    Lots of issues after 1.5 years

    We have tons of issues after 1.5 years. We cleaned it religiously every month and we are constantly getting a defrost issues. Expensive item to quite so soon.

      We can understand how upsetting this would be for you and your family and would like to offer some troubleshooting that may help. If the water well is filled to the upper fill line and no ice is being produced, please perform this simple test: 1. Please start the Opal and switch to cleaning mode. Don't forget to detach the side tank. 2. Remove the screen/filter at the bottom corner of the reservoir, exposing the small white rubber inlet used for water circulation. 3. Make certain that the Opal is not connected to the phone app and that the water well is filled to the upper fill line with distilled water. 4. Remove the ice bin and press the button to see if the Opal pumps water. This could take up to 5 minutes to start. 5. Plug the small inlet with your finger for 10-15 seconds to create a vacuum within the pump/circulation system. 6. Release the plug and wait a minute or until you see water movement. 7. If you do not see a change, you may want to repeat these steps a couple of times. Note: If you see water movement, please switch to ice mode and run for 30 minutes. **You may also need to prime your pump so try using a Turkey Baster/Injector and gently fill the hose that doesn't go to the side tank with water, and then restart the machine. If this doesn't help, please reach out to Opal Service at 1-866-907-6718, M-F 8:00-8:00 EST. GE_Appliances

    I loved this product for the first year. After it hit one year the following problems happened: - tank started leaking - mold would grow inside (even when following the recommended cleaning schedule and using filtered water) - now it suddenly stopped producing ice all together. Save your money and buy something with a better guarantee.

    Awesome, convenient Ice! - Ridiculously expensive

    If you like Nugget Ice, it's the only game in town, so there's that. It makes great ice fast. We've used ours all day, every day, since we purchased it for Christmas. They are quirky and sensitive to hard water build up on the sensors and ice-making mechanism. Suggest distilled water only for better results. Pros: A never-ending, beautiful pile of Nugget ice on your counter. Cons: This thing is ridiculously expensive. Like ridiculously. Totally paying for the convenience of this. There is nothing inside this machine to justify even half the market price. You could buy a chest freezer and eight years worth of ice from Sonic for the same cost. Which is WAY longer than this thing will last. Which brings me to the next con - reliability. Get. The. Extended. Warranty. We had problems with it randomly shutting off within weeks of purchase. And then the pump died after barely six months of use. That's almost a hundred bucks per month for pellet ice on your counter. This is the only product on earth I will buy an extended warranty for. The app sucked. Support was great on it to reach out and really find out what was wrong, and keep me updated on fixes, which was cool, "if" you're willing to put that much time into corresponding with tech support for an app for your ice maker... A recent release fixed the scheduling issues, so at least now you can create a schedule for your ice maker. Buy why? I can't think of any other real reason to have a Wifi connected ice-maker. I mean, man, I REALLY love pellet ice, but I don't have a need to check on its status, or remotely dim the LED light that so sexily illuminates my pile of pellets while I'm away at work and stuff. It's a big meh. Overall, you just are paying (a ton) for the luxury of a steady supply of in-home nugget ice. It is what it is. Would I recommend this to a friend? I guess, kind of. It IS the only game in town so if you want nugget ice, this is it.

    Bought April 12, 2021. Already broke, customer service is non existent! Waste of $549!

    They sold me a used Icemaker

    The icemaker I got had actual dirt in the inside were the cooling fan is and had alot of scratches on it. When I took it back less then 2 hours after getting it, the store manager told me that was because I used it.(took it out for maybe 15 mins NEVER used it)

    I want to buy this icemaker That makes nugget ice it took over 3 hours and still it wasn't even halfway I would not recommend this if you are ice fast And the container on the side that holds the water you have to keep refilling it so I did not like it I returned back

    Worked great for right at a year. At the end of the year the icemaker stopped working. Husband almost always buys the warranty but missed it on this. Now i have a 600 dollar huge paper weight. Very disappointed

You may want to try disconnecting the unit from power for about three to four hours before plugging back in. That resets the unit and can often resolve an issue.     Failed After 3 Months

    Owned less than 3 months and constant "Add Water" notification even though the tank is full. It will not make ice with that notification. Unplugging and plugging back in would clear it for a couple of hours but then came back on. I had Geek Squad and they replaced the unit but since they cancel Geek Squad when you make a claim it was like I rented the Opal for $30/month. Not a good experience.

    Ice maker

    I sent this back . Once the ice container fills up it starts melting in the bottom and goes back in reservoir of water. This didn’t fill our ice needs. I was very disappointed. I even tried putting ice after it was made in freezer. The problem with that was the ice clump together and defeated the purpose of small ice. The water reservoir held only a cup or two of water that u had to constantly fill

    I bought one that was supposedly in excellent condition....like new. It came to me with a rip in the box and half taped up. Opened it up and pieces were missing and the water tank was cracked and the stainless casing was all dented in like it had been dropped over and over. What a waste of time and a bad joke. At least I was able to return it and get my money back. But still a hassle!

    I hate it! My ice is melted inside the tray. It leaks to much every time I open the tray to get Ice. I am not happy with this purchase. I do not recommend it!

      We appreciate you reaching out to us. For the leaking issue, please make sure the drip tray has been installed correctly. Also, the Opal is not designed to keep the ice frozen in the bin. With time, the ice melts and the water from the melted ice is recirculated to make fresh ice as needed. If this does not help with your concerns, please unplug the Opal for 2-3 minutes to reset the electronics. Please make sure you have a minimum of 4" of air clearance on all sides and at the back of the Opal. If needed, use a hand vacuum to clean the side vents and run your Opal through the cleaning/descaling process explained in the online Owner's Manual. If you continue to have concerns, please call 1-866-907-6718 to discuss any options available to you. GE_Appliances

    Water sensor

    Water sensor started acting up with in a month and brook one year and month after purchase just out side of the warranty period. Customer service won't give or sell me the part that is broken. Instead they want $250.00 to fix it. Don't get fleeced by the OPAL branch of GE

    I paid $620 plus for this and it didn't even last 18 months. Horrible quality, definitely don't get your moneys worth.
