This game is an incredible experience. The story is engaging, the world is beautiful, the characters are memorable, and the gameplay is highly satisfying. This is a fairly linear story driven. After the opening, you are given a variety of different linear side activities to choose from throughout the game, or you can just go straight through the main story objectives. The combat feels fluid and weighty and upgrading skills and armor along the way is very rewarding. Personally i found the combat tedious and cheap on higher difficulties, but on the normal difficulty i really felt like a God of War, with some reasonable difficulty peppered in throughout the experience. I look forward to trying higher difficulties again on ng+ when that is added. This game really makes me look forward to the future of God of War and gaming.

I have to say that the story and graphics were amazing, though without any spoilers I felt the ending wasn't as satisfying as I would have liked. This game has rich graphics and the character development is phenomenal and quite moving. It's a great experience. Where I was disappointed the most was the game play. To be fair my controller was a bit busted from years of use and my character drifted forward as I would try to throw, but I found it hard to move/dodge and aim the throwing of the axe which is pretty much the main weapon and is used in most aspects of the game. I couldn't lock on to targets and that made it a challenge, but this game was revered for its exceptional game play. The biggest flaw by far was the insanely small text. I'm near sighted and I probably need a "thicker set" (yes that's a 'My cousin Vinny' reference...lol) but I literally found myself about 5 feet from the screen just to read the tutorials. So, I guess when you hear about how this is a mind altering game (Metacritc had this at 94 when I bought it which was the best rated game of the year and a point or 2 behind some of the best games in years), I came away slightly disappointed. That said, it was an incredible journey and there's a ton to find. You have enormous beasts that are synonymous with the series and the story is exceptional. I found it not quite on the level of "The Last of Us", but it's riveting and there was something so satisfying as slaying a giant monster that no other game can come close to as far as battle, even as I battled my controller...lol. So, if you are a fan of the series I highly recommend it and if you like RPGs than the combination of the 2 will blow your mind as this is very much an Open World RPG. Though, a lot of areas are blocked off keeping you on a linear path as much as the story doesn't really have any branching at least in my experience. So, some RPG aspects are not there. Though, I just don't think it's as good as some of the better games like GTA V, Last of Us and the game I am currently playing, Uncharted 4. Please bare in mind that much like any form of art or media that these views are totally subjective. Though, it's definitely a very good game and that's why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars.

After kratos killed all the greek gods he's now moving to the Norse side of the world to try to live a quiet life with his new family. After his wife passes away she requests to have her ashes spread on the highest mountain. Before this happens a mysterious man arrives demanding you to open your door and let him in. From here your story starts. Awesome new refined fighting, with an over the shoulder view similar to gears of War or uncharted. You use your leviathan axe which can be customized to defeat your opponents. It works very similar to Thor's hammer when thrown and can be called back with a satisfying light rumble from your control when the axe hits your hand. Awesome story, awesome combat and great boss battles. A ton to collect and explore in this semi open world game. Just buy it and play it!!!!

God of War will forever hold a special place in my collection and is at the forefront of my favorite games to play. Its story is so mysterious yet familiar. The action is second to none. I complete blast to play! You MUST buy!!

This is a must have if you have a PS4. The story and graphics are amazing and as always, the controls are buttery smooth. Added benefit, if you have the PS4 Pro, you'll get enhanced graphics from the game.

This game is by far one of the best that I've played in several months. It has action, story, exploration, and some of the best colors and visuals I've experienced to date. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes action RPGs.

It's a really good continuation for the God of War series. I wish I could say a lot more, but I have not finished this game at this date. It takes up so much space in your console's Hard Drive, that I had to delete other games in order to play this. I love the open world concept, a good story, tight controls, and it's just a great game to have.

It's the greatest game ever made! Kratos the god of war is back & he's better than ever. If there is only one game you get this year, I'm telling you right now get this game, you won't be disappointed. When I first seen the video at E3 that Kratos story wasn't going to be Greek Mythology, but would be part of Norse Mythology, I didn't think I'd like it. It wasn't that I didn't like the stories of the Norse because I think they're awesome. What it came down to is nobody likes change, & if it isn't broke don't try to fix it. Everyone who has played any of the old god of war games knows that it wasn't broke. Well when I played it for the first time I forgot all about my worries. This is the greatest one player game that I have ever played, & that's saying alot but it's true.

