If you want tasty nugget / pearl ice at an affordable price, this is the machine for you. Don't accidently get the Opal 1, it is Opal 2 or nothing. I could make some minor design improvements, but overall it is the best machine at the best price for my budding family's needs. Why don't they put these types of machines in fridges already? YOLO

I’d say you should expect it to last about 2 years. The machine often has problems restarting after it’s been cleaned. I recommended it with these caveats. Pro tip: use only distilled water to keep scale from building which might extend its life.

Decent Ice Maker

The ice is great for beverages and making smoothies. I really helps me increase my water intake. When recipes call for cooling down blanched vegetables or eggs, I now have a full supply of ice in order to do the task.

I purchased this for the chewy ice that you get at some restaurants and it does not disappoint in both quality and volume. Great capacity for it's size and looks very nice to boot!

I purchased the GE Opal. First off, it looks good doesnt look like a disposable appliance. The cleaning and descaling routines assure longevity for hard water households. Ice production is as indicated. It looks and operates like a upscale appliance

Worth Every Dollar

Even if you don’t love sonic ice this ice is awesome and I really don’t like any other ice cubes anymore.

Just be aware that the supply hose from the reservoir to the actual ice maker needs some space. The product delivers exactly what it promises. The only deduction is for the noise. While not “loud” it’s noticeable. If they can solve that, this will be a five star

It makes ice pretty fast and when it melts it cycles it back through for more ice, which is like Sonic ice only without the highschool kid attitude. We bought a filter for it that is supposed to last 6 months, didn't make it 45 days so maybe don't get that.

Great ice

It isn’t as loud as people were saying. It sounds the same as the oven running and is quieter than the dishwasher. Started making ice in 20 min and bin was full in like as hour. The price was high so I’m hoping it lasts!
