This was such a good investment. The ice maker quickly makes ice and it always has ice ready. It makes the perfect delicate cubes (even better than chick-fil-a’s ice). It is generally easy to manage to refill with water to make more ice. Only negative feedback to mention is that the ice maker is a little noisy when it does make ice.

Pros: (1) makes ice quickly. it's not instant, but you can start it in the morning and be ready for lunchtime refreshments. (2) the ice nuggets don't melt too quickly in the hopper. this means the machine is not running constantly to replace melted ice. (66F ambient temp). (3) No serious issues so far; everything working as expected. Cons: (1) the biggest issue for me is how the ice accumulates in the hopper. as the ice pile builds, it climbs up the back wall making a slope from back to front. the high level at the back of the hopper triggers the ice maker to stop making ice even though the front of the hopper has space. when that happens, you need to pull out the drawer and stir the ice to level it. it does not fill up completely as shown in the product photo without your intervention. (2) Noisy - personally, I don't mind too much as it's in our kitchen where there are lots of other noises :); (3) the capacity is not great if you are filling lots of glasses. It seems to be OK with two people, but four people might need to wait on ice for their next round of drinks. Usage note for the side tank: make sure the hose from the Side Tank to the rear of the Unit is lying completely flat. I tried "nearly flat" and it did not draw water properly.

Loved her! Was my only icemaker until I was able to get a replacement for my old Samsung fridge (that "made" ice in the fridge.. or didn't). [if you know, you know]. Able to keep up with demand, never ran out of ice once- unless the GFI blew or it was out of water. The recirculation feature is nice though and minimizes refills by using melted ice water. A bit of insulation on the ice bin would have been helpful, but since it recirculates, is not a deal breaker and does not impact performance. Pretty quiet too. Side tank is a MUST.

One week of ice bliss. We have the same faulty ice maker in our brand new Samsung fridge. Love the fridge, hate the ice maker. It is not covered by manufacturer warranty so after having it replace 3 times, we opted to buy this ice maker and it has been great. I LOVE ice. I use it in every beverage, morning, afternoon, and night. This ice maker is exactly what I needed. I actually prefer it over the fridge ice maker because you don't have to hold the cup there for 30 seconds waiting for either 1 or 20 ice cubes to come out. Here, you pull out the tray and scoop you ice and you are done. To be honest, I don't really care what type of ice (nugget, cube, etc.) but this ice is nice. We use filtered water from our fridge, purchase the opal water filter (sold separately but can be ordered from GE and on a subscription), and followed the sanitizing process. Set up took about an hour and it is great. I had some issues with the app where the device was added but then it would lose connectivity. However, it seems to be working now and I got a schedule set up for it turn on during the AM and turn off in PM. No issues with ice production or anything. Here are a couple of things to know: 1. Initial sanitizing process requires "household bleach" (only 1 tbsp) but make sure you have that ready. 2. The sanitizing instructions are not clear. It says make a solution of 5 cups water to 1 tbsp bleach and the "fill up the reservoir" but the 5 cups doesn't fill up the water reservoir. So I wasn't sure if you were supposed to add the 5 cup solution and then more water to fill up the reservoir. I didn't do this. I just made the 5 cup and 1 tbsp solution and added to water reservoir and ran the clean cycle. 3. Sanitizing is recommended once a week, which requires draining the machine, removing the opal water filter (if you purchased separately and installed it), make the bleach solution, and then run a rinse cycle 3 times. I haven't don't this yet, but I anticipate it will take about 30 minutes. 4. Descaling should occurring every 2-3 weeks based on water hardness. This requires an overnight soaking of the vinegar solution, so you will be out of ice for ~24 hours, so plan accordingly. 5. Purchase bleach, distilled white vinegar, and the opal water filter to be used from the beginning. 6. When I pull out the ice bucket, condensation from the bottom drips down onto the drip tray - so that tray is required, not optional. 7. The drip tray has cut outs to fit around the feet of the machine, but that also means it is not secured in any capacity so it can move around pretty easily. Not a huge deal, but I have to make sure the tray is pushed back against the legs regularly, 8. The tubes to empty the reservoir are pretty short, so unless you install next to you sink, you will need to drag out the machine (and the side tank) and rotate it 90 degrees to have the tubes accessible to drip into a big bowl/bucket, which can take a minute. Not ideal, but it is what it is. 9. The instruction manual is very detailed in certain but also missing in other areas. For example, it doesn't actually tell you the best way to drain the entire unit for the weekly sanitizing cleaning. I assume I need to remove the side tank, drain that, and drain the entire base reservoir, but it is not stated that way in the manual. Overall, great device, but there are a couple tweaks that could be made to improve the ease of use.

Alright stop. Collaborate and listen. This ice maker WORKS. We've been impressed with the amount of ice that it makes. I'm giving it four stars because we spent extra for the side tank, and it has never actually been used by the machine for whatever reason. It's also four stars because it is crazy expensive and didn't come with a magical unicorn to add water to it. (I still have to do that.) Our front window is also always full of condensation and some water and it NEVER DRIES OUT, which is weird, but it doesn't affect anything. GE- I puffy heart love you but DANG, bring down this price point for the good of the world. (I bought it with gift cards, store credit, and pixie dust.)

Y’all…. This thing is AMAZING!! The best little nugget ice ever! Perfect for ice lovers! It’s a little pricey BUT a great investment! It works perfectly, easy to set up and clean, has a water reservoir, not to large, has a bright and dim light option, and fits perfectly on a kitchen counter! Great fir iced coffee’s as well!! Id give it a billion stars if I could!

