Really great game mechanics...great story...beautiful setting...great action and always nice to switch up from 1st person shooters

When it comes to the story, character development, action, never wanting to drop the controller, this game is without a doubt a shining example of that!!

A rebellious son, a father recovering from anger issues, and Norse gods that send you into disbelief after learning that they are not quite as the Marvel series depicts them as: God of war is undoubtedly the best game of 2018 so far. Diverging from the original formula of slash-slash-kill, this game has a narrative depth other games can only hope to get close to. The relationship between Kratos and Atreus is one that unfolds beautifully throughout the story as Kratos learns to be a good father all whilst dealing with a rebellious son. Play this game now.

Great game. Awesome graphics. Loads of action. Different then previous God of War games. Not only an action game but it’s also an adventure game.

As a Dark Souls fan who never played any of the prior God of War games, I was intrigued to read that this latest game changed the combat system to become more Dark Souls-like. Although I can't agree with that comparison (this still feels more like wild button-mashing than disciplined tactics), God of War is a lot of fun. It is gorgeous to look at, with TONS of things to do, and a compelling story line. The crafting and skill trees remind me more of Middle Earth: Shadow of War. There is no stamina bar like in Dark Souls, so you can hack n slash without restraint.

The developers decided to change up the original God of War formula from a story of revenge and remorseless killing, to one with story and dialogue. The pacing can be much slower at times compared to other games, but during those slower times there is a lot of story building for many of the characters. Considering most people have probably already played this, I feel I don't need to review it. Although if you are one of the people that may live under a rock, I cannot recommend this game enough.

So I've never really liked the God of War series. Previous entries played like combo-based hack and slashes and made you care little about the story because they threw so much mythology at you at once. But here, the game is slower paced, the combat is more strategic and reactive based. And the story slowly expands the Norse Mythology it takes place by putting you in the shoes of an outsider who has no knowledge of this world. It works well. Also the combat is so satisfying.

If you own a PS4, you owe it to yourself to buy, beg, or borrow a copy of God of War. I don't care if someone spoiled it for you, play it anyway. Don't be ashamed to play on Easy, just play. Combat is amazing (although feels slow when you're starting the game - that'll pass), and the story is one of the best I've seen in a game. The ONLY thing I can find to complain about is that the number of kill animations for each enemy feels limited (I believe there are only two for each enemy type). Why are you still reading? I previously had God of War III in my top 15 of all time game and I loved the perspective, combos, basic mythology, and graphics. This game is better and modernized in every way. Playing on a vanilla OG PS4, this still looks amazing and has gradual difficulty progression. The updates and weapons are very forgiving so you can play how you want without being forced to spam combos. The shield boomerang-mechanic is satisfying every time. 30+ hour campaign was fun the whole time and will be played again. It is not for kids but highly recommended for adults.

After his vengeance against the Olympic pantheon of gods, Kratos finds himself in the land told the Norse. As a long time god of war fan I was worried about the reboot, but not only was I wrong to be worried, it surpassed any expectation I had. The greatest game so far I’m this generation of consoles , it’s a shame it won’t get the credit it deserves for not having multiplayer. And to those who oppose Kratos beware, remember this guy offed his whole step family and his daddy, then went on and killed other gods from different lands. You next

Best game so far this year, having as much fun playing this as I did with HZD last year. Having only played through parts of the past God of War games I may be missing parts of the story but that did not have an affect on this game. I prefer first person games but have not had an issue with GoW third person. Game play and story are great, after finishing the main game there is still a lot to do if you skipped side missions and followed straight through the story. Would have been even better if they had some coop play but that is just a personal preference.

1st game from rebooted Frenchise. The game was really nice and I really liked the game play. Kratos is one of my favorite protagonist in gaming world. This version of Kratos is more matured and level headed than previous ones. Really enjoyed the game.

This God of War takes place a few years after God of War III. For those who haven't played any God of War games but picking up a PlayStation for the first time, you're definitely able to hop in and play without much knowledge of the first 3 games on PS2 and PS3. The gameplay is amazing with solid controlling and detail graphics. The story is capturing to any audience and should be in your gaming library if you're a fan of story, drama and a fun adventure with Kratos.

This game contains a great Ancient Greek Mythological story. The character is fun to play with, the controls are quite responsive. I specially like the 'minigames' when fighting the big enemies and the bosses, its fantastic pushing those buttons in sequence when prompted in the screen. As a reward you get to see the main character (Kratos) execute some vigilant killer moves. The puzzles are mind boggling but solvable. They put more fun in the game as compared to those other hack and slash games out there. I look forward to the God of War sequels.

i usually heavily research a game before i buy, since i don't have the money to buy many games per year. this one was worth evert cent. admittedly unfamiliar with the god of war games before this, the story was captivating, the gameplay was satisfying and presented the perfect mix of challenge and fun, and i was compelled to explore its every nook and cranny. the father/son relationship felt masterfully done and i was genuinely drawn in by each and every supporting character. well worth it!

The God of War games have always been staples in the action/adventure genre, but this new addition goes far beyond its predecessors. Simply put, this is the best video game to be released on the PS4. Graphically, the scope is jaw dropping. Mechanically, the game perfectly blends Dark Souls style patient combat with the gruesome flashy action the series is know for. The heart of this game, however, lies with the story of a troubled father doing his best to raise and protect his son. This is a game that people will be talking about for years.

This was such a great game. The gameplay, the story, the action. I loved everything about this game. Can't wait for the next one.

Positives: Almost everything about this game is top notch. The combat system, the music, the story, the graphics all add up to an amazing game. My favorite part is the combat in this game is which is absolutely amazing to play with and there are certain aspects to the combat that literally are so satisfying. The main story took me about 16 hours to complete and still have yet to do side missions and explore the map. Overall, best game I have played this year. Negatives: Makes the PS4 Pro fan sound like a jet engine sometimes lol

This is a fun romp in the God of War universe and a great direction for the game to go in to reboot the series. I loved the raw and hardcore action of the previous titles in the series but the new direction which is more comparable to other open world games such as Horizon: Zero Dawn, Uncharted (Narrative), and Shadow of The Tomb Raider. This game checks all the right boxes and the combat is still visceral and fun. A great game for anyone seeking God of War in their collection on PS4.
