They make terrible noises, the second one not as quick. But is doing the same as the first one we replaced. Friends who have purchased have had the same issue. Hopefully the next one will work better?

Bringing New Meaning to "Squeal Like a Pig"

We use distilled water and descale it weekly nonetheless and still get the squealing. Let me tell you, it is LOUD. In a 5000 sq ft house, you can hear the squealing everywhere. Quite distinctly. For people who work remotely like we do, it is a problem when you are on a call and the icemaker starts squealing. When it is not shrieking, it is wonderful. Really too bad.

Posted .We're glad to hear you're happy with the Opal other than this issue you're having with sound; we'd like to look into this further. We have information about what sounds you may hear from your Opal in an article on our GE Appliances website titled "Opal Ice Maker - Normal Sounds"; you can view that when you look up the title on our website and click the 'Support' tab. We recommend disconnecting the Opal from power for three to four hours before reconnecting, to reset it; this can often solve an issue. If you continue to have this issue and think the sound isn't normal, please send us a private message via Facebook, Instagram, or X with your contact information, the complete model/serial numbers, a video of the sound you're hearing and a copy of this review. We'll look into your situation as soon as possible.
