A good MacBook that doesn't deserve the "Pro" name

The MacBook Pro has always been Apple's flagship laptop for professionals, designers, and those who need that extra bump in power and features that the mainline laptops don't provide. Unfortunately, this first M1 generation of the MacBook Pro (MBP) doesn't deliver that premium feel or wow factor of previous generations. The performance of the Apple Silicon M1 series cannot be understated. It's fast, efficient, and maintains cool-enough thermals to make everyday tasks seem effortless. Basic daily operations of web browsing, video-watching, email-checking, and multitasking (mostly) is a breeze, and the 17-20 hours of battery life is no joke. These tasks never really experience too much slowdown. Even some basic video editing or smaller project files are no problem for Apple's M1 8 core CPU (4 performance and 4 efficiency) and 8 core GPU...however the 8GB RAM configuration will soon become a noticeable issue, especially for anyone working with multiple browser tabs/plugins or working with larger projects. Side note - Apple, time to catch up and make 16GB RAM standard. The biggest problem with this series of the MBP is that its cheaper counterpart, the MacBook Air, comes with the exact same chipset configuration. Not only that, but it also comes with the same RAM, same hard drive, same Touch-ID button, and same available port configurations as well. Gone are the days (for this generation) of having those extra ports for productivity, an available HDMI port for video output, or the SD card slots for creatives on the go. Here, you simply get two Thunderbolt3/USB 4 ports (only one if you are charging the laptop) and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The MBP does have internal fans however, so working for longer periods or in hotter environments where thermal throttling may be an issue is something to consider over the fan-less MacBook Air design. The Retina display is back with 13.3" of real estate at 2560x1600 resolution and 500 nits. Also returning is the lackluster 720p front-facing camera, displaying a disappointing feed compared to the more modern 1080p camera that most newer competitors come with. Also returning is the customizable Touch Bar (gone in the 14" and 16" M1 Pro models going forward); a neat & gimmicky touch-sensitive thin OLED display whose button configuration changes depending on the program you have open. In the right hands and with the right adjustments, it can be an amazing tool to hop around to different applications and settings. To others, it's a feature that can get old quickly and leave people longing for the traditional function keys. Speaking of keys, those terrible butterfly keyboards are gone for a more traditional and satisfying switch-style design. At the end of the day, the daily workload that most people use their computers for can be done for cheaper and with less physical weight that the MacBook Air provides in the 2020 M1 setup. Unless you're a big fan of the Touch Bar, might need the fans for rare thermal throttling during those long 4K video exports, or just get it at a really good deal, look at the 2020 MacBook Air instead...or move up to the 2021 MacBook Pro M1-Pro series for a true "Pro" experience.

MacBook arrived quickly in a well-protected box. Sadly, didn't have the original Apple box, but that's just minor disappointment. The screen was perfect, and the body had zero scratches or even smudges. The power adapter looked brand new and an extra-long USB-C power cable. I didn't measure it, but it seems to be a 2m cable. The battery lasts about a couple days with basic everyday use and charges quickly. The battery maximum capacity is 92%. I took off one star, because the posting lists this as the "Latest Model" which i took to mean a refurbished MacBook from the latest release. This laptop is a 2020 version. So, it's not too old, but not as new as I was expecting. Hoping they can be a little more upfront about what model/year MacBooks they sell in the future.

