Great machine!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So it will get dirty. Vinegar takes most of the buildup off. But most of all.. buy the extended warranty or you’ll wish you did. On my 3rd one in just over 2 years. First one I cleaned almost weekly and it lasted 6 months. Cleaned the 2nd one every 3 months unless it started squeaking (it’s saying CLEAN ME! lol) a cleaning will take the life scale and mineral buildup. I’ve heard distilled water is better but it tastes like crap.

Fantastic Machine
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was in the market for an easy to use ice maker for parties that didn't need to be connected to a water source. I've been nothing but happy with this unit. It makes a fair amount of noise but it fits perfectly on the counter top, keeps up with the party, and it makes the best ice!

Great for a household of 4 Adults.
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The GE Profile Opal 2.0 is fantastic for a household of four adults, producing plenty of nugget ice quickly. The ice quality is great, and using RO water and the GE filter helps keep it clean. It’s a bit noisy, but that’s manageable given how well it works. My only gripe is the design of the water tank cap—it’s tricky to unscrew and refill without touching it directly, so I end up using a napkin to keep everything clean. Overall, it's a great ice maker with just a few minor design tweaks needed.

so far it's awesome
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great unit. Works better than I expected. It makes ice faster than expected. Good design and performance. Power outage the ice just melts back into the water tank. Wouldn't want it without the side tank. Wifi wasn't too difficult to setup. Always cool to have an app on your phone to impress your techie friends. Reviews stated that it was loud but the only time you hear it is when it is making ice and it's still not loud. Matches my other GE Profile appliances but it does have a Profile price tag. If it performs for at least 4 years with no issues it will be worth every penny of. This thing has cut down my wife's trips to Sonic by 90% (who goes for the ice, apparently she did). Also makes a great nightlight.

Worth it!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My husband and I have been looking at this item for months but never saw it in the store. So as were are browsing our local BestBuy we see they have them in stock so we had to get it! Easy set up!! Instructions were simple on how to clean it before hand and how to start using it. Sits very nicely on our countertop. Once it makes the 3lbs of ice it shuts off and only comes on when some melts. So far we love this item!! Much better than the cheaper ice makers.

Great Ice Maker!!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To start off, we have had this ice maker for almost one month. We have had the other counter top versions of ice makers before and usually have to replace them acted a year. We decided to purchase this one to see if it would be better than the others. So far so good! In the last month the family has enjoyed the nugget style ice that it makes. Many reviews have stated this ice maker is noisy, we find it no more noisy than the others we have had before. The side tank is a must for this machine, I would hate to have to take out the holding tank and try to add water to it all of the time. Only thing that I am doing different from my other machines is running bottled water through it to make the ice. This has reduced the cleaning cycles due to the filtered water. We are not having any staining or other issues as well. Hope this helps!

Great ice, easy to use machine
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We're about a week into ownership and so far its working great. I had researched this for a while, after reviews of the first generation I was unsure but appears that the v2.0 has resolved many of the common complaints. For me this fit perfectly under the counter in our kitchen. Instructions were very clear and easy to follow and get going on the first batch of ice. If you want firmer ice that lasts longer in drinks it's a good idea to bag up ice from the bin and put it in the freezer. By bagging it you can easily break it up. As the ice has a lot of water you will get some clumps. With the regular cleaning scheduled that's recommended having it close to your sink is a good idea. The Wifi and app are nice, though with us working from home I'm not sure we'll use the scheduling a lot for the time being.

Just like Sonic ice!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was a little hesitant about spending the money on this but so far so good. Had this for about 3 weeks and it has done what it is supposed to do. Ice is nice nugget size. We have made several batches of ice and then empty the bin into gallon size bags to put in the freezer. Some say it is loud but it doesnt seem loud to me. I bought the sxtended warranty with this because i didnt want to take a chance and this thing crap out after 6 months to a year. It has wifi and you can control it through a App. I like the resevoir because if it runs low on water it stops making ice until you fill it back up. So far i am happy with it.

Not perfect, but best-in-class
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you want the good ice, but don't want to spend 4 figures and give up a cabinet, this countertop nugget ice maker is wonderful. It's got a few quirks and flaws, but it has more positives. It looks good, the side tank makes it easy to refill, and it makes really nice ice. It is a little noisy, but not all the time. Your old ice maker has a cycle of different noises - it runs water into the thing, runs the compressor to freeze it and then dumps a bunch of big ice cubes into the bin all at once. This little ice maker mostly just makes the compressor humming sound and a constant plip-plip-plip of little ice nuggets dropping when it gets into its groove. Other times you might hear a funny, squeaky sound, or the sound of a dump truck's brakes as it tries to avoid driving through the nitroglycerine plant. Either way, the ice maker then puts itself through a defrost cycle and the noise is gone. I think that's the difference between buying it here at Best Buy, where you get the 'Opal 2.0' where they probably addressed the weird noises that everyone buying it from Amazon complained about. This thing keeps the ice pretty well, even over night, but there is one flaw - the ice nuggets melt slightly but then refreeze together (a sign that it's pretty well insulated) and they don't spread out evenly in the bin. I programmed mine to stop making ice at bedtime and start again at 5am so it's nice and full the next morning, but the pile of ice forms a peak towards the dispenser and triggers whatever the ice full sensor is and it never started making any more ice. I don't know why the ice doesn't bounce down the hill better, but I've made a habit of manipulating the ice pile often so it's all towards the front and there's room for more ice to drop. This ice maker is great, but get the warranty! Ice makers have lots of moving parts that spend all day encountering water and enduring its phase change in freezing temperatures. Ice is brutal! Nobody on this planet has ever had an ice maker that never once quit working.

