Great, but dribbles
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Makes fantastic ice, and having the additional reservoir made it VERY easy to refill while maintaining operation. Only drawback, which is why four stars and not five, is that whenever you open the drawer it dribbles water all over the front and on the counter. Very frustrating. I returned the ice maker for credit.

Pricey but worth it as long as you take care of it
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is the best! Though you better follow directions or suffer the consequences. Distilled water only, no minerals, clean the machine ever week or two as directed. So far this machine is super quiet. The only noise I ever hear from it is the ice falling into the tray. The ice quality is perfect. Other machines try to mimic the ice from sonic for cheaper and fail...this is exactly like sonic/hospital ice. Perfect texture and crunchiness. Now I get it, its expensive, but I honestly cant imagine not having it now.. like how did we live this long without our own personal sonic ice machine?! If you can splurge for it, buy it. You wont regret it. Id also say go ahead and get the extended warranty from bestbuy.. worth it on something this expensive.

Great ice, but a bit loud
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Makes ice fairly quick. The water side tank is more of a necessity than I expected. Glad I opted for the model with the side tank. The ice nuggets are great and improve many drinks. The unit is fairly loud when making ice. I currently have it on my kitchen counter, but plan to place it in a nearby room within a vented cabinet. The noise is too disruptive to have this unit running in a high traffic and/or small space. Running this unit on a schedule allows you to manage the noise. A small annoyance is the unit drips water from the ice bin, when opening the bin. A drip tray is included, but is not aesthetically pleasing.

Love it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We love it! Keeps ice full. Small “sonic” ice. Easy to care for. It is a little noisy and large - if you’re short on space.

Should have bought one sooner!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So, to start out, I'd just like say I've kicked this purchase around for years and finally did it. I don't regret it. This machine is pretty awesome. Yeah, its expensive, but once you start munching on the ice, and adding it to all your drinks, your buyers remorse will be no more. My daily water intake increased significantly, and that's good, right? ; ) I delayed my purchase for so long because of the complaints of noise, reliability, price and size. So, I did what I normally don't do and bought the extended warranty from BB. Hopefully I won't need it. So, to the noise... It's a refrigeration device, so yeah... you hear it running. I wouldn't call it noisy by any means, at least mine isn't. I have an air filter running in my den and its way louder than the Opal. Also, it makes ice so fast it will fill up the bin, and if you need to cut it off for a while, cut it off. Noise worried me in the reviews, but to me its a non-issue. The size, yeah, its large. But I have it sitting next to my fridge on the counter. I might move it later, or I might just leave it there. After a couple days I'm already used to it. One small issue with the water reservoir that's attached, you need to "burp" it often. At least I do. In order to get it flowing correctly to the Opal, you need to lift up, and the set it back down several times before it gets the water flowing through the tube really good. Not a real issue, just a little annoying. I'd say, if you're like me, and you've been thinking about it for a while, and you really like "the good ice" and it won't break your bank, get it. I absolutely love it. I am not disappointed at all. Make the decision you know you're going to make anyway eventually.......you won't regret it!!!

Good so far, but hesitant
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far so good. We had the older model and it died less than a year. But we ran it 24/7. Taking a different approach this time. Using the app and running a scheduler to make ice twice a day, using distilled water only, using the optional filter you can purchase. Hopefully we get more life out of this one. It makes great ice!

Garbage... and so is the Best Buy warranty!
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We had the previous version of this. LOVE the ice when it works! After about a year, it stopped making ice, and only made loud noise. We bought the newer version, and this time we purchased the Best Buy warranty, which stated that it was "hassle free, in-home service". Well, fast forward about 7 months, and the ice maker is making ear-piercing noise, and dumping water all over our kitchen. I was so grateful that I purchased the extended warranty. But then, I logged in and found that I needed to make an appointment and take this thing apart and haul it to Best Buy? So much for a hassle-free in-home service! So I drive 30 minutes to the closest Best Buy and drop this thing off, then what? Wait until it gets shipped off for a repair? I thought they were sending a tech out and it would be swapped for a new one. What a scam. I think I paid an extra $100 or so for total coverage, and looks like I'm the one doing the leg work, and will likely get stuck with a patched unit, or a used replacement. I only bought this model because I thought I could just swap it out. Knowing that these units are notorious for breaking down, I would have just passed. What a waste of money.

Works great!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent ice maker! I've been looking for a "good ice" maker that would fit in my kitchen and keep the ice ready. This machine makes really great ice. It makes some noise when it's actually making ice. Sounds like the humming of a refrigerator or dishwasher. Not bad... and only when it's making more ice after you get some out for your drinks. I would definitely recommend this machine. Actually, just did recommend it yesterday!!

Best ice maker I have tried
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this ice maker. My freezer's ice maker broke to where warranty couldn't fix it and I received a store gift card for where I purchased the fridge/freezer. Instead of fixing the original one, I purchased a counter top ice maker. Since then, every year I seem to need to replace the counter top ice maker. Because of that I was looking for something that would last a little longer. I was hesitant to purchase this one considering the price and my experience in having to replace so often. I have had this one for several months and have had no issues. The only thing I don't like is the side tank... It doesn't balance in my sink under the RO dispenser so I have to hold it there the entire time it fills. I also work from home so I am constantly getting ice water throughout the day all week long rather than just at dinner time. The ice is small, which is my preference, but it doesn't produce enough to supply drinks for a party... For every day use it is great though.

||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought it over a year ago. The wife loves me more now than before we had this. This makes the famous sonic ice as they call it. Easy to fill and easy to clean.

Makes great ice, noisy on defrost cycle
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Makes great nugget ice pretty fast. It is expensive and heavy to move around. We use it at the house then move to the camper when we travel. The only issue with it that I do not like is the loud screeching noise when it's in defrost mode. It is super annoying. For the amount of money this thing costs, I feel as if that noise shouldn't be so annoying.

Excellent ice maker
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this for my wife as she LOVES ice. Makes ice in small chunks, once it gets going it goes pretty quickly. Initial setup is a little time consuming and cleaning process isn't the fastest. This is by far superior to the other ice machine we own. It's night and day. Personally we only use filtered water, the ice is great tasting. If you can afford this machine and love ice its a no brainer for me.

Good
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is great for the most part. As far as making ice, this is wonderful. It makes more noise than I thought but it is not overly annoying. Our first one had an internal failure within the first 6 weeks, BB covered it and gave us a new one about 2 months ago and it has worked great so far. Get the protection plan for this!
