God of War is a different game than what you are used to seeing. Kratos carries an ax as his primary weapon, and he is now tearing up Norse mythology. He and his son, Atreus, are on a quest, and the fires of his former rage have died down a little. The game is one of the most visually stunning on the PS4, and the PS4 Pro's performance mode makes the game very smooth, even if you don't have a 4K TV. The combat is still smooth and ferocious with finely tuned mechanics, great death animations, and a wide range of creatures to attack. It also feels just a touch more strategic than past games. The world itself is huge with snow covered forests, a giant lake, and multiple areas to explore and many secrets to find. There is some backtracking, but a lot of it has been my choice. This is a PlayStation console exclusive. If I didn't have a PS4, I would buy it for this, and I expect it to be on many top game of the year lists. It's that good. Although it's different than past games, Kratos has grown up (or maybe just old), but he can still kill a god or two if necessary. If you loved God of War, this new one will give you more than enough in content, fun, and wow moments to justify your purchase.

I waited too long to play this game. I had read all of the great reviews but kept putting it off. Could not put this game down once I started. Great story, the graphics are amazing, and the gameplay is some of the best action style I've ever played.

Hack and slash galore no more! Before it was just barreling through enemies and drowning in their blood. Now you get to barrel through enemies, drown in their blood, and enjoy a more cinematic approach to telling Kratos’ story. This game is 11/10!

What a game.... I am an Xbox fanatic but I always but a Playstation for their exclusives and wow this game its amazing. I always liked god of war games and this game put the cherry in the frosting. The visuals are amazing, the game play its awesome, sound it's great, the story its breathtaking. A must play game

So far I have really enjoyed this game. The mechanics are definitely different than the previous iterations of God of War but I actually love the changes. I have played for MANY hours so far and I still have a long way to go. There's a lot to explore and interesting backstories to learn about as you go. Looking forward to the rest.

This was my first time playing God of War and it was great! You don't need to play any of the previous games to understand the story of this one as they do a great way of making the plot easy for you to understand. The chemistry between the 2 main characters are very touching and there are many elements to this hack and slash game.

Bought this game day one and it was amazing. I didn’t think we would see another God of War after the 3rd game, so when this was announced my mind was blown. I love what they did with this game. The environment is huge and the story was incredible. Can’t wait for the next game.

This is one of the best games of the year/generation for PS4. The story is great, the game play incredible, and the amount of detail/quality put into this game make it a top tier choice. A must buy for any PS4 owner's collection. If you like a good story, fun combat and game play, or mythology then you're sure to enjoy God of War.

I have never played a god of war game before. But after reading all the rave reviews I regret not playing other games before it! The graphics are incredible as well as the gameplay which can be challenging while also mainting it’s fun! I really recommend this game to anyone who loves a good third person RPG with incredible graphics and story!

God of War has always been my favorite action adventure video game franchises. I've played them all and loved every single one of them. The hack 'n slash combat was the most fun and satisfying gameplay ever. There were the coolest monsters based on Greek mythology and the story lines were always interesting. This new Good of War is a sort of reboot and this time Kratos' world is based on Norse mythology. The gameplay has been changed a bit but it's a total improvement. You can make improvements and upgrades to weapons and armor etc. The main weapon, Leviathan Axe, is similar to Thor's hammer. In this game Kratos and his son Atreus go on an adventure together and fight together. During combat you can command Atreus to shoot at enemies and it all works out very well. It gets so fun that it's a wonder this style has never been done before. Also, the camera is from one continuous shot with no cuts. No in game load screens. Never been done before. I've said enough. Oh, and the graphics. Absolutely gorgeous! And that's just on my regular PS4! This might be the best game I've ever played and I've been gaming since the early '80s! This game is an absolute must play if you own a PS4!!

God of War is another modern example of how linear level design can thrive in the age of open world games. It's a lot of fun and a surprisingly engaging and emotional story on top of the gameplay that is only enriched by the off the beaten path searchables and lore that hide in all corners of the clever level designs.

God of War is a great. It balances gameplay, story and exploration in an excellent way. I wasn't much a fan of the older God of War games, but this one instantly caught my eye. There's plenty to do for those who are completionists, and mechanics that will keep you coming back for more. It's a must own PS4 game.

Very fun game. You learn kratos on more of a personal level

God of War takes a character that was hard to relate to in Kratos, and takes a fresh approach to the character. A new setting, a new pantheon, and a new dynamic for the series helps breathe life and depth into Kratos. This game is gorgeous, and fun to play. The combat has weight and is satisfying to execute, and the story is intriguing, and worth savoring. The game is meaty, with plenty of open areas and side activities to help broaden the experience, without feeling like filler. While having played the rest of the series has added benefits to understanding the tragic history of the character, this game also works as a fresh start for newcomers, and easily sits with Horizon, and Uncharted 4/The Lost Legacy as a top tier, must have PS4 game.

Having been a fan of the games since the first, and original God of War game, I thought (like everyone else), that the last game, was the last game. But after years of silence, when they announced a new God of War, continuing Kratos' story as an older, wiser, more restrained demi-god (with A LOT of effort lol), in a new mythological land... I couldn't have been more excited! And this game does NOT disappoint. It's all there: the beautiful lands and locales, new gods and monsters, puzzles, and combat. And now we have rpg elements', his young son on the journey with him, and a mysterious story weaved in. It's a big, fun game, as usual and I highly recommend it. Oh, and the case artwork is reversible! The art on the other side is gorgeous! ☺

Hands down this game is in my top three best PS4 games I've ever played. Great gameplay, interesting story that keeps you engaged in a huge detailed and diverse world. One of the few games I'll ever go back and complete the story mode again. Didn't even play every God of War prior and didn't affect how much I enjoyed this game.

I saw the E3 coverage last year and was interested but never played any others. Then when my friends mentioned how good it was I tried it out myself. The story is something else. It grabs you and doesn’t let go until the end. The gameplay is super smooth and the quality of graphics is beyond real. Definitely recommend this to everyone

I enjoyed the game thoroughly and beat it. It kept my attention and had a lot to do but wasn’t too overwhelming. He had a great story plot as well and took skill it wasn’t super easy but wasn’t so difficult you get frustrated and quit. It’s a great game should buy it if peeked you’re interest.

This is the best game i’ve played in 2018. Top 10 of all time. excellent story and gameplay, graphics are top and the game was the perfect length. What you will get. single player story driven 3rd person adventure. Equal amount puzzles and combat. 30 hours of game, more or less depending on play style. complete voice acting.
