I have BEEN looking for an icemaker that makes the good crushed ice and this is it. It makes ice quickly too. Highly recommend. It is expensive, but worth every penny.

If you want chewy ice this machine is where it’s at. Just wish it would keep it cold enough to not melt once the bin is full

This thing is the legit ice maker. It is exactly what you are looking for if you want nugget ice. It makes enough to keep up to about 4 drinks cold and refreshed with ice.

Love it but it’s kinda noisy. I also don’t like how it melts down the ice so fast in the machine.

If I could give this zero stars I would. After reading mixed reviews for this item I pulled the trigger and purchased one of these units. Thank goodness for BestBuys 45 day return policy. The unit was a complete disappointment from day one. It is advertised that it will produce 1 pound/hour. This is a lie. It took about 24 hours to fill the 3 lb ice bin. The unit ran constantly and never would produce more than about 3 lbs every 24 hours. I figured the unit must be defective due to the lack of ice production and constantly going from “Making Ice” mode to “Defrost” mode. After about a week of listening to this thing constantly running and making a disappointing amount of ice I returned to the store and exchanged it. I do have to say thanks to the local BestBuy staff helping me exchange units. Once home I set up the new unit being sure to carefully follow the provided instructions. I went to bed that night with high expectations to wake up and find the 3 lb ice bin full of ice. Nope. Not even close. Just like the first unit I had the bin was less than 1/2 full after running over 10 hours. There was just enough ice to fill my mug before heading to work. Later that day I came home to find the ice maker less that half full again. Just enough to fill a single mug with ice for dinner. This half full, fill a mug, wait 12 hours to fill again then empty repeated for a month. I called GE told them the situation and that I was even using bottled water in the unit. They said making 1 lb of ice per hour is optimal for the unit and that it sounded like the unit was indeed working correctly. I finally got around to returning the second unit to the store a few days before the 45 day closing window ended. Again thanks to BestBuy for taking this piece of junk ice maker off of my hands. When I received the power bill for the full month that I had the GE Opal ice maker plugged in and running and it was a full 12 dollars higher than the previous and following months. After this experience I have to say it will be a cold day in …… before I purchase an appliance from GE. With a price of nearly 700$ I expected far far more than I got not once but TWICE.

Best ice machine on the market. It is expensive, but it is worth it. Best gift received.

One of the best small appliance purchases i have ever made. Didnt realize how much i would use this.

As a younger tech-savvy guy, I thought this high-end ice maker would be a great addition. Instead, I got a glorified paperweight with LEDs. Let’s start with the Wi-Fi setup it’s absolutely useless. I tried every trick in the book: resetting the machine, switching Wi-Fi bands, updating firmware, uninstalling/reinstalling the SmartHQ app. Still nothing. GE’s app is buggy garbage, and support just sends you generic copy paste replies. The design is flawed too. The lid is finicky, the sensors act up constantly, and the side tank is awkward to fill and doesn’t sit right. The noise level is higher than expected, and don’t even think about using it in a quiet kitchen or small apartmentit hums and clicks like it’s fighting demons inside. Reliability? Within the first week it started having random shutdowns. No error messages, no warningjust shuts off. Then the machine began acting like it’s full when it’s clearly not. Restarting it became a daily ritual. Not what I signed up for with a $600+ appliance. Bottom line: Don’t let the sleek look fool you. GE slapped a nice finish on a product that barely functions. The “smart” features are broken, the machine is temperamental, and for this price, I expected excellencenot endless headaches. I’m returning this overpriced boat anchor and advising everyone to look elsewhere. GE really fumbled hard with this one.

Love the ease of having crushed ice at home. This machine makes ice fairly quickly just wished it had a larger storage capacity when we have company over.

Original thought was it was a bit over priced, but it is worth every penny. Hands down the best countertop ice maker I have used.