I’ll keep this short, I’ve always been a fan of the God of War series. However, this game took the franchise to a different level. It has it all, the story, the action and gore, voice acting, and the graphics look really good.

Amazing game with excellent graphics and story telling.From the beautiful music to the wonderful graphics and the action packed thrilling adventure story where you get to see kratos as a father and trying to bond with his son.I love everything about this game but the story really was something special. Kratos started off as a Vengeful, Aggressive and frankly quite a Unapproachable person in the original games, but in this one he seemed to let go of his past and grow Wise and Determined and Passionate to make sure that his Son didn't turn out like him. And the pacing throughout this game was beautiful and well told. Masterpiece- 10/10

This is "God of War" taken to a whole other level! Story driven with jaw dropping graphics, rpg elements, and bone-crunching combat that just "feels" right. My highest recommendation for a PS4 game, and an instant classic!

Excellent graphics, gripping story and the controls are simple and easy too learn and grasp. If you like adventure games with photo realistic images and a heartfelt storyline, you will love this game!

This is the more mature version of Kratos who's having to deal with the death of his wife, how to raise a child, and fulfill a final wish. The amount of time spent on development of the game shows as everything is so beautiful to look at on 1080 and 4k TVs. Without a doubt this is a true showcase of just how powerful the PS4 is, and just how beautiful games can look given the time and resources. The story itself is amazingly well done. The music is top notch. Combat is more melodic and rhythmic compared to its roots of mindless hack and slash. It focuses more on Kratos trying to be a father, a mentor to his son, than living purely on revenge. This take on Kratos is beyond welcomed as it shows he has grown past always letting his rage guide him.

I was one of the skeptics going into this game. I wasn't keen on the changes to combat, the homogenization into another open-world game, and what seemed to be clear imitation of The Last of Us. I'm glad to say that most of the worries I had were unfounded and God of War is a fantastic game. It's easily one of the best in the series if not the best, but it requires an open mind and willingness to accept change. There are some things I prefer about the previous entries, but there are many more that I prefer about this one. The story is compelling, a first for the series, the combat still remains serviceable (though not quite as button-mashingly fun as previous games), and the exploration is surprisingly interesting in a Metroidvania/Arkham way.

God of War takes a character that was hard to relate to in Kratos, and takes a fresh approach to the character. A new setting, a new pantheon, and a new dynamic for the series helps breathe life and depth into Kratos. This game is gorgeous, and fun to play. The combat has weight and is satisfying to execute, and the story is intriguing, and worth savoring. The game is meaty, with plenty of open areas and side activities to help broaden the experience, without feeling like filler. While having played the rest of the series has added benefits to understanding the tragic history of the character, this game also works as a fresh start for newcomers, and easily sits with Horizon, and Uncharted 4/The Lost Legacy as a top tier, must have PS4 game.

I love to play role playing games with great story lines and in depth gameplay. With God of War you will get both and you can also choose your own path. If you are like me and want to explore and get every little extra item that will help you along the way (you can) or you can cruise throw and try your skills with lesser gear but makes you feel like a god when you knock out more formidable foes (Will be very difficult though! so be ready to die a million times). So if you are a fan of Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted, Tomb Raider and or Assassins Creed this game will definitely blow you away. Great game with great gameplay and you will lose yourself in the story! I give it a 10 so far and I am not done with the game yet! Have FUN!!!

What a game! Simply incredible. The storyline and action truly draw you into the game. Wether or not you have played the previous GOW games you will enjoy this game. Be warned though... it can be very violent.

The first installment of God of War for PS4 is a perfect example of getting everything right. After playing and enjoying the first 3 games in the franchise, this is a definite improvement on a great idea. My wife, who is no fan of video games, will not let me play this one without her present to watch. She is completely engrossed by the storyline. Visually the game is so cinematic in nature it is like watching a movie. Not since The Last of Us have I felt such an emotional attachment to the characters in a game. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good story, Greek or Norse Mythology, open world gameplay or just a well done action game. You will not be disappointed!

Overall excellent game. Great Story, Gameplay, and Controls. Deep customization of weapons and armors to suit any play style. Fantastic voice acting from the main characters and supporting characters as well.
