Heres hoping this one lasts.

Not worth it

After numerous calls to the manufacturer & no end in site decided the $600 ice maker was probably going to be a problem I wanted to wash my hands of. I attempted to return it to Best Buy & I had no idea Best Buy had a 15 day policy I never would have purchased it with them had I joked it had a ridiculous policy. They told me to spend an additional $60 for the protection plan on it to bring it in & exchange it for another. Meanwhile in the 20 days I had made the purchase it’s an additional $150 cheaper from the day I bought it. Poor experience all around. The product worked fine for 2 weeks.

It’s the good ice! Design - The Carbon Black finish adds a touch of elegance to any kitchen space, while the compact size ensures it doesn’t take up too much counter space. Side Tank - The increased water capacity provided by the side tank reduces the frequency of refills. Ease of Use - Simple controls and Wi-Fi connectivity (via the SmartHQ App) for remote monitoring make operation straightforward and user-friendly. Speed - Efficient ice production ensures you have a steady supply of nugget ice on hand whenever needed. New for this model - They’ve included a removable/cleanable rear fan screen filter for this model, which makes cleaning relatively easy for one area that always gets extremely dirty/dusty over time. Also included is a hard water filter and a new sanitize mode to help with cleaning. There’s also a new metal spoon and a magnet holder, which again is a nice touch. the bad: Noise - Like many ice makers, the Opal 2.0 can be somewhat noisy during operation, which may be a consideration for quieter environments. Price - The initial investment for the Opal 2.0 is higher compared to traditional ice makers, though its unique features justify the cost for nugget ice enthusiasts. Maintenance - Regular cleaning and maintenance are necessary to ensure optimal performance and longevity, which may require some effort. overall: It remains to be seen whether the new additions (water filter, removable screen air filter, and sanitize mode) offer any improvement long term. I’ve used this particular series of ice maker for some time now, and the only thing I normally have issues with is build up (either dust on the outside or hard water on the inside) over time. If that’s been improved I would bump this to 5 stars, but for now it’ll stay at 4 stars for me. Still, it’s a great machine for making the “good” ice if you don’t mind the price tag.
