dropping ice within an hour and thirty minutes. A Quick-Start Guide and Owners Manual is included detailing the cleansing and sanitation process of all included parts and internal components. The manuals are comprehensive and include detailed illustrations. I took approximately thirty minutes to digest the provided information, and, set-up this Nugget Ice Maker. TIP: Set this unit up initially near your sink – It makes the cleansing and sanitation process so much simpler. ** BUILD – This unit is made of Stainless Steel and quality, food-grade plastic. It is NOT light. The entire unit weighs over 38 pounds. Although it is 'portable', it is heavy and folks with limited physical strength should be cautioned. As the manufacturer suggests - It is safer for two people to move this unit. The Stainless Steel is a 'brushed-finish', which is easily cleaned and somewhat finger print resistant. Care and Maintenance only requires simple cleaning and wiping down the unit's exterior. A Stainless Steel Cleaner/Polisher keeps my unit looking brand new. . . .YooHoo! ** MAKING ICE – After sanitizing the interior components of this unit and rinsing several times, comes the best part, making Nugget Ice. I live I rural North Florida and use 'filtered' well-water. Calcium carbonate is the biggest enemy in my drinking and household water. So, I have installed a filter system, which filters the calcium carbonate, sediment, and detrimental minerals. My water is 'now sweet-tasting' and great for coffee, tea, and ice making. After 'Cleaning', Rinsing, and Draining the system several times I was ready to fill the internal reservoir, and make ice. YIKES! The Nugget Ice is sweet, chewable, and YUMMY! This machine makes ice quickly, and recycles the melted ice water into more nugget ice. GREAT! ** ADVANTAGES OF GE NUGGET ICE – Since there is more surface square area of nugget ice and many times more number of ice cubes compared to larger conventional cubes the ice makes my drinks get colder much quicker. Yes, the ice is chewable, but, can also be used as a decorative underlayment for fresh salmon, shrimp, and, or, lobster hors d'oeuvres. How cool is that? This is a fantastic Nugget Ice Machine for parties, family, and 'neighbor-get-to-togethers'. It is also a great conversation piece. ** CARE & MAINTENANCE – The quality of water is so important to this ice maker. Filtered water like mine will maintain the continued benefits of sweet-tasting nugget ice cubes. However, after three weeks of daily 'operation', I recommend a clean and sanitation process of at least once a week. It is NOT difficult and does NOT take much valuable time. If you have mineral deposits, which is probably the norm for most households, please follow the included instructions detailed in the Owners Manual. This GE Profile Opal 2.0 24-lb Portable Ice Maker with Nugget Ice Production will provide you quality, great-tasting nuggets if you follow the 'Care & Maintenance Instructions. Do NOT place any components in the Dishwasher. ** WI-FI APP – GE needs do to some serious work on this App. It is NOT user-friendly at this time. I used the latest version of I-Phone and Android to download and connect to this App. No connection. My Wi-Fi router did NOT recognize this unit and I could NOT Bluetooth with this App. Oh' well - This GE Profile Nugget Ice Maker still produces delicious nuggets without this App. I do NOT use this App because I have determined it is NOT necessary to the successful operation of this GE unit. However, you may find it most helpful. . . . ** VERSATIITY – Of course this GE Nugget Ice Machine produces chewable nuggets, which are storeable in my freezer, but it also is a great party accessory. When I have treasured family members, and, or, close-neighbors over for some 'libations' – this is a great party center of attention. They all love the nugget ice cubes. . . .and, the classy looks of this GE Profile Nugget Ice Maker. It makes great Tasty-Icy-Nugget-Summer-Treats for kids & Grandkids. ** TOUCH CONTROLS – It does NOT get any easier then the GE Touch Controls to Clean, Turn ON Power, and the UV Light. Do NOT directly into the UV Light – It can cause serious eye damage. After 'cleaning' just a touch of the Power Button is all that the 'Making Ice' function is activated – When the Internal Reservoir is filled and the Ice Bin is in place. It lets me know when its making ice and out of water. ** ADDITIONAL TANK – Wow! This is what keeps this GE Nugget Ice Maker going for hours. It gives this unit 3-times the ice capacity over just filing the reservoir alone. Twenty-Four pounds of ice producing capacity. GREAT! Lovei t! ** SUMMARY – This GE Profile Opal 2.0 24-lb Portable Ice Maker with Nugget Ice Production and WiFi is an outstanding home, party, versatile, nugget ice machine. I highly recommend this nugget ice machine if you want quality, reliability, and ease of operation. Ifyou haechildren or Grandchildren they will also LOVE it!

