This review is not a direct comparison to past God of War games, because this game is meant to be so much more. The developers have coated Kratos's newest adventure with a deep story that connects the player to the God of War in a very meaningful way. Even though it is a sequel, this game is a masterpiece of this generation that will be considered as one of the greats for many years to come by it's own merits. While the past titles made their own impact on the gaming industry, this one does the same at a higher level and for different reasons. It's truly a wonderful experience seeing how a developer is able to accomplish all of these things within one series. Can't wait to see which direction they take the next one.

I expected great action from God of War, and it delivers that handily. But I didn’t expect it to be a thrilling journey in which every aspect of it complements the others to form what is nothing short of a masterpiece. It’s a game in which Kratos, a previously one-note character, becomes a complex father, warrior, and monster, embattled both on the field and within his own heart about how to treat his son; one in which the world opens up and shifts, offering rewards in both gameplay and knowledge of its lore that I treasured with each accomplishment. The obvious care that went into crafting its world, characters, and gameplay delivers by far the most stirring and memorable game in the series.

Amazing game. Immensely immersive. I finished the whole main story line in 2 days. Just could not stop playing. Fighting mechanics are pretty flawless. Being able to throw your axe and use your hands while its doing damage or even freezing other npcs is awesome. There is tons of norse mythology to learn about on the journey. Intriguing Stories including many of the gods are constantly told. I found myself staying in the canoe a few times just to hear mimir (a god but i dont want to spoil) finish off a story. OVERALL its a must have. I stopped playing ps4 games in preference of pc due to sales, etc but this is the First time ive felt good about spensing a full $60 on any game since Skyrim. Buy it.

The best game i've ever played, what could you possibly want in a modern game? Graphics, gameplay, sound and music, content, a good challenge, a good story and narative and inovation. Usually a game can get one of those things right and the rest of it ok, or good at best, botw for example inovates, the graphics are beautiful artisticaly but not impressive in terms of technology and etc... But god of war, all of those things are made perfectly, absolutely perfect un every single aspect. It's already impressive that the game does all of that at the same time, imagine doing that this good; it's unbelievable, it's mindblowingly good. This game literaly sets a new level for AAA games for the whole industry.

I wasn't the biggest fan of older god of war games but this is a totally different beast. The story is so much bigger than before takes you on a huge emotional journey. The combat is very different but different is good. The leviathan axe is a brutal close quarters weapon that you can also throw which feels so satisfying. Exploration is very prevalent but always optional and non Intrusive. The rpg elements are deep and reward experimentation to find just the right abilities for your play style. I played this game on a 4k t.v. with a ps4pro and high end headphones so i was constantly floored by the visuals and sound design. This game is one of the greats and everybody should give it a try.

I'm using a PS4 Pro on an LG 75" 4k TV. Visually, this game is amazing. The level of detail is just stunning. I'm only a little ways into it and the story is really good so far. The various puzzles require a little skill and thought so far, they seem to be ramping up as I go. Gameplay definitely deviates from previous GoW titles, it's taken the button mashing and refined it. You can still just button mash if you like but now theres the ability to vary your attacks and mix things up more. Gear customizing options like no previous GoW game had. Definitely dips into the RPG pool a little in that respect, in my opinion a nice improvement from the prior system. Overall great game.

Very good looking game. Smooth controls. I like the shift to Norse mythology. The game was a bit longer than I thought it would be, so that was a welcomed surprise, Good and challenging game.

Good story and gameplay that is challenging enough, but not too challenging. A good variance from the prior God of War games, with some alternatives aside from the main quest, which is nice.

There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said - God of War deserves every bit of the praise it has gotten. I've been a fan of the series since the first game until now. This game marks a huge departure from the tried and true model of the past, and its for the better. Epic scale, awesome graphics, a gripping & emotional story, combat that never gets boring, moments that you will remember for the rest of your gaming life. As a testament to how good this game is - my wife sat and watched me play through the entire story. I started a new play through the moment after I got the Platinum trophy. Do yourself a favor and play this game if you haven't already!

Insane graphics - check. Excellent story - check. Action packed - check. Best god of war yet; wasn’t sure how I’d feel about the Norse vs Greek Gods change, but it was all very well done.

This is hands down the best GoW game and the best PS4 game. You will be totally immersed in this story, action, and setting of this game from the start. Kratos is back and better than ever.

Fun fact: I've played and beaten every single previous God of War game and this one ranks as the BEST. Amazing controls, story, dialogue, graphics, level structure...EVERYTHING!

God of War is the most visually stunning game that I've ever played. The visuals rival that of movies, and the story surpasses many films as well. The story of Kratos and Atreus is wonderful and moving as it shows a father and son's relationship shift as events in the world affect them in various ways. The visuals of the game made me a believer in HDR, as I had bought an HDR TV a few weeks prior to God of War. Once I started God of War, within five minutes, I was in awe of the HDR and the incredible visual effects of the game. It was my game of the yer for 2018 overall, and it is one of the best games of the generation in my opinion.

A classic game for the PS4. Definitely a must have in your collection and obviously a must play. Great story, graphics and controls

Another fantastic PS4 exclusive, this game truly is a site to behold. It's single camera take is a true innovation for storytelling in games and really helps immerse you the story. There is a very heartfelt story to be had here, and it's wrapped in a richly realized world that brings the mythical beings of Norse mythology to life. On top of all that the game is absolutely stunning to look at and really shines on the PS4 Pro. The combat can be quite challenging at times and is not for the feint of heart. Definitely worth checking out if your looking for a great story or a challenging action game.

This final game in the God of War series adds a lot to the formula, that may throw off veterans, but is still great. Visually the game has never been better and has a lot of great cut scenes. The story is also really good and has Cratos leading his son through this mythology filled world. While you don't have to play any of the prior games to have fun with this game, they are well worth dusting off a PS2 or PS3 to play. Hopefully one day we get remasters of those games on either PS4 or PS5, but that could just be wishful thinking on my part.

This game is as close you get to oscar winning movie. Excellent gameplay and combat. Intriguing story. And action from start to finish. Ita an instant classic and worth the buy

The original God of War on the PS2 was great, and each installment has added it’s own touch to the series. This game revamped the gameplay and started an all new stroy with new mechanics and characters. The open world like concept, the ability to control the camera angle, and the costumizable options in this game have helped to bring new life to this series. I recomend it to any God of War fan or anyone new to the series. No prior knowledge of the series is required, although it does give you more of a background into Kratos if you have played past games, this game will bring you up to speed if you are new to God of War.
