Excellent game, one of the best video games I never played. 100% recommendable.

I enjoy this game a lot, the picture quality is excellent even for PS4. I played it on PS5 and PS4, the graphics are almost the same, ps5 has a slight edge. Great story and gameplay.

I originally wasn't sure about the new theme and third person view for God of War but after a very short period of playing you learn this is the best game yet. So fun, so brutal, and a story that will captivate you and make you want more! The characters and environment suck you in and make you never want to leave. I would recommend this game to anyone, and if you don't own a PS4 you either need to buy one or find one to borrow just for this game.

This is my first GOW game. After reading reviews I was confident I did not need to have previously played the series to jump right in. I'm so glad I went with my gut. I'm coming off of Far Cry 5, which I absolutely loved. This game was a solid encore. While it isn't as open world as I like in my games, it is a magnificent and beautifully designed game, in play and appearance. I was hooked from the start and grew to admire and "care for" the plight of the characters. Excellent game.

The gameplay has changed from the previous games in this iteration of the series as well as the over the shoulder perspective in this one. I found it to be a nice change in revitalizing the series. You mostly have your axe but learn different skills and combos as you progress.
Story is engrossing and catches you off guard much of the time. Kratos is a bit more relatable in this. and the Norse mythology works perfectly for this series.

GoW is incredible. The game is a mix of Tomb Raider meets slasher, with a compelling story. The graphics are incredible. The main campaign only takes about 25 or so hours, but there are 30+ hours of extra content that is worth playing. Not that silly, collect every feather stuff or meaningless side quest, but an entire universe that isn't required to be visited in the main story that is waiting to be explored post credits. This game is an absolute blast!

I've played every God of War game since the PS2 era and was presently surprised by the change in gameplay style that made Kratos more grounded and real. No more random jumping, random sexual encounters in the middle of battle, nothing silly like that. This is a Kratos that has matured, has loved and lost but still has a lot to learn about himself and his relationship with his son and others. Incredibly story with a mind numbing twist at the end, and a MUST PLAY.

About as good production value as any game made this generation. Great characters and story telling coupled with consistently satisfying gameplay (it's a heck-of-a-lot of fun!).
The only con I can think of is that killing an enemy in the first hour feels pretty much the same as killing enemies 20+ hours into the game. Still a lot of fun, but combat does lack variety, although you will learn new attacks and skills. Both the mob combat and boss battles can get a bit repetitive.

One of the best video games I've ever played, if not the best. It has an engaging combat, it's fast, it's challenging but never to the point of it being unfair, it took a different approach from the overly repetitive combat of the previous games.
The story is innovative, heartbreaking, it's original it's something I've never seen before, it gives Kratos very genuine growth that fits his character very well.

I was very concerned about the new GOW when I first laid my eyes on gameplay. It looked like another Uncharted walking simulator with Dark Soulsesque combat. I was very happy to be surprised, and for the most part, this game delivered on all the promises the developers made concerning story, characters, and combat. While I miss some of the gameplay and elements of older titles, I am ultimately happy with this new direction and looking forward to the sequel.

Granted, I’ve always loved God of War and single player story driven games in general. This game is on a whole other level though. The story and voice acting are superb and the game sets itself up well for future installments while still offering a fulfilling conclusion. Combat feels slower and maybe even clunky to start but about halfway through the game that changes when an old friend returns to the arsenal. I really and truly have no complaints with this game.

I was skeptical about this game given that I'd grown numb to the traditional hack and slash genre that its predecessors very much fell into, even if well executed. But this game flips the entire series on its head. Satisfying but never repetitive combat, a surprisingly deep and personal story as well as beautiful environments as well as character design leads to a game that redefines what a third person melee "hack and slash" game can be.

Seriously, One of the best games to come across all gens. The level of the story, acting, and visuals is really unsurpassed at this point. I wasn't a big fan of the previous games, so I wasn't expecting too much, but it blew my expectations and every major reviewer out of the water with 9-10 across the board. If you own a PS4 and don't own this, you're missing out big time. If you don't have a PS4, this is best reason to get one. It is literally a "System Seller".

I can go on and on about this game. The change in playtime to a more 3rd person centric hack and slash really resonated well with me. The combat felt far better than I expected, the games locations where beautifully rendered, the story was wonderful and it was nice to see Kratos get character development for once. A few minor complaints but the game has done the God Of War name justice!

I'm not very good at determining what my favourite game of all time is..
I've played so many over a few decades but God of War will be added to the list of games I consider for my favourites.
Visually it's amazing looking, and I played it on a ps4 pro on a 4k TV in quality mode(game setting)
The setting is great, I love mythology and I can't wait to see more of this world.
The story is interesting with some twists and turns yet it manages to also keep itself rather focused. The characters are likable and show growth, there's some good chemistry between them and their voice actors.
Gameplay wise it tics a lot of boxes for me.
The combat is slower and methodical which is something I like. It's not quite dark souls like but I can see some similarities. There's ample variety as well, you're always discovering new abilities(runic attacks) until the very end(and beyond!)
The other aspect of gameplay is the general exploring with some light puzzles that personally are just hard enough to be interesting, without leaving you stumped for any significant amount of time. I'm not a huge puzzle guy so if you're looking for that you may be disappointed (try The Witness)
There's "Metroidvania" elements in the game as well. Meaning you'll unlock abilities later in the game that allow you to backtrack and unlock things you came across but couldn't get by.
If you follow the critical path you'll probably get 15-20 hours depending on your skill and the difficulty setting. You will probably double that if you do most or all the side stuff which was very worth doing in my opinion.
I feel like with the 4 difficulty settings almost anyone can enjoy this game. Will it be an all time great for you? Who knows but even if it's not it's still worth playing.

I was leery about this game since God of War 3 was so short (but still awesome) so I rented it from Redbox. I stayed up all night playing it and felt like I just scratched the surface so I went ahead and bought it. It’s a good bit longer and full of exploration and kind of an open world. Having Kratos’s son along allows for a lot more character development than previous iterations and makes for a better story than the previous betrayal and revenge storylines.

This is an amazing rebooting of a character and game that began to lose its luster and was close to falling in the category of obscurity. With this game, the fact that it brought new gameplay and a new world but also carried story elements from the previous game creates an amazing blend for new fans and veteran fans of the franchise. A must have for any fan interested in engaging single player games.

The classic game that was a hack and slash action adventure has been updated to a smart gamer's RPG. I didn't think i was going to like this version but I've had a chance to play and i really like the update. The addition of the secondary character is a good fit. The story is well done and the graphics are beyond the typical set. Cut scenes are seamless into game play. I would highly recommend this game for new players and players that know the older versions.

This is a dark, mature action adventure game that will last around ~20-30 hour game (with no filler content) depending on how much you explore, and difficulty level you selected with emphasis on quality over quantity.
The game has a very nice pacing/progression system that feels very natural. The game does not hand hold you, or set you to your own devices; rather gives you enough information to figure things out on your own