Great soft ice!
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Makes perfect soft ice if you are someone who likes to eat ice. It was great for when I was stuck home after a medical issue drinking a lot of ice water and eating ice. Getting the side tank with it is best way to go if you go through quite a bit of ice in a day as we do. The negatives are the higher cost and that it does require more maintenance - cleaning pretty regularly, unlike the other model we had that makes the bullet style ice. It will start making noise if not cleaned regularly and has recently started making more noise before saying it needs cleaned. After some research online - I found that it sometimes needs to be taken apart to thoroughly clean it inside and I have not done that yet. We have just been running vinegar through it for cleaning as recommended by the manufacture. So just do your research before investing the money (it is not cheap) to see if it worth it to you to have the better ice. The ice it makes is a 5 star rating, but the cost and extra maintenance is why I rated it a 4.

Best nugget ice from home; however, quite pricey.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Noise: Before purchasing this unit, I read quite a few different reviews in which people were saying this ice maker is loud and, sometimes, even to the point where it is unbearable. After owning this for a week or so, I've had zero issues with noise. I have it placed in my kitchen where my living room is connected and the only thing I can hear is the ice dropping into the basket. There IS a humming sound when the unit is running, but again... I can't actually hear it unless I'm standing directly in front of the machine. Ice quality: You're definitely getting what you pay for when it comes to the quality of the ice. The nugget ice is chewable and, in my opinion, the best kind of ice you can get. Unfortunately, don't expect to turn the machine on and have quality ice in 5 minutes. Like any ice maker, you have to let the ice build-up before it's really useable. The ice made initially melts extremely quickly. With that said, it takes about 30 minutes to an hour to have a decent amount of usable ice, which is kind of unfortunate, but what can you expect. The unit: It's good quality, feels well put together, and definitely looks nice. However, it's pretty big. If you have limited counter space, this might be something to consider before purchasing. Additionally, cleaning the side tank, ice bucket, inside of the actual unit, tubes, running bleach/water through it multiple times, etc. takes quite a bit of time but is something GE recommends to do weekly. Overall: I'm happy with this purchase. It's a quality ice maker that I'm sure will last years to come. I've had a cheaper $100 ice maker and it in no way compares to the GE Profile - Opal 2.0. If you want the best nugget ice from home, this machine is as good as it gets. If you just want a portable ice maker, I'd recommend getting a way cheaper model. For $599, I can't help but think there are some areas that could have been improved and for that, I have to deduct one star. Overall, this a good machine and I'm satisfied with my purchase.

It’s not life changing
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It works well, produces ice fairly quickly. It’s great having good ice that is easily accessible. It’s very large, but isn’t an eye sore. I am definitely glad that I got the model with the side tank. It was quick to set up, but I was very surprised the setup instructions say you should run bleach through it for the initial cleaning. I did not, and instead just ran the clean cycle several additional times. The ice tasted a little funky at first, but that went away pretty quickly. The unit runs frequently and is a bit loud. It’s not completely disruptive / doesn’t bother me much, but just be ready for that. It’s definitely a nice machine and I didn’t have any issues with it producing ice. This is not the life changing machine that for some reason I was expecting. If I didn’t have gift cards from my credit card rewards points, I would 100% be returning this because it is so expensive and definitely more of a ‘nice to have’ instead of something I needed.

Waste of money
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Save your money, the unit is horrible. Makes ice very slow, when defrosting the noise is extremely loud. Makes random loud noises when making ice too. It’s not from scaling, happened first day I used it. Always says low water but tank is full, there are better options for less money.