Refurbished Treasure: 2020 GSRF MacBook Pro

I recently took the plunge and bought a refurbished MacBook Pro from BestBuy, and let me tell you, it's been a great experience! I was initially hesitant, but the value proposition was too good to ignore. Now, after almost 2 weeks of using it, I can confidently say it's been an amazing experience. Performance: This 2020 M1 powered MacBook Pro is a true powerhouse. I’m not a new Mac user and hence knew everything that I would expect from a MacBook. The M1 chip is incredibly fast, and the 8GB RAM keeps everything running smoothly. The Retina display is absolutely gorgeous, with stunning clarity and vivid colors. Battery Life: The battery life on this refurbished MacBook Pro is far better than I anticipated. I easily get a full day's work done on a single charge, This is a huge upgrade from my previous laptop, which constantly needed to be plugged in. Value: Going refurbished was a fantastic decision. I saved a significant amount of money compared to buying a brand new model, and the performance is practically indistinguishable. The fact that it came with a Geek-Squad warranty gave me extra peace of mind. Overall Satisfaction: Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with my refurbished MacBook Pro. It's a fantastic machine that delivers exceptional performance, amazing battery life, and all at a fraction of the cost of a new one. Oh…did I forget to mention the condition in which I received it? You can’t tell the difference from a brand new once it’s out of the box. There was no scratch or any other deficineny that I could point fingers at. If you're on the fence about going refurbished, I highly recommend it! Personal Advice (not a disclaimer): I've purchased Geek-Squad refurbished products from Best Buy in past too and they have not let me down so far in my decisions. Just do your own research before you buy as each product is created different and every used product may not be truly Geek Squad Certified Refurbished (GSRF). So look out carefully the product notes clearly mentioning the GSRF label before you move forward. Happy hunting!

This Macbook is a game changer for me. It works better than anticipated. The processor and tge RAM are absolutely a plus for me. I was able to switch over ma data seamlessly. This is a great laptop for school, personal use, and even DJ. The touch bar makes it better for keywords search. Overall, this laptop does exactly the same thing as it was a brand new home. I'm extremely impressed and satisfied. I highly recommend this one.

I bought this for my daughter going off to college. She loves it and even though it’s refurbished it’ looks new. It doesn’t ship in the original packaging and the charging cable wasn’t original but the cable works fine and it’s long. I’m really happy to have found this option, a new one would have been at least double the price.

Absolutely Amazing, M1 Chip is a game changer

I upgraded from a 2017 MacBook Air, and the contrast with the M1 chip and the intel chip is night and day. I have a friend who works at Best Buy and he recommended me to chip out a little extra money for the Pro series, and it was definitely worth it. As a music producer, Audio Engineer, and someone who is constantly working on multiple Video and Photo editing projects, having a computer that can multitask between applications is crucial. I’ve been able to run backing tracks and effect software for a multi thousand person venue without any issues, I’ve been able to tackle video projects that would’ve taken days to complete in a matter of hours, and as someone who is going into college in a few months, having a computer that will stay resilient and stable in 4-8 years is vital. I recommend this to anyone who is either constantly on the move tackling projects, someone who needs a computer to last on long stretches without charging, or someone who needs a “budget friendly” powerhouse of a laptop.

I bought a refurbished Mac pro m1 for half of the price and the laptop is working absolutely perfect. I have it now for 3 months and everything is fine. I was very spectacle at the beginning but I saw some good reviews and I went for it. There are some scratches and the battery age is 94% but otherwise all good

Quality is like brand new and perfect investment if you’re in a budget but don’t want to spend full price for the “latest model” no lags or hiccups since purchase (I’ve had it since December)

This was a great purchase considering the price I paid. Yes, there were some dents on the bottom corners, but they were not visible when sitting on a desk. I needed this as my son started college and the options that the "Pro" version provides is nice considering the price paid. Everything works flawlessly. I own a Mac Mini, and an iMac, so I knew what to expect and what to look for.

Great laptop. My professors told me I would need the newest, fastest, and best MacBook model - but this laptop has done everything I need and more. For 1/4th of the price! I would 100% purchase again. Best Buy’s shipping is quick (seriously, you can’t beat two day delivery) and they package it perfectly for the trip.

OK, So this Mac is the same one that was issued to me at work, and it was a huge hurdle to get used to using a Mac, then the m1 chip presented all the issues with compatibility. Oh man, it took me three docks before I found one that let me use my multiple monitor setup. But it runs amazingly, and it never locks up, and I run so much crap all at once. Also, I was worried about buying a used MacBook, but its been the best money spent.

So far this M1 MacBook Pro has been able to handle everything I’ve needed it for. For being almost 5 years old it has been surprisingly quick at pulling up applications. I know with 8GB of ram it will likely not run multiple large programs at once so multitasking may be limited. Otherwise, the base M1 processor is quite sufficient for daily tasks.