My husband bought this for me for Christmas because the ice maker in our refrigerator keeps freezing up. This is the neatest gift he has ever given me. I was upset at the amount he paid but after using it non stop for 4 months, I would buy another one in a heartbeat. This is not the most beloved appliance in my kitchen (even used more than my air fryer which used to be my most beloved appliance in my house). If you are debating on buying this...don’t. We had guests stay at our house after Easter and they said they are buying one as soon as they get home.

The best fast food beverages in the industry but couldn’t get them on Sunday. Until now. My new favorite Appliance. I mean who doesn’t love nugget ice. It’s perfect size for our counters. My in laws come over just to use our ice. At night time and all the lights are off the blue glow of the machine is mesmerizing. But don’t worry you can turn the light off. Couple Tips with this machine Do NOT use spring water. The minerals in spring water will make it run rough. Distilled water is recommended because it’s free from minerals and taste better. Tip 2. The unit comes with a screen in the reservoir but it is not a filter. You have to purchase filter separately and it’s well worth it. Last Tip make sure and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning the unit do it as often as recommended

I love it! It was easy to set up, it’s easy to clean snd makes ice just like it’s supposed to. Some of the reviews say it’s loud, but it’s not. It was expensive, but my wife and I have looked at them for a while and I finally pulled the trigger and I’m glad I did. I’ve never gotten the app to connect, but I have no idea why I’d need to. Again, we really could not be any happier.

Ice making keeps pace with small parties or large families. Love this pellet ice, would swear it makes you hydrate more due to the desire to want to chew on them.!!! Glad they added a side tank for extra water reserve. Price is high, but you know the saying.

Makes sonic ice at home! Works well, doesn't take too long. Good looking, not too big but holds plenty of ice. I give it 4 1/2 starts because it does make a lot of noise. We keep ours in the laundry room, so not a big deal but could be annoying in the kitchen. Would definitely recommend.

Love this machine and the ice! Pros - makes ice quickly, best nugget ice. Definitely get the extra reservoir. I've read reviews where people complain about how noisy it is, but it's an ice maker there is a level of noise that you just get used to similar to white noise. Tips - get the geek squad on it, they don't seem to have the longevity of a commercial quality machine. Ours started leaking after the first year. Still makes ice like a champ. Run your monthly cleaning cycle, keeps your machine clean and ice tasting better. I've had other nugget ice makers, home machines aren't as stout as the commercial counter parts, but of the options out there this one is the crown Jewel!

This could be amazing if it had a water line connection, instead of having to refill this on a daily basis. The price seems to be pretty high considering it makes ice and it is a bit noisy. The ice is great and the the family seem to enjoy it.

GE Opal ice! if your an ice lover this is the ice machine to get! ive been really happy with this overall. My family is constantly using this for ice! My wife likes to eat ice and this makes it quite soft and easy to chew. We have been incredibly happy with this! We purchased it open box it came looking brand new. It had been reboxed, but overall it works perfectly! I highly recommend this ice maker i would absolutely buy another one if this one ever broke. It makes the ice quickly and it is pretty easy to clean you will need to either make your own cleaning solution with vinegar or you can buy the cleaning solution that GE offers.

I love this ice machine. It makes the best nugget ice. It can be a bit of a pain to maintain and keep clean but in my opinion it’s worth it. Plus you can schedule time for it to come on which is a nice feature.

I love the ice. It is constantly being used at my household. However, as it makes the ice, it is a bit squeeky. The machine would be a problem if located in a place where I needed quiet. However, the kitchen is appropriate. In addition, when I moved the machine, a had a small water issue as the connection hose filled with the residual water and spilt all over. I would love to see some built in method to prevent that kind of leaking. I will not make that mistake again. Lastly, when I open the drawer to get ice, there is always some water that leaks onto the countertop. I do have the plastic guard, but the water leakage is a little frustrating. Not something to be fixated on as it seems to be a design factor. But my kids are constantly making a mess with the excess water and that has it's own challenges. In all, the ice is very satisfying and well worth the small concerns.

I’ve had a few different brands of countertop ice makers through the years, but I must say the GE Profile Opel 2.0 ice maker is hands down my favorite. The “Sonic” ice it makes is an absolute winner with my family. I purchased the side tank to go along with ice maker which was a smart move for me. Fill the side tank and depending on your ice consumption, I can usually get 2 days without worrying to refill it. I’m 5 stars for this ice maker and absolutely recommend it.

Bought this as a Christmas gift for my wife who loves nugget ice. The ice itself is great and I find myself using it all the time. With that said it’s still a $500 ice maker and “nice to have” at best. The unit can be slightly loud while making ice, and will be heard at least 1 room away. It’s not annoying to us, and after a week or two just became background noise. One way around the noise is to use the mobile app which lets you set a schedule. I did have some frustration here at first where the schedule wasn’t being followed. Later I found out you have to separately go set your time zone in the app (outside of the settings for the ice maker itself). As a software developer I can’t say this is great mobile design. We have our schedule set up for it to run at night so it’s full when we wake up. A full bin will last my wife and myself 1.5 - 2 days (we use a lot). Overall I’m happy with the purchase.

I use the heck out of this ice maker. I've had to clean it once due to calcium build up, but it wasn't a big hassell. I don't use the ice maker in the fridge anymore. I'm an ice eating fool. My dentist told me to eat only soft ice from an ice maker like this one. It makes some crazy noises like a cat, sometimes a whale. But I would still highly reccomend it.

Broke before one year, replacement broke after 4 months. Ice was amazing and easy. Cleaning took some time but was fine. Loved having this ice maker, hated not having it when it stopped working to soon… not worth the price… there are others out there for less, I thought spending this would mean better quality.