Love this chewable ice!!!
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this ice maker. I definitely recommend the water tank on the side, I fill it up every other day. Only con would be running clean cycles more frequently if you use it. It does make a noise when it needs a clean cycle. Normally it’s ice built up inside somewhere so it kind of whistles. I normally do two cycles of hot water then one cycle of descaler (once every two months) and one or two more cleaning cycles to make sure it’s working well.

Can't go back...
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very nice machine. The extra water tank was well thought out and is really convenient. The ice is awesome, hospital ice or Sonic ice exact. The ice comes out nice and dry and it drops pellets about every 10 seconds. It does have some vibration noises with the stainless steel panels, but not a deal breaker. It could sound like a jet liner if it wanted to, for that ice, no complaints. I have it currently in my RV while I'm traveling. I'd put it in my jeep if I could. If you drink a lot of water, Dr. Pepper, get sprained ankles, this is the stuff. Put it in a yeti mug and it ices over like a snow ball. Problem is, if it breaks, I'll have to get another one because I don't think I can go back to standard ice...

Makes the good ice
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After getting everything hooked up & filled with water it didn't take long to start making ice. Smart HQ app is what to use because I did find a opal icemaker app that doesn't work for it. While using the app I can schedule times to make ice, check the status of it being full, currently making ice or off. It does make the exact ice I've purchased many times from the drive-in. I'm so happy I never have to run out for a cup of ice again because I am one of those people who loves ice alone. But as long as the reserve tank has water you won't run out of ice. I love this icemaker.

Research the problems - Opal + gearbox
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did like the ice this machine made. However, the maintenance and the issues it created were ridiculous. I live in an area with hard water, so purchased a waster distiller to use with this machine. Even with that, and continuing with regular maintenance of warm vinegar, this machine still had problems. Phone calls to GE, their solution is to 'hold your finger over the inlet and move it around' to everything. Every issue. In the first twelve months I think I called 3-4 times. I eventually stopped calling to figure it out on my own when an issue arose. After 16 months the machine broke. Because it was out of warranty I decided to take it a part to fix it myself. I disassembled the auger, no problems. Compressor no problems. Quickly I found the gearbox was the issue. Upon searching 'opal gearbox' I quickly discovered this was very common. For 600$ I expect a machine that I perform the required maintenance on to work for a lot longer than a year and a half. That's what, 33/month? For ice? I can buy ice at Sams for half that cost. Not to mention the HOURS of cleaning I spent, the HOURS AND HOURS of cleaning. Because i'm not satisfied with hard water / floaters in my ice system. I hate this machine. But I did like the ice.

Sonic Ice At Home!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife reallllllyy wanted a good ice maker and this doesn’t disappoint. This ice maker makes perfect ice and it replenishes quickly. I love the extra water tank, we can go roughly 3-4 days without needing to fill it. The only issue I have with it is it is loud. We can hear the ice machine from other parts of the house (1200sq ft). Outside of that set up was easy and as long as it has water it will make ice!

Great Ice for Drinks
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love the ice this machine makes and it is always full. The machine gets a little testy if you don't run the clean cycle once a week and starts to make little screeching sounds. Great machine overall and definitely recommend it.

Good when it works
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When this machine works, it works really well. However i recommend googling issues you could have with this machine. I would only use distilled water and no tap because a lot of people run into mineral build up in areas they cant easily reach and also the machine tends to overheat easily, with some people requiring an external fan to keep it functioning well. Overall This machine produces great ice but mine broke within one year, I believe it was a circuit issue as I never used tap and kept it clear of dust. Furthermore, getting support for this product can be difficult with cookie cutter responses from support they are not one size fit all. just be aware of this product possibly going out. would get extended warranty with this

Perfect for what we needed
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very Pleased with it so far. The ice is like sonic ice, lol! I saw the reviews about the noise and it ours is very quiet. only time it makes loud noise is if its been off for awhile. I gave it 4 stars because of the price. seems high but very well made and the extra reservoir is awesome for parties if left unattended. it keeps ice very well throughout the week. I would recommend over the other $200-300 options. worth the difference. looks great on the counter.

Love the Ice, New Unit Has Been Flawless
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the second Opal I’ve owned—my first one had several issues within the first year and struggled through the second until the extended warranty came to the rescue. Best Buy replaced it with this model, and I hate to jinx it, but after a year and 4 months it has been working flawlessly. The nugget ice it makes is fantastic—perfect chewable ice that’s just as good after the drink is gone. It is on the pricey side, but for us it’s been worth every penny.

Nice little ice maker.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife and I love the ice from this machine. It’s very easy to use and produces ice quickly. If I had a wish list for the engineers to consider in developing a new one, I would choose adding built in water filter, getting rid of all of the external plastic, so it looks better on a counter, and make it a little quieter.

Great little ice maker. Makes ice fast!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Does just what I wanted and apparently what everyone else in the household likes too!. Makes ice quickly, soft enough to chew if desired. A little noisy when making the ice, but overall a nice piece of equipment, relatively small footprint. Would be nice if the bin was insulated so the ice would not melt as quickly, but this is an ice maker, not an ice machine. Overall for the money, it is worth it. An ice machine is much more expensive and requires a water line!
